Rise of Atlantis (puzzle game) overview and review

Updated on March 13, 2012

Rise of Atlantis is a good game for people of all ages. This game is usually free on the internet and the full version can be bought for a small fee. Those that like puzzles would enjoy this game immensely, it would be fun for at least several hours of continuous game play. This hub is an overview and review of the game, Rise of Atlantis. Hope you enjoy it.

What is it and how to play? The game is divided up into small sections in which you want to get all the treasure pieces in each level. As you pass each level, it gets more challenging but increasingly fun. You will have to beat all levels within a set time. The treasure pieces start at near the top. You have to match at least 3 of the same kind of pieces to make them disappear and gradually move the wanted treasure pieces down to the very bottom. Once you have moved all the pieces in that level to the bottom, you will successfully pass that level. After you have gathered all the pieces for a particular treasure, the game will show you what the treasure is and give you a sense of accomplishment. The more difficult levels included locked pieces in which you have to first unlock them before you can move them around. Sometimes, the only way to get through a level on time is to use power ups.

What are the power ups in the the game and how to utilize them? There were lots of power ups in the game that you can gain to help you pass each level. Honestly, some levels would be impossible if no power ups were used. Due to the time limit, you will have to train your eyes to spot matches quickly to beat the levels. One of the most commonly used power ups is called power of the sun. You will have to match at least 4 pieces of the same color to build up power. When you get to a certain point, sun's powers are all build up and ready for use. The sun's powers will destroy some random pieces in the game and also the piece directly below each treasure piece. It comes in very handy in difficult situations. In addition to sun's powers, you get four additional power ups to make certain difficult levels somewhat manageable. These are bombs (destroy a selected area), time extension, lightening strike (destroy a selected area) and free switch. These power ups are earned in selected level and you will have to move them to the very bottom before you pass that particular level.

How are the graphics? The graphics are decent for this kind of puzzle game. It is a 2 dimensional playing field. Since I only played the free version, it is small and somewhat difficult on the eyes. I think the premium version allows you to play the game full screen. That is very important because it is much better when everything is big and easy to see.

Who is it for and who will enjoy this game the most? Although the game is geared toward everyone. I have a feeling that women and older people will enjoy it more. Younger men and women like to play action oriented games where the graphics are very pleasing to the eye. Older people enjoy games that are slightly slower paced. This game is very exciting and good for those that enjoy puzzles. I would recommended for everyone to first try the free version.
