Segway Mini Pro – The Evolution of the Hoverboard

Updated on February 17, 2020
5 stars from 1 rating of Segway miniPRO

The miniPro is a hands-free, two-wheel self-balancing personal transporter. This device seems to be the most advanced and safe self-balancing device to use. An electric scooter that sometimes can replace even a car is an adult transportation device, but it's also much more expensive than the popular hoverboard. Is it worth it? Do you need to have this one?

Segway Mini Pro – Smart Self Balancing Personal Transporter with Mobile App Control

Segway miniPro is notably larger than any hoverboard, though weights 28 pounds, which is a light weight for a personal transporter. Riding on your usual hoverboard, you are steering with your feet, but this time you have the knee control bar which allows you to steer more easily and maneuver more effectively. It provides an innovative steering precision, so it's easier to ride than any self-balancing hoverboard.

MiniPro arrives in two parts. In the box, you receive the wheeled platform and the steering bar, which you have to attach to this "mainframe". The height of the steering bar can be adjusted so the bar meets the inside of your knees. Also, there's a lift guide bar that slides up out of the steering bar, so you won't have to carry it when you don't have the opportunity to ride - you can drag it with just one finger (by the way, there's one more way you can move the device: using the mobile app which we will discuss later). The body of the Segway miniPro has a power button, and the indicator lights: for Bluetooth connection, battery level, lock and one that will indicate if you're going very fast.

Before you start to ride on your new Segway miniPro, it's highly recommended that you install the app on your phone (available for IOS and Android) and connect it via Bluetooth with the device. When Bluetooth is enabled but not connected to a smartphone, the Bluetooth icon will blink, and will glow steadily when connected. The first time you run the app, it immediately takes you through the short safety tutorial. There's no way you can skip this, so it will be better if you read all the information the manufacturer wants you to know. You will find it's pretty useful, as the tutorial warns you how dangerous the inappropriate riding can be, gives you some advice on how to take small bumps (don't ride too fast or very slow), and some other, even more obvious advice. So don't underestimate this riding tutorial. If you don't install the app and are going to ride, be ready the Segway will beep you annoyingly until you run the app. And even if you've done all this, the miniPro will keep you to a max speed of 4.3 mph(approximately 7 km/h), not 10 mph (16 km/h) as it's indicated in the instruction. But when you will pass the learning mode, you will be able to ride at any speed you want up to 10 mph.

Power on the Ninebot by pressing the on/off button on the device and the miniPro will start balancing itself. Be sure you step on from the BACK of the board one foot at a time. Bend your knees slightly, lean body forward and backward to control the direction of movement. To turn, move your legs left or right against the steering bar. Do not guide upstairs, over large and uneven surfaces or over other obstacles! Steer it around or carry over obstacles.

The miniPro will automatically power off when idle for 10 minutes or when laid down horizontally for more than 30 seconds. Keep in mind that when the battery is nearly empty, the power level icon blinks, when less than 30%, miniPro will gradually reduce the maximum speed limit, and when less than 10%, speed will be limited approximately to 4 mph (7 km/h).

No matter where you're going to use the personal transporter, outdoors or indoors, due to the dual-motor engine, it can handle different road conditions and you will be safe. The maximum climbing angle is 15°. The frame is constructed of magnesium alloy, which is flexible and provides higher shock absorption performance than aluminum alloy, which is used for hoverboards. Also, the frame is made of the material corrosion-resistant. The 3.5-inch chassis and 10.5-inch pneumatic air-filled tires with military-grade shock absorption capability allows you to ride all the time (up to 14 miles on a single charge, and it takes only 4 hours to recharge the device from 0 to 100%) smoothly, without bumps and vibrations even if there're small rocks or uneven pavement.

Automatic headlights and lights on the other side of the device make you visible to others, and, what's more important, light your way.

The free mobile app you have to connect via Bluetooth to unlock the short riding tutorial has much more features than you can think of. Want to customize the headlights? Choose from more than 16 million color variations! This free app allows you to adjust light colors. It lets you see your speed in real time (and also control it), direction, battery life, and the Ninebot's temperature. It will alert you if you are riding too fast or make some movements in an unsafe manner. You can remote-control your Segway miniPro just using the smartphone app, steering with a virtual joystick! Of course, no one can ride the Ninebot when it's on the mode. And one of the most important features is a theft lock (an anti-theft alarm lock). Lock the device using the app when you need to leave it; If someone attempts to move it while it's in locked mode, your phone will vibrate and the miniPro will sound an alarm.

The Segway miniPro is the first personal transporter, of course, before any Segway hoverboard, to be tested and meet high standards of fire and electrical safety established by Underwriters Laboratories (UL 2272 Certified). That means that it's safe to use and won't explode. You can find the holographic UL sticker on the device.

Segway miniPro is considered to be an adult transportation device. The rider is required to be at least 16 years old, and applicable weight is up to 220 lbs! MiniPro is a lightweight and portable transportation device, but also it will cost you much more than any hoverboard. Segway is a safe brand, so this is the best choice you can make choosing between others and this one.

Ride carefully and safely!

The Segway miniPRO is available in both white and black.
