According to General Mills, the Pillsbury Doughboy was born in Chicago. He was the brainchild of Rudy Perz of the Leo Burnett advertising agency. The idea was that Poppin' Fresh popped out of one of Pillsbury's refrigerated dough cans, and his name represented freshness and quality. Everyone loved the squishy little helper right away.

Paul Frees of Boris in "Rocky and Bullwinkle" was the first voice of Poppin'. After him came Jeff Bergman, and today, it is JoBe Cerny.

In terms of family, Poppin' Fresh is happily married to Poppie Fresh (though perhaps at one point, they were only boyfriend and girlfriend). That have two children, a son named Popper and a daughter named Bun Bun. In addition, the family has two pets. Of course, there is a dog, who is named Flapjack, and a cat named Biscuit. It is also said that Grandmommer and Grandpopper also visit the family. Keep your eyes peeled for collectibles with the rest of the family. There are very few of them but just as adorable!

As of 1998, the Doughboy routinely received some 200 fan letters a week and thousands of requests for autographs. Though you won't be able to find those today, you can find a lot of other great collectibles. And many of them giggle, too.

I have a store display cooler that is about 3 ft tall. It has the Doughboy on the front of it at knee level so, as you bend into the cooler to get an item your knee hits his belly and he giggles. Any idea what this is worth or anyone interested in buying?

Just bought a vintage salt and pepper shaker of Poppin Fresh and Poppy at an antique store in Cambria, CA. My husband absolutely loves "Doughboy" so I bought this for him for our 30th wedding anniversary next month. We will be celebrating our anniversary traveling all over in Northern California, including Monterey, San Franicisco, Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. We'll be spending a full day at Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Geyersville towards the end of our vacation. They have an amazing pool and you can reserve a cabine for the day. What's better than sipping wine at a beautiful pool latter spring? We'll end the day dining in their restaurant and I have made arrangements for them to bring out an anniversary/wedding cake for dessert with Poppin Fresh and Poppy as the cake topper. Our daughter also works at the winery so needless to say...we'll get VIP treatment. I'm sure I'll get more than a "giggle" out of him for this!!!

I attended an estate sale for a Pillsbury marketing rep today, no joke. I've never owned any Pillsbury collectables before. I now have over 50 of the small rubber Poppin' Freash doughboys, all brand new dated 1971 and individually sealed in plastic. I have two brand new 48" Poppin' Fresh plush displays in their original boxes with displays, and multiple other items. If anyone is interested in some or all of this, please post a response here or contact me. Thanks!

OK. I only have one Pillsbury Doughboy. It came with a can of biscuits I purchased about 20+ years ago. I don't know if it is a collectible or not, but it's a little doll.
