Unique Educational Toys That Teach Spelling!
Make Spelling Fun for Kids by Making it a Game...
If you have school age kids then you know how difficult it can be to motivate kids to work on their writing, spelling, and phonics. Typically schools will send home weekly word lists that kids are supposed to write ten times each (or more) to help them learn by repetition but that can be incredibly boring for them and learning should be fun so that kids WANT to participate in the process. But how can you make spelling fun?
Lucky of for us parents there are lots of awesome toys on the market that can make spelling and writing fun! These toys can be used for teaching reading and writing to new learners, they can be used in conjuction with school spelling lists, and some are perfect for travel so that learning can take place anywhere.. even on vacation.
They help to develop abilities that required to learn how to read, such as word recognition and memory. Through fun repetition you will see your kids spelling prowess amaze you day after day and they will just think they are playing with a toy.
This lens has some of my favorite spelling toys, many of which I use in my own home with my kids. They are particularly great for homeschoolers! Enjoy!

Word Ring Toss - So MUCH fun!!

TAG Spellmaster - My Favorite!!
TAG's unique learning center provides a sure way to learn how to spell.. It consists of a spelling tray with an attached chalkboard, wood tiles with individual letters and spelling picture word cards. A word is spelled by copying the word card. Letter tiles are placed in the correct sequence in the spelling tray. The word is studied, then the doors are closed. The child writes out the word on the chalkboard from memory. Correctness is checked by lifting the doors and matching the letter tiles to the handwritten word. Checking answers by lifting the doors provides positive reinforcement when correct and negative reinforcement when incorrect. This is ideal for the teaching of spelling, especially when the child works alone and checks his or her own answers - mistakes then become a part of the learning process and are not perceived in a negative way.
