Updated on October 26, 2014

Best Games for the Xbox 360

Here is my top 10 list of Xbox 360 games that I have played. The Xbox 360 has seen many top notch games over the years and with the next generation console that has recently come out there are sure to be many more.

The titles on this list are not because they are the most popular or mainstreamed games, but because I feel that these are some of the best games that were released for the Xbox 360.

I hope that if you have not yet played these games that you will give them a try.

Screen shots have been included under each game. Just click on the thumbnails to enlarge them. For further screen shots of these Xbox 360 games, click on the game case image.

Halo 3 - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Halo 3 was the first game that I bought and the main reason I purchased an Xbox 360. One of most anticipated games of the time, Halo 3 gives us a fulfilling conclusion to this epic trilogy while leaving you to know that there is more to come.

Fans of the Halo series will find that not much has changed aside from the major graphics overhaul and a new weapon or two, but none-the-less it is amazing game that Bungie has created and I consider it to be one of the top 10 Xbox 360 games of all time.

After playing Halo Reach I was very disappointed with it. Halo 3 still takes it place here

Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Oblivion Game of the Year edition presents one of the best rpgs of all time. Step inside the most richly detailed and vibrant game-world ever created. With a powerful combination of free-form game-play and unprecedented graphics, you can unravel the main quest at your own pace or explore the vast world and find your own challenges.

Also included in the Game of the Year edition are Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansion, adding new and unique quests and content to the already massive world of Oblivion. See why critics called Oblivion the Best Game of 2006.

This game made my top 10 list for many reasons, but the main one is because of the sheer scope of the game. I have over 140 hours invested into one character and doubt I have completed even half of the optional stuff that is available in this rpg.

This is one of the best Elder Scrolls games in my opinion.

This Xbox 360 game is one of my favorite role playing games of all times for any console. I am currently 200 hours into my third play-through and only have about 75% of the achievements unlocked. While this game is fun to play, it can also cause many frustrations and sleepless nights!

Gears of War 2 - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

I really enjoyed this Xbox 360 game. I played Gears of War 2 before I played the original Gears of War. This game is a squad based, third person tactical shooter.

Again you take control of Marcus Phoenix in an emotional story of of loss and retribution. Marcus is joined by several friends and fellow soldiers in his mission to once and for all rid the Earth of the mighty Locust Horde.

This time around you use enemies as shields, engage in chainsaw battles, and will discover new monsters, weapons and vehicles during an epic five chapter campaign that will leave you crying for Gears of War 3

Final Fantasy XIII - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Final Fantasy XIII starts off in a floating city called Cocoon. Soldiers are stuffing people into trains to lead them to their execution in a horrible event called "The Purge".

As some helpless people are being roughed up a bit too much by the soldiers, a mysterious young woman throws off her white-mage type cloak and proceeds to thoroughly whoop the soldiers into submission.

Unlike most titles in the Final Fantasy series, the game game did not revolve around one main character. Instead, the story is told from the perspective of each character and the party as a whole. During each chapter a little bit of each characters back story is told until you feel like you know them.

As usual, Square Enix has done an awesome job with their latest installment of the Final Fantasy series, only the second for the Xbox 360. The graphics in this game are amazing and the music is great! This is a top notch game.

I have loved the Final Fantasy titles since the NES original, but this game blew me away. This was an amazing Xbox 360 game that was well worth the wait.

Final Fantasy XIII: Platinum Hits
Final Fantasy XIII: Platinum Hits

Mass Effect 2 - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Mass Effect II is a direct sequel of the award winning game of the year, Mass Effect. You again take control of Commander Shepard in an epic role playing adventure to save the galaxy.

Several years have passed since the events of the original Mass Effect and Commander Shepard is hot on the trail of the Reapers, an evil robotic race of machines bent on destroying all organic life in the galaxy.

After some great opening cut-scenes in which the Normandy is destroyed, Shepard finds him/herself in a laboratory and is quickly informed of a mission that must be completed to help in the war against the reapers.

This mission is one that only Commander Shepard can complete and even the chance of his/her survival is slim at best.

Mass Effect 2 Platinum Hits
Mass Effect 2 Platinum Hits

Number 5 in my top 10 360 games list.

You get pick of the same classes that you had in the previous games with the added bonus of new and improved skills and attacks.

My favorite thing about this game was the ability to import your Shepard from Mass Effect into the Mass Effect II world. While it may not make a huge difference in game play, it was nice to see that some of the things I did before had consequences. The most obvious one would be if the counsel lived or died at the end of Mass Effect, but there were plenty of small things that become apparent throughout your game.

While this can be a stand alone game, I really suggest playing the original to get the idea of the story. I have not done a play-through yet without importing a previous Shepard, so I cannot say how it plays out.

I loved this Xbox 360 rpg!

- Recruit up to 13 different playable party members

- Every choice has a consequence and will carry over to Mass Effect III

- Over 100 optional side-quests

- Build and upgrade a new Normandy

- Cerberus is back!

- Bioware

- When you buy Xbox 360 games from Amazon you get free shipping

Alan is a successful best-selling author who is suffering from writers block. He is constantly having the same nightmare and his wife, Alice, is very concerned for her husbands health. With ulterior motives in mind, Alice plans a vacation to Bright Falls.

With the dark entity taking over Bright Falls and things quickly spiraling out of control, Alan must discover why he lost his memory, where it is his wife disappeared to and eventually confront and defeat an enemy shrouded by evil.

Alan Wake: Limited Edition -Xbox 360
Alan Wake: Limited Edition -Xbox 360

Number 4 in my top 10 360 games list.

As soon as I put this game into the disk-tray and turned on my Xbox 360, I felt as if I was transported into every single Steven King book ever written. The world is lush and beautiful but filled with danger around every corner.

Most of the game takes place during the night, so you constantly are using a flashlight to guide yourself around. I was not sure how well this would work out when I first started playing this game, but Alan Wake would not be the same psychological mind-thrill without it.

The storyline and game-play were simply amazing. The story is told from a horror book prospective. Like any good horror, there are evil enemies, poltergeist animated vehicles and chainsaw murderers! Get ready for a journey through the world of Alan Wake.

- Unique darkness based combat

- Destroy the shadows with flares, flare guns and flash-grenades.

- Find and use weapons such as a pistol, hunting rifle, and shotguns.

- Psychological mind-thrill will have you jumping on the edge of your seat.

- Remedy

Dragon Age Origins - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

From the creators of Mass Effect 2 and Knights of the Old Republic comes yet another amazing game where every choice you make has drastic consequences on the world around you. When you buy this Xbox 360 role playing game from Amazon, you get a free expansion pack with an extra downloadable character and additional quests.

Players begin Dragon Age Origins with one of six opening scenes depending on what race/class they choose at the start. After the initial scenes the main character becomes one of the last two Grey Wardens in the country.

Grey Wardens are charged with the duty of containing an invasion of cursed beings called "The Blight" and destroying the Arch Demon. (The enemies actually reminded me of the Orc Horde from The Lord of the Rings)

Dragon Age: Origins - Xbox 360
Dragon Age: Origins - Xbox 360

Number 3 in my top 10 360 games list.

Players will embark on an epic journey with danger lurking with each step.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2 - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of previous games in the Call of Duty franchise.

This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of game play modes including single player, multi-player and the co-op Special Ops Mode, Modern Warfare 2 is a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

number 2 top picked game for the Xbox 360.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 carries on the story of the original installment of Modern Warfare. You will play as different members of Task Force 141, including Roach and Soap MacTavish , while joined by other support members such as Ghost.

Your main objective over three acts and 18 missions is to stop Makarov, a war criminal plotting to start his own war.

With some of the best graphics a first-person-shooter has ever seen, a very addictive multi-player mode and even a Co-operative mode this time, CoD MW2 was easily one of the most anticipated first person shooters of all time.

- Gripping story conclusion to Call of Duty 4

- Online multi-player action with up to 18 players

- New real-world weapons

- Call in all new support to pummel you enemies into submission

Fable III - Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Fable 3 is an awesome game that has really made my year. Sort of a sequel to Fable II, players find themselves as a child of the old Hero from Fable 2. This child must become the next Hero of Albion to save the Kingdom from total annihilation.

The Hero's other child, and now king, Logan is mad with power and has become a tyrant. Only you can lead a revolt against your brother to save Albion, but many choices along the way will change the world around you.

Will your choices lead you to be the greatest ruler that Albion has ever known, or you will become the tyrant that Logan once was?

The choice is your!

Alright, I finally played Halo Reach and what to say about that game.... Wow what a disappointment that was for all the hype that game received.

      What does everyone else think?

Did Bungee make a great game or does it seem like seem like they are trying to pull one over on us releasing Halo 3 all over again?
