Skyrim Find Alftand Glacial Ruins

Updated on December 2, 2011

Skyrim Find Alftand Glacial Ruins

In Skyrim, the hero must find the Elder Scroll scholar Septimus Signus to find the location of the Elder Scroll. Septimus Signus in turn asks the hero to find the dwarven or dwemer Alftand Glacial Ruins near Winterhold. This will guide the hero in finding the dwarven Alftand Glacial Ruins and navigate the dangers and corridors of the dwemer Alftand Glacial Ruins to find the Alftand Animonculory.

Skyrim Finding the Elder Scroll Scholar Septimus Signus

In Skyrim, from Winterhold, head north to find Septimus Signus. The hero has to swim through some icy waters and walk across some glaciers to meet Septimus Signus. Spot a boat in the icy waters and the entrance to the Septimus Signus northern outpost is located to the right of the boat. Head downstairs and talk to Septimus Signus. Septimus Signus will tell the hero to find the nearby dwarven or dwemer ruins, otherwise known as Alftand Glacial Ruins. Septmius Signus wants the hero to enter the Alftand Glacial Ruins and find the entrance to Blackreach. Blackreach is the final location where the hero can find the Elder Scroll.

Skyrim Finding the Entrance to Alftand Glacial Ruins

In Skyrim, the entrance to the Alftand Glacier Ruins is quite easily found if the hero had explored the Saarthal Excavation Site. From the Saarthal Excavation Site, head southwest. Note that there are two similarly looking dwarven or dwemer structures in this glacial wasteland. The one at the top is the entrance to the Alftand Glacier Ruins. Mark the quest as active on the journal and use the compass and head upwards until the hero comes to a series of dwarven stuctures. Head down a series of stairs to find the entrance to Alftand Glacier Ruins.

Skyrim Navigate the Alftand Glacial Ruins

In Skyrim, navigating the Alftand Glacial Ruins is initially easy, as the path is relatively straightforward. Monsters that the hero encounter include the dwarven spider workers. These dwarven spider workers are more annoying rather than challenging. A few hacks from the follower and a few firebolts from the hero will end the dwarven spider workers threat. The hero will also encounter some Khajiits here. However, the most challenging monster is the dwarven shield. This mechanical conception surprises the hero by rolling quietly out of an inconspicuous golden pillar on the wall and then transforms into a warrior on wheels. Use the follower to tank the hero, and either attack with supplementary melee swipes or dual casting with fireballs and firebolts and the dwarven shield will be defeated.

The difficult part of navigating the Alftand Glacial Ruins comes when the hero hits an apparent dead end (after following the corridor in the Alftand Glacial Ruins through most of the way). The "dead end" in the Alftand Glacial Ruins has a series of pistons coming in and out of their chambers, and is quite easily recognized. The key here is to jump over all the pistons until a door is reached. The door leads to the Alftand Animonculory.
