Nerf Toys - The Gift of Guns

Updated on June 6, 2014

Should You Arm Your Children for Christmas?

This lens discusses the latest Christmas controversy when it comes to the perfect gift item for kids this year - should you go un-armed or armed?

If you are shopping for a gift for a male or female aged eight to twenty eight then we have some cool gift suggestions and some common pitfalls to avoid.

Read on as we compare un-armed vests and highly armed Nerf alternatives to find the best gifts this holiday season. For every Amazon sale from this lens Squidoo will donate $1 to charity!

The Un-Armed Option - Perhaps a sharp looking wooly vest?

Uncomfortable Argyle Vest

When choosing the perfect gift one must first avoid the tempting impulse to simply purchase the ugliest vest possible. That may be a fun and embarrassing gift idea but sweaters without arms just don't make sense. Im not sure what was going on in the olden days but modern young men rarely seem to find themselves with hot arms and a cold body. For these reasons we feel the vest has become obsolete and we can not recommend this gift without arms.

The Armed Option - Nerf Guns! - Choosing the right weapon for your children.

If you want to give your kids a head start in life we recommend arming them early with sufficient foam firepower to get them through their formative years of combat readyness.

A perfect first gun for a boy is the Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Dart Blaster. With 6 foam darts, a quick-reload ammo clip and electronic targeting light plus five re-configurable parts this gun is packed with features!

The shoulder stock to steadies your shot and stores an extra clip of ammo (sold separately).

What's Christmas without Firepower? - Show your love with this maxed out Nerf machine gun.

Don't let your little brats be out gunned by that smarty pants from down the street!Make sure your kids have the maximum Nerf firepower available this Christmas with this N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35 Dart Blaster and they will rule the neighborhood!

TJ S: Aqua-Net was my propellant of cchoie, but I learned the very-nearly-hard-way of the difference between a conflagration and a deflagration when a PVC schedule 80 foomp' tank on a potato gun reached critical failure due to heat stress. The addition of some secret ingredients' of my own choosing to the tank to, uh, ensure thorough oxidation of the fuel probably didn't help.

This was nice to read, but in my opinion a gun is not really a toy ay least until a certain age.

Yes, I am a Nerf fan. Yes, toy guns are appropriate gifts for children. When did they not become appropriate? With them you can shoot nosy do-gooders who say kids shouldn't have guns! I'm even in favor of BB guns for certain kids of appropriate responsible ages. So there!

Very clever! Arms vs. no arms. Awesome lens! My parents finally figured out it's not smart to get a Nerf gun for my brother without getting me one too!

A guy at work has the Vulcan Dart Blaster. It is occasionally used to get the attention of someone wearing headphones. The only problem is that each time it is used, fewer darts seem to come back. I think there are only 3 now...

I left Nerf guns off a lens on Christmas toys because I was really uncomfortable with how realistic they look. But my kids are 2 and 4. I'm fully aware that that I'll get over it when they're a few years older (and probably join in ...).

Haha, I love it! I wish I could get these for my kids, but they always end up eating the ammo. I think it'd be fun to have nerf gun fights with them... Oh, and nerf balls don't do well here either lol
