Star Wars Legos and Minifigures (Minifigs) buying for kids

Updated on December 5, 2014

Trying to buy Star Wars LEGOS or minifigures?

I started this lens to share my experience in buying. These sets can be expensive. And sometimes your child just wants to have the figures. Sometimes they just need the spaceship without the figures.

So how can you get the best deal?

Just looking for the Minifigs?

Magnets are a cheaper alternative for the child that just wants to play with them.

Shop Lego online for Star Wars Lego Magnet Sets like the one pictured that cost $14.99.

(I believe if you have a Lego Store near you they sell these too)

(see my section on where to get coupons and rewards points to get them even cheaper)

I purchased these for my son. The figures detach from the magnet block and can be played with. The legs don't move, but the arms do. The head, body, arms, hair, and weapons all detach. This is a great alternative to spending loads of money on original sets or bidding on eBay if what you only want is something for your child to play with.

Just looking for the sets?

Maybe you just want the pieces to the ship without paying full price.

Several eBayers offer auctions on the sets without the minifigures. If you like assembling the crafts and don't need the figures to go with it, consider shopping on eBay for just the vessel.

They offer new out of the box pieces at a cheaper price then buying the full set at a retail store. See some eBay auctions below for examples.

Tip for reducing the cost of your purchase at Lego online

How I bought my Legos. The Credit Card used and Discount Coupon used.

First I want to say that I don't endorse any particular credit card. I also don't want to advise people to use them unless they pay them off every month. The only way to benefit from this is if you don't carry a credit card balance. That said here is how I bought my Legos cheaper

1) Went online to my Discover Card Account (which I pay off every month)

2) Went under the ShopDiscover tab.

3) Select Lego as a retailer in the drop down browser and click GO. Click Start Shopping and you will now be shopping through Discover Card. You will get %5 cashback on your purchases through Lego online.

Next apply the coupon code during check out.

1) In your favorite search engine search for "lego promo code" to see what the current codes are.

2) currently the code bscd29 gives $5 off on orders of $20 or more

Note: Your favorite credit card may offer similar deals. Also if you have Toys R Us rewards and their credit card, look for sales and buy through that method. Compare both before buying.

Lego lego lego! It's everywhere in our house... but what a great toy!! We spend xmas day every year building more and it's become a tradition in our house. The kids are already wondering what kits they'll get this xmas!! My best lego accessory is the catcher on the pipe of my vacuum cleaner that diverts dust and chunks before they reach the bag. It's supposed to extend bag life but it's saved MANY lego bits in it's time!! Another fun lens! Thank you!

When it comes to presents for nephews and nieces Lego is the easy answer.

LOVE LEGOs! The minifigs are a fun bunch these days - little LEGO fans seem to love them and they are sometimes a bit hard to track down.

My son wanted Legos for Christmas, so I was off to the toy store. Boy have they changed since the 70's! I bought a Star Wars set and walked out scratching my head. Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but I miss the old Legos. (Enjoy playing Star Wars Legos on the Play Station though!)

If you want to buy just minifigs, or any other kind of specific piece, the best place to do it is www.bricklink.com where thousands of lego fans sell their spare lego stuff.
