Toy Tops For Toddlers

Toddlers love to play with Spinning Toy Tops and have for a long, long time. I remember the top that my son played with and he is now 34 years old. My grandson also enjoyed playing with a top. I remember playing with tops when I was young so I know Spinning Toy Tops have been around for awhile.

There are sure more choices than there used to be and they are such fun to look at and play with. Toddlers love this simple little toy and it brings them hours of pleasure.

This is a fun one with beautiful bright colors - Toysmith Harmonic Rainbow Top

This one reminds me of the ones that we used to play with. I just don't know what attracts kids to these Spinning Toy Tops. Is it the colors, the motion or the sound. Maybe it is a combination of all three. The customer reviews are fun to read because most all of them were very satisfied with their purchase of this old fashioned toy. It amazes me that this toy can still be so popular when there is so much out there now competing with it but it stands alone. I think every child ought to have at least one top.Warning: Not intended for children under 3 - contains small parts that could be dangerous if swallowed.

The beautiful color patterns will keep a child entertained as they spin and spin and spin. They will love the sound too as will enjoy it for a long time. It is also a great toy to hold on to and to save for the next generation because this one will never go out of style.

Spinning Toy Tops Make Great Birthday Presents

ABC Top - Love the old fashioned graphics on this one

This is an old fashioned toy and the old looking graphics look great on it, don't they. I think the suction cups are a great addition to this toy so even though it hasn't change much at all over the years, it has been improved some.Warning: Small Parts and is not recommended for children under 3 years of age.

ABC Spinning Top

Schylling ABC Humming Top
Schylling ABC Humming Top

This one hums as it spins the way the old tops used to. The graphics remind me the toys of yesteryear although the design is much more modern. I can just imagine a toddler singing his ABC song while playing with this toy. I have twin toddler grandchildren and can't wait to give them their first top. I hope they enjoy it as much as I did as a child and I hope we can make some fun memories together involving this timeless toy! I will share with them the story of how I remember having one as a child. I feel sure they will be very impressed or maybe not but one day they might remember the fun time with their top and their grandma! I hope so.

Spinning Toy Tops Make Great Christmas Presents

Do You Think This One Will Spin Forever? - It is the Non Stop Top

I really enjoyed reading the customer comments about this one. People who have purchased it were amazed at the light show and its durability. I loved the story from the man who took his to work and people were coming in all day long to watch it spin.

Spinning Top with a Light Show

Can You Imagine Non-Stop Top - Green
Can You Imagine Non-Stop Top - Green

It also provides a light show and comes with 2 batteries. Sounds like a great one to me.Kids will love this light show. Now, you are not only stimulating a child with the colors, the motion, the sound but also light. That is a lot of stimulation. This one does require batteries. Two sets are included. This Non-Stop Top is recommended for 6 years and up so if you have a toddler you may want to wait a few years on this one. It is small measuring 35 inches in diameter.

Spinning Toy Tops Make Great Surprises

One that changes color as it spins - You will be as amazed as your child

I think a Spinning Toy Top that changes color would be TOPS! Watch it Spin - Watch it change colors - be fascinated! This would be a great way to reinforce naming of colors. Your child will not even realize that he or she is learning at the same time that they are playing.

It would be fun to sit on the floor with your child and talk about the colors before spinning. Then see if you both can distinguish the colors when they begin to change as it spins.

Spinning Toy Tops Are Great Gifts From Grandparents

Down on the Farm - If your child loves animals, your child will love this one

Learn the animals and then watch them spin. This one hums as it spins just like the old timey ones used to. Your child will love looking at the animals and calling them by name as the spin around. Learning to name the animals and the sounds they make will be fun for you and your toddler.

Old Toy from the Past Still Provides Entertainment.

Of course, I was the 3rd in Birth Order so it was probably a little rusty and bent by the time I got my turn to play with it. I do remember the sound it made which wasn't musical but a whirling or humming sound and I remember just being mesmerized by the motion of this wonderful little toy. We would pump it several times and then watch it spin. I am sure there are many lessons learned with this simple little toy. Lessons that will last a life time.

Watch this 1950s Spinning Toy Top Spin! - Thank you, Nate Lester, for showing off your Spinning Toy Top

Listen to the whirling noise it makes. Do you remember that sound?

I sure do remember that sound and it makes me smile all inside. Isn't it strange what we remember.

Old Timey Spinning Toy Top

Remembering My Old Toy Top

I can sure remember the sound of the plunger going down and the spinning. What a good memory. I think the Toy Top and the Jack-in-the-box were my two most favorite toys when I was a toddler. I loved to push down on the plunger and watch the top spin and all the beautiful colors. I remember trying to make out the design while it was spinning. I think it had animals on it. Actually, it looked a good bit like the old one pictured above. This one belongs to a friend of mine who collects old toys.

What Kind of Toys Do You Like To Give?

There are so many modern toys that usually run on batteries or electricity but I prefer the basic ones such as these tops. Other toys for toddlers that are excellent are stacking toys, Peg and Hammer Toy, balls, puzzles, and there are tons to choose from. I think there is a reason that these toys have remained popular over the years. It is because children love to play with them and they are great teaching tools for the toddler. The days of the battery operated toys will come soon enough when your toddler is a little older and starts to verbally ask for a certain toy that he or she has seen advertised on TV. Until then you may want to take advantage of this stage in your child's life to provide him or her with one of these old time basic toys for tots. You can make lots of fun memories together. After all these years I still get a wonderful feeling inside when I hear the humming of the spinning toy top and I am almost 70 years old. I am sure my parents did not have many options and I usually played with hand me downs but oh the memories are with me forever.

What do you think of Spinning Toy Tops? - Anyone can sign this guestbook and I hope you will. Thank you.

You and I share a sense of delight with spinning tops. As a child, I always wanted one of those big metal ones with the plunger, like the ones you show from the Fifties. For some time, I had quite a collection of spinning tops in our toy chest. Over the years, different children, and a few adults, have taken one or another home, at our suggestion, and the collection has dwindled, but we still have quite a few. Thanks for the memories!

A real traditional toy, but it's often the simplest things that bring the most pleasure!

Tops are one of those toys that has universal appeal. No matter how many gifts come out with flashing lights and loud noises, a top will always captivate kids.

I remember spinning toy tops, and loved the humming sound they would make. I had one at my house for my grandsons to play with and they loved it. They think they are too old for that now (9 and 5), but just last week both of them played with the small dreidel that I keep in the dining room in a container of wooden napkin rings. They love to spin it every time they come. There is a wonderful Jewish story called "The Golden Dreydl--a Klezmer 'Nutcracker' for Chanukah" by Ellen Kushner and the Shirim Klezmer Orchestrathat I heard on PBS radio one Hanukkah season, and I ordered it. You can listen to it if you want.
