Skeletor - Masters of the Universe

Updated on December 8, 2012

Skeletor (formerly known as Keldor)

Skeletor, formerly a man known only as Keldor, is the arch-nemesis of He-Man in the Masters of the Universe continuity. Skeletor's primary motivation is to conquer Castle Grayskull so he can learn its ancient secrets, thereby becoming even more powerful which would enable him to conquer and rule Eternia.

Read on as we explore the character of Skeletor, his origins and his former life as Keldor, his evil henchmen including Beastman, Evil Lyn, Two-Badd, Stinkor, Mer-Man, Tri-Klops, his evil steed Panthor, and much, much more in the MOTU universe. And of course, we'll examine the epic struggle between He-Man vs. Skeletor.

By the Power of Greyskull!

Skeletor - Evil Overlord

Skeletor - Would-Be Ruler Of Eternia

Skeletor is the main villain in the Masters of the Universe franchise and the arch-enemy of He-Man, defender of Castle Grayskull. Skeletor was once a man named Keldor. As fans learned in the 2002 cartoon series, Keldor, during a heated battle with King Randor, had a vial of acid thrown across his face that left him horribly disfigured, hence the skeleton-like appearance of his face (and his namesake "Skeletor").

Skeletor is depicted as a muscular blue human wearing a dark purple hood over his skull. Skeletor seeks to become ruler of all of Eternia, and critical in this goal is his quest to conquer Castle Grayskull. If Skeletor learns Grayskull's arcane secrets, he could become supremely powerful and perhaps unstoppable. He-Man and his allies fight valiantly and vigilantly to prevent this from ever coming to be.

Skeletor's Henchmen

Skeletor's henchman

Skeletor has many evil henchmen in his Evil Warriors, including but not limited to:

* Beastman -- Beastman is the savage right-hand man of Skeletor. He has control over wild creatures and enormous brute strength.

* Clawful -- Clawful is a hybrid between a man and a crab or lobster, with large, sharp claws that can crush the life out of his opponents. Clawful's right claw is extra large and thus achieves an extra-deadly grip.

* Evil-Lyn -- Evil-Lyn is the only female member of Skeletor's Evil Warriors. She is an evil witch who aids Skeletor as his second-in-command with her powers of darkness. Evil-Lyn is vastly more intelligent than Skeletor's other minions and often comes much closer to defeating He-Man than anyone else. It has been suggested that she is more cunning than even Skeletor himself and is merely a member of his ranks while it suits her own purposes. She regularly uses the crystal ball atop her wand to aid in casting her magic.

* Trap Jaw -- Trap Jaw is a weapons expert and cyborg with a metal jaw which can bite through anything.

* Tri-Klops -- Tri-Klops is a 3-eyed hunter and swordsman who can see in any direction. His eyes, which are on a rotating visor around his head, each possess different abilities.

* Two-Bad -- Two-Bad is a character with two heads that constantly argue between themselves. Two-Bad is comprised of 2 warriors both of whom were originally bounty hunters.

* Stinkor -- Stinkor is an anthropomorphic skunk with magical control over his own stench.

Skeletor's Powers

Skeletor's abilities

Skeletor is an extremely powerful sorcerer with control over a vast range of dark magical powers. He possesses considerable scientific knowledge and has demonstrated skill in creating various machines and combat devices. Skeletor is also a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant as he has been able to hold his own against the mighty He-Man.

Skeletor is armed with a magical weapon called the Havoc Staff, a long pole crowned with a terrifying ram's skull. He can discharge bolts of mystic force from the head of the staff or use it to focus more powerful forms of magic. Skeletor is able to discharge powerful energy blasts from his own hands. In addition to his other deadly talents, Skeletor is a gifted swordsman. As a master of the occult arts, he is also privy to many secrets of the universe.

Skeletor's cat

Panthor is Skeletor's evil feline companion, a giant purple panther who serves as an evil counterpart to He-Man's Battle Cat. Panthor is portrayed as Skeletor's pet, always at his master's side and seen frequently lounging aside Skeletor's throne.

Skeletor rides his giant steed Panthor into battle. Panthor is a ferocious warrior equipped with battle armor, ferocious jaws and razor sharp claws.

Pretty sure the name Keldar was around back when the mini-comics came with the action figures back in the 80s.
