The Universe of Collectible Alien Figurines
Aliens Movie 1986
In 1979 when the first Alien movie was created by Ridley Scott and unleashed through cinemas world wide, I was only eleven years old and much too young back then to go and see it, but then in 1986 along came the sequel "" directed by James Cameron, and this one I did get to see, and have seen many times again and again, for it is simply an original masterpiece in sci fi and horror, and even to this present day science fiction and horror movies lack that magical formula that this movie posessess with it's wonderful mixture of action, adventure, science fiction and horror that electrifies the atmosphere of this remarkably entertaining work of cinematic genius, and I sure envy anyone who is about to watch it for the first time. I have always been and always will be a fan of the science fiction horror genre, and all thanks to this incredible film, which has also ignited a passion within me for collecting movie merchandise consisting of intricately designed and detailed collectible figurines. Aliens Colonial Marines
Corporal Dwayne Hicks
The United States Colonial Marines are the front line force in all major military combat operations, and after the first encounter between the marines and aliens on the planet LV-426 they suffered the injury and loss of both commanding officer and gunnery seargeant, which prompted the next marine in the chain of command to step up to the plate, and that marine would be "Corporal Dwayne Hicks" played by the extremely talented "Michael Biehn". Corporal Hicks wasn't the usual run of the mill, gung-ho, all guns blazing kind of soldier like the other members of his squad, but more of a character who, while not being too overly excited at being promoted to squadron leader, showed selflessness and great consideration to others around him, while working out the perilous problem of his current situation with a sort of quiet meditative intellect. Corporal Hicks was the only military personel among the remaining four survivours to have escaped with their lives from the alien conflict on the planet LV-426.
NECA (The National Entertainment Collectibles Association), who are one of the largest providers of wholesale licensed movie merchandise have created for the first time a re-launch of Aliens collectible figurines, which will be released on June 18, 2013 to celebrate the classic 1986 movie, and one of these remarkable and extremely detailed figurines is that of Corporal Dwayne Hicks, who stands seven inches in height with moving parts that contain over thirty points of articulation. Included with corporal hicks is the famous signature M41A pulse rifle weapon with shotgun, shoulder lamp, motion tracker and a minature hand held welder. The details, for me, is the most important feature of any collectible figurine and this one certainly does not disappoint, as not only the character of hicks has been captured in this sculpture, but the amazingly realistic resemblence to the actor Michael Biehn who played the part. It's almost as if they had shrunk Michael Biehn down and took a sample plaster mold of him.............Brilliant!
Private William Hudson
Game over man, game over! the famous words of Private William Hudson played by the brilliant Bill Paxton. Private hudson is the Colonial Marines squad technician and the "Ultimate Badass" joker in the pack, and when he is first introduced to us he comes across as somewhat overoptimistic and egotistical, particularly in relation to the capabilities and extreme firepower of which the colonial marines wield, but this brashness in attitude however soon takes a dramatic turn for the worst after a horrifying chain of events leading to almost all of hudson's squad being overun by the alien species, and either killed or taken to the alien hive to become hosts to spawn more of these deadly creatures, but before his final battle in the operations room within the colony complex, private hudson eventually regaines some self-control and finally gets his act together swiftly transforming into the ultimate "Badass" killing machine as he beckons the alien creatures on to come at him, thus giving them their first and final lesson in the true meaning of superior firepower (Rambo would surely have been very proud), but, alas poor hudson becomes overpowered by the alien creatures and pulled downward through the gratings in the floor never to be seen or heard off again, what a badass, what a hero, he will be forever remembered, and what better way to remember and immortalise such an impactful character than checking out the latest NECA Alien series one collectible figurine of private hudson designed with incredible attention to detail with a realistic similarity to the actor Bill Paxton who played the part, and complete from head to toe in colonial marine armour with his M41A pulse rifle locked and loaded, and ready for action once again to beckon on the alien scourge "Game on man, game on!"
The Aliens are dangerously lethal creatures that are devoid of any emotion or compassion and their primary function, much like that of a ravaging virus, is to multiply in numbers and expand their species destroying all other lifeforms in their wake. Their life cycle consists of four different stages ranging from an egg hatching parasite known as a "facehugger", from where it then develops into what is termed a "chestburster" and from this to a fully grown alien warrior or queen depending on circumstance, and all of this is spawned from one single queen that is capable of laying thousands of eggs. This cycle is also known to be compared to that of ants, where an entire colony can be spawned by a single queen. Once the facehugging parasite hatches from the egg it will quickly seek out another lifeform as a viable host, to which it will attache itself firmly to the face and proceed to impregnate the host, by laying an embryo in place for the third stage of the development, which results in a horrifying ordeal for the host, by where the creature forces its way out through the thoracic cavity (or chest cavity), hence the name chestburster, resulting in an excruciatingly agonising and painfull death. The final stage of the Alien cycle is the development into adulthood which evolves at a rapid pace of only a matter of a few hours. The fully matured Physique of the Alien comprises of a combination of dangerously lethal appendages such as a long ribbed tail almost like that of a fish spine with an arrow-shaped, razor sharp tip end, and an extended tube-shaped skull, which encapsulates a set of deadly inner jaws that can pierce through steel, by extending and retracting at a rapid speed from the mouth, leaving its prey little or no chance of survival.
As part of the Alien Series one collection, along with the Hicks and Hudson figurines, NECA have designed a new version of the Alien Warrior cast, which measures over nine inches in height with the flexible weapon-like tail and the infamous deadly inner jaw with sliding function. The Alien poses an effectively realistic look with outstanding brown highlights, and a wet-like glossy skeletal exterior with moveable parts of over thirty points of articulation.

Predator Movie 1987
After the 1986 movie Aliens and it's predecessor Alien, I had never imagined that any movies that came after that could generate the same level of excitement and captivate the imagination quite like they had done, but in 1987, one year after Aliens a whole new species of Alien had been created called the "Predator" and boy was I relishing the thought of taking another cinematic rollercoaster ride, and I can sure tell you that it was far from disappointing. The storyline had a certain similarity to the movie Aliens in that there was a rescue mission to be carried out by an elite special forces team much like the colonial marines, and that this time the conflict would take place in a Central American Jungle on earth rather than a colony complex on a distant planet, and this time instead of an army of Alien creatures, you had one big ugly Mother****** complete with high tech weaponary and deadly stealth technology, where the predators unique and unusual visual ability scanned for the bodyheat of its prey, this would later prove to be somewhat of an achilles heel for the creature. The Predator movie was directed by John McTiernan and features an all star cast led by the Hollywood action movie icon Arnold Schwarzenegger who plays the part of a tough special forces soldier called Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer. The idea for the design of the predator came from the late great Stan Winston and it is believed that on a flight, either to japan or fox studios in Los Angeles, he was seated next to James Cameron while creating concept sketches for the predator, and it was Cameron that had encouraged Winston to design the predators mouth with mandibles (those things that look like crabs legs) which was to become the predators iconic look. The Predator was an excellent movie and well worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with James Camerons Aliens, but Aliens, for me will always be the number one masterpiece in Science Fiction and Horror with predator most definitely being my second favourite.
Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer
Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer was the leader of a special forces elite fighting unit and Possessed highly perceptive and inventive skills. Shaefer was a quick thinking, battle hardened, no nonsense commander and was the only remaining survivor from his entire squad, after the encounter with the deadly predator. When Schaefer discovered that the predator could not see him, due to the fact that he was completely covered from head to toe in mud from a river embankment, after surviving a drop over a cliff into a river of rapids, and then over a waterfall, (phew) Schaefer then realised that it was in an infared spectrum that the creature was visualising, in order to seek out the body temperature of its prey, and once armed with this knowledge, Schaefer then knew he had discovered a weakness in the creature that he could exploit, by masking his own body heat with mud, this then would give him a much needed advantage later on in his confrontation with the creature. Schaefer was a soldier who was well refined in survival skills, and with only a knife and a few grenades, he put together a bow and arrow and spear with explosive tips, as well as setting a number of traps, which contributed greatly in his triumphant defeat of the predator.
In celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the original 1987 Predator film, NECA have designed a seven inch, exquisitely crafted and realistically detailed action figure of Major Dutch Schaefer complete with an M-16 rifle, Knife accessories and hand pistol with moving parts that feature Arnold Schwarzengger's trade mark mussles with over 20 points of articulation, and the indistinguishable likeness to Mr. Schwarzengger's facial features and Physique.
I suppose what makes the predator so fascinating is not just the fact of its fearsome and hideously frightening physical appearance, but that we have always believed in the assumption that if there is an alien race of beings out there, that they would be far more technologically advanced than us, and because of this, that they would have developed as a species and elevated above and beyond all forms of violence or primitive characteristics, but the predator race completely defies this assumption instead combining both advanced technology with a barbaric bloodlust for hunting and killing. The Predator is an elite stalker and hunter of many various lifeforms which pose a dangerous but challenging feat, and due to the predators nature, it takes great sport and entertainment from the thrill of the hunt to the final kill, which is a rite of passage for these creatures. When a predator has hunted and killed its prey, it then proceeds with the barbaric method of skinning and decapitating the remains of the carcass in order to transform it into a trophy. Predators will only engage in confrontation with other lifeforms if they are armed or pose a threat in any way, and they are known for a certain code of conduct where they will not harm smaller helpless lifeforms or those that carry offspring, or suffering an ailment. In comparison to humans, predators are known to stand about seven and half to eight feet in height and their tough physique gives them incredible strength and resistence to damage, which makes them extremely difficult to defeat. The NECA Predator series eight figurines are offically released on April 30, 2013.
Predator Action Figures
NECA have designed two new versions of the Dutch Shaefer figurine, as well as the predator in the eighth series. Both Dutch Shaefer's have the same specifications regarding height of seven inches, with twenty points of articulation. The jungle patrol Dutch as seen previously above in camoflage shirt and military vest wielding an M-16, and the jungle extraction Dutch represented as he appeared in an earlier stage of the predator movie, fully dressed in military jacket and vest complete with M-16 rifle, Machete, various knife accessories and holstered weapon.

Prometheus Movie 2012
Last year Ridely Scott released the film Prometheus and the big debate was in full throttle, as to whether this film was a prequel or not to his 1979 movie Alien, and of course some sources claimed that he did admit to it being a prequel, where others claimed that he said it was not a direct prequel in the sense that it was an original film that delved into its own philosophy and mythology, but that there would be elements present within the film that hinted to its audience that it was based in the same universe as Alien, but either way it gave us a very interesting back story into the origins of how these dangerously lethal creatures came into being. Like many other people I found this film to be thought provoking, as its main themes dealt with religious belief, death and immortality, as well as the discovery of a superior alien species known as the "Engineers" through the recurrent findings by archaeologists of a map of the stars with giant beings drawn on cave walls, which were connected to various generations of ancient tribes in different parts of the world. All in all it is a very intelligent movie and the onscreen set designs are awesome with some great action sequences and a very powerful storyline.

Prometheus David Action Figure
In the movie Prometheus the character David, played by Michael Fassbender, is a cybernetic android and as close to a human being that any android, or robot has ever been designed and upgraded to, in advanced technology. He is the eighth version of his kind and the first to be programmed with human emotions, which makes him indistinguishable from actual human beings. As davids character begins to unfold during the movie, we see him develop from being the ships caretaker, who interacts with the human crew and their mission with a sense of childlike curiosity, to developing into a more narcissistic behavioural pattern, as well as that of envy and uncertainty with a touch of devious comical sarcasm.
NECA's Prometheus Series 2 action figures includes the character of david which stands at a height of six and three quarter inches, with moving parts containg over 20 points of articulation, and includes two switchable heads, which amazingly bears the striking resemblance to the actor Michael Fassbender, and comes complete with an astronaut helmet that is easily applied or removed.
Prometheus Engineer Figure
NECA have released a new line of prometheus action figures of the alien Engineer, which are exquisitely designed with remarkable attention to detail and completely articulated. This set contains two figures each measuring eight and a half inches in height, with one engineer figure designed in a pressure suit and the other in a chair suit.
