Perfect Polly Pet Fake Parakeet

Updated on August 29, 2012

This is Real: "Perfect Polly" Singing Faux Parakeet

Perfect Polly the singing parakeet is a fake bird marketed as a "pet" for those who don't want to care for a real, live bird. Perfect Polly looks real bird (from a distance), chirps, sings. moves and is life-size. When the Perfect Polly informercial was released, many had a hard time believing that it wasn't a joke. See the Perfect Polly commercial below. Because of the popularity of the fake bird informercial, I'll go ahead and predict that someone will be getting Perfect Polly as a gag-gift.

Perfect Polly Info

The Perfect Polly parakeet toy would be interesting enough for a small child. However, motion-sensored fake parakeet is marketed as an alternative to having a real pet and they claim it is a "lifelike bird that gives the joy of a pet without the work!" If you watch the informercial, you'll see adults appear to be fascinated with fake bird, more than the kids.

Perfect Polly comes in different colors and comes with a perch on PerfectPolly.com.

Oh please, do share!

I bought this for my brother and wife as a joke to fill their empty bird cage and it had become the life of all their parties. people love it and since it sits close to the bar it appears to fusd at anyone wanting s drink. What a riot. Anyone that thinks it is silly should take a chill pill and lighten up!

A companion for a real parakeet? The poor thing will die of fright when it thinks your putting a killer robot in the cage.

C'mon, that live parakeet wasn't fooled, just puzzled. How many of you bought one?

@anonymous: YES, that is exactly what I am thinking. I'm going to get one for my mom 87 with Alzheimer's. Thank you for your comment. I was beginning to get discouraged with the other negative comments!

Are you Kidding me. a FAKE bird. i guess it would be ok for those who live in fantasyland, in gingerbread houses. otherwise you folks need a reality check. from the looks of it, some of you must have went to fake schools also. people dont grow stupid, they are born that way. sadly some never recover from it

What a bunch of horse shit (real feces from an actual horse, mind you). A fake friggin bird for a "pet!" What have we come to, a "virtual bird?" My heart goes out to anyone who would even consider this crap; obviously they are in need of counseling!.

We were thinking of getting one for our real parakeet. He's fallen in love with the gerbil in the next cage and keeps climbing on the gerbil cage to get to her (the gerbil is a she). We are afraid it could come to ill end if the gerbil has less than romantic intentions and bites the parakeet's feet. Perfect Polly could rechannel the parakeet's affections in a (relatively) healthier direction. Plastic, true, but at least the same species. Heck, Barbie started as a German sex doll.

The only reason I would want one is to keep my indoor cat entertained, but I'm wondering if he'd know the difference. He used to like watching the ones at the feeder outside of our porch until the apartment manager made us take it down. Will try to find one at a store somewhere, so I'll be able to return it easily if I need to.

@anonymous: Nothing bespeaks love more than giving someone a fucking plastic bird! Dementia must run in your family.

@anonymous: I agree with you. When my Grandmother was still with us the only thing that made her come back was my real parakeet Pookie. She would smile, laugh and try to get him up on her finger when he would crawl up her arm.

Actually, I was planning to get one for my elderly mom who has advanced dementia. She believes dolls are real, which is common among the demented, so Polly would be believable to her. I'm going to give the other bird to the assisted living facility that provides day care for her. The bird's singing will provide comfort and hopefully joy to these poor souls.
