The Pros and Cons of the Wii Mini: Product Review

Updated on April 26, 2014

Looking for a new game console for around $100? If so, then the Wii Mini might be just what you're looking for. It plays all the fun Wii games, but costs a fraction of what other new game systems are going for. It even comes with Mario Kart, so you can start playing on it right away. This game has always been a hit in my house.

Keeping in mind that Nintendo has discontinued making the original Wii, you can either opt for the Wii U or the Wii Mini. Let's take a closer look at the Wii Mini. I'll give you the pros and cons and then you decide if you would like one. Having kids, I know how important it is to have game systems, so hopefully this information will help.

The Pros and Cons of the Wii Mini

Let's start with the pros. The Wii Mini is a bit smaller than it's predecessor and weighs less. It's top loading making it easy to use. It plays all of the games that the Wii can play. The best selling point is the price. If you look at other game systems, you'll see they cost anywhere from $300-$600. In addition, the Mario Cart game that comes included is a $40 value.

The biggest con is that there is no internet capability, so if you're used to using a system to watch Netflix, play YouTube or online games, this system will not support it. It these are important to you, then you might want to consider the Wii U instead. In addition, there is no GameCube support, which may or may not be important to you.

Here's the bottom line, if you just want a system to play games on, then I would definitely buy this product. You can't beat the price. However, if internet compatibility is important, then I would upgrade to the Wii U.

Is the Wii Mini Worth It?

This updated system from the original Wii comes with two fun packed games: Super Mario Bros U and Super Luigi U for hours of gaming fun. This bundle is quite a good value when you consider what comes with it.

Video games are time consuming, but the same is true for standing in lines in stores where time passes much faster with a device like wii mini:) Thanks for the review!

@Namsak: The price is what makes this system so appealing.

I don't play games that often but this Wii Mini does interest me. No internet connectivity isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned. A game-only console like this would suit me fine - if I want internet I have other platforms for that and the price of the Wii Mini is very attractive.
