The Buchannon Legacy Chapter Three
Welcome to the Buchannon Legacy Challenge!
This is the third chapter (or if you will, the third day) of this challenge. If you've stumbled upon this page searching for information about The Sims 4 or the Legacy Challenge, I hope you'll stick around to see more of the legacy. All in all things are progressing well for this game file and I'm happy to report that the science career is now working after a patch and an update to my video card drivers. If you're having trouble, please be sure to update your drivers first. Your computer's graphics may not be able to handle the GTW expansion pack.
Just to recap for those who are following, in our last installment, Cordelia Buchannon discovered that she was expecting the first child of generation two! Before that, she had her first day in the Science career, planted a garden* and invented the Momentum Conserver.
* Something glitched and when I loaded the game for this chapter, the garden wasn't there. This is probably due to my having to restore the game thanks to crashes with the Science career. Now that this is sorted, it shouldn't be a problem again, and I did have Ishmael and Cordelia re-plant their garden.
For the second day in a row, Delia is up at the crack of dawn to get herself ready for work. She's exhausted, but the job calls for her, and there are things she has to do before she can head in to the Science Center. The first thing she does is grab some leftover garden salad. It's not typical morning fare, but it's filling and it will help to ensure that she doesn't have to eat more than once while she's at work for the day.
Whenever possible, have your sim eat a filling meal at the beginning of the day. The more filling the meal, the longer your sim will stay in a good mood.
Since Delia is pregnant, this won't last as long in order to account for her cravings, but I'm going to give it the best possible shot so that she doesn't have to purchase more than one meal at work.
Today, Delia feels better about her job and is more confident heading to work. The Science Center isn't nearly as intimidating as it was the previous day, and thanks to her promotion, she's at a higher level than the other lab technicians around her. Maybe today she'll move up the ladder of the science career even more than she did yesterday. She already has one of the two breakthroughs she needs for the day. One more and she'll have it nailed!
No game crashes! That's all I have to say about this one. The drive updated did the trick!
First up on the list of tasks for the day is for Cordelia to work on creating a synthetic food syrum. If successful, this syrum allows the user to fill their hunger bar by drinking the syrum. Creating a syrum can be a useful and effective way of getting breakthroughs, of moving up in the science career, and therefore earning money.
The syrums actually make me a bit nervous because as far as I can tell, there is a fail rate. So far none of my sims have ever failed at a syrum, but it makes me nervous knowing that I'm going to have to test it at some point!
Oh no! The Chemistry Lab blows up in Delia's face, leaving her a bit disgruntled and the Chemistry Lab broken. She's disappointed that she'll have to do more work to get the syrum created and to move on with her day, because this means that she's going to have to repair the lab.
Although Delia could move on to her next task and skip the Syrum, she decides to give it a shot anyway. Repairing the lab will get her some mechanical skill, and it's a useful skill to have in the future. She pulls out the tools and sets to work to fix the lab so that she can use it the next time she needs to create a syrum.
Fortunately, her efforts are successful! She's heard that sometimes these actions result in a sim catching on fire.
One more thing that makes me nervous. I can't count the number of sims I lost in previous versions of the game when they were repairing something and caught on fire! Fortunately she made it through this alive. Everything in the first generation of a legacy can be dangerous!
The mess left behind leaves Delia with a problem. She needs to clean it up one wa or another, but does she want to dig her hands into it while she's pregnant? Delia decides that she might wind up wanting to make sure that she has the parts when she needs to make another invention, so she goes ahead and digs through the debris to find some spare parts she can later use.
I generally find that this is worth it, though you'll compile parts very quickly if you always scavange!
Afterward, she gets back to work at the Chemistry Lab to do her best to produce the Synthetic Food Syrum. Delia doesn't want to admit to it, but she's hoping that she can drink it so that she can take care of her hunger. Already her stomach is beginning to rumble and she realizes that she's famished. Being pregnant means that you get hungry so quickly that it makes it difficult to work!
At this point it didn't occur to me that she might not be able to use the Synthetic Food Syrum while she was pregnant. Stupid move on my part.
The next task Delia is assigned is to analyze flora of fauna, so she pulls out one of her Bluebell flowers to analyze it on the machine. She doesn't learn anything new from it, but she does gain experience by practicing analysis immediately afterward, and she has her fourth breakthrough (the second of the day).
I haven't figured out what the point of this is, but I'll let you know if I figure something out. It can result in breakthroughs, so maybe that's why these types of tasks are assigned.
When she's done analyzing, the boss asks that Delia ask a co-worker for a crystal. She sets to work introducing herself to the very pretty Holly so that she can ask her for what she needs. Holly takes to Delia quite quickly and not only gives her the Crystal she asks for, but also an element. Delia walks away with increased friendship and two items to either analyze later or sell for extra cash.
She decides to keep these items in case they are needed for a project later on.
I always keep these because there's a reason that the sim is instructed to ask for them. Often they are needed for an upcoming invention or task. They do accumulate quickly though, and you can ask for them at any time. No sim has ever turned my sim down in giving these items over.
Holly moves pretty fast! Delia isn't altogether comfortable with the hugging, and Holly seems to have some slightly romantic inclinations toward Delia. Thankfully, Delia is able to explain that she's married and pregnant and that she'd prefer to be just friends.
Is this a "hug" or an embrace? I've put a poll down below because I'm honestly not sure. Holly had her eyes closed and looked very into it.
Because Delia is pregnant, she can't drink her own syrum, and so because it has to be tested, she asks Holly if she will test it. This completes two work tasks at the same time, which increases her work bar to the full length so that she can go home at any time, or continue to work on things and increase her performance for the day.
If you need promotions, don't go home. It does make a difference!
Unable to drink the syrum (which tested great for Holly, by the way!), Delia heads up to the kitchen for a sandwich lunch. She's starting to drag and getting very tired, but is determined to finish out the day so that she can get as much money as possible before the baby comes. They're going to want it once there's a little tyke running around!
Money's still tight, so this is the best way that I have to get her as much as possible. I could extend her shift by two hours and have her nap, but that doesn't feel right. Get your sim paid for every minute they can be at work!
The last thing to do before going home was for Delia to chat with the Invention Constructor. It's odd to talk to a robot, but if you get bored, perhaps that's the right thing to do!
I'm not sure what this does other than filling the social bar. I'm going to assume that this is just a way for the sim to get some easy work points, and I selected it rather than other options on her task list because it was relatively easy.
Back at home, Ishmael works on the garden by watering it and tending to it. He's on the way to getting those plants going when Delia comes home for her afternoon nap. Hopefully tonight she'll get to bed early enough to make sure she gets a good night's sleep and can be up in the morning in time to get everything done for work that day! Getting into a schedule has been harder than she anticipated.
I really am struggling with the schedule, presumably because she's pregnant. My luck with this game has been to have exhausted sims give birth to twins or triplets, so I'm eager to find out what's going to happen when she is able to go to work and leave them at home with Ishmael. He should be taking care of them without her, and hopefully this will mean she gets to sleep.
After her nap, Delia gets up to have (yet another) bowl of garden salad. It's boring to keep eating the same things, but she seems to enjoy it because the food is high quality in spite of being the first meal she ever cooked. It's filling and will get her through the night, since waking up from a nap and then eating was so exhausting that the only option she has is to go straight to sleep.
She seems to be especially tired. I'm really hoping it's not twins or triplets. (And no, I don't know yet -- I'm not playing ahead. I play a day and post it, and so on.)
After dinner, it's time to go to bed, and so Delia takes Ishmael with her!
Was it a hug or an embrace?
Will Delia be able to get a promotions on the next day? She's not there yet, so how much more is it going to take? Is she going to be able to get on a schedule while she's pregnant? What will she invent tomorrow? How is the garden fairing?

What is the Legacy Challenge?
The Legacy Challenge is a challenge for generational Sims games (Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims 4) challenging players to make it through ten generations while accumulating wealth and completing other tasks. This is not an easy challenge and it can be quite difficult to complete. Many players have failed at this challenge, but I'm determined to make it all the way through, sharing with you the whole time!
If you'd like to play a legacy, you'll need to have a copy of The Sims 4 (or previous generations 2 or 3). I'm enjoying TS4 and highly recommend it!
