Top 10 Electric Cars For Kids

Updated on May 23, 2015

Electric Cars For Kids

Perhaps when you were young electric cars for kids were already around, but when I was growing up we had to pretend to drive cars by creating them out of stuff we had hanging around.

Some of these motorized kids cars are so realistic these days that they look like miniature adult cars and who knows could be that we will be seeing more and more adult cars becoming like these ride on kids cars as the push to go electric takes a stronger hold over society.

It is interesting to me how we have gone from electric cars that look like this to electric cars that have the look and feel of fossil fueled vehicles.

We will be looking at the top 10 electric cars for kids here. There are so many different styles from dune buggy types, to realistic smaller versions of expensive adult cars and we will also look at some fun electric cars for kids that are tractors, in John Deer Green of course.

Power Wheels Dora The Explorer Lil' Quad

Dora the Explora Lil Quad

This is a great little starter electric car for your kids even as young as one or two. It is highly rated for its price, (which is under $100). The negative comments are actually rather positive as they discuss the fact that the toy goes slow, and is too small for taller, older children.

For the little guys here is a more masculine version of the Quad. Again this is designed for the youngest of children because it goes slow and is small. Older children will not be able to use it.

Power Wheels Tough Talking Jeep Wrangler

Power Wheels Tough Talking Jeep Wrangler

This is the tough talking version not to be confused with the other two versions of Jeep Wrangler that Fisher Price makes. The Tough Talking Jeep, has two speeds 2.5mph and 5 mph, will handle two kids nicely and is big enough for 4-6 years olds to ride in comfort. (the weight limit is 130lbs) There are a few comments about traction mentioned in the reviews.

The Jeep goes together quickly with a screw driver. The decorations are stickers that will need to be attached. It does come complete with battery charger and battery - so no worries about having to purchase them separately.

Great fun for your 3-6 year old who loves to drive around the driveway or yard. A few problems reported on traction when it comes to hills, but a little push from behind usually solves the problem. This is a bigger quad, goes 2.5mph and 5mph which is plenty of speed for pre schoolers.

The colors are red and black (some think the black picture is blue, it is not). This quad has a pretty tight turning radius and the throttle is located on the right hand side.

Truckin up for some serious fun! This is a great step up electric kids car for those tykes moving up from the lil quads. It is big enough for 3-6 year old children and will take you about an hour to an hour and a half to assemble it. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is also designed for one child at a time to operate. If you are looking for a car that more than one child can ride in at a time, consider the Jeep Wranglers or the Ford Mustangs.

The race is on! The Power Wheels Ford Mustang seats two comfortably, gets five stars to joy on your kids face when they see it, and sports a real engine starting sound when the key is turned in the ignition. The down side to this is that the wheels could have more traction. I did see where one person put hex screw into Power Wheels to increase the traction and got good results. The vehicle goes 2.5mph and 5 mph and is designed for 3-6 year olds.

Kid Trax Mini Cooper 6V Ride-On Car

Kid Trax Mini Cooper

This 6V Kids trax mini cooper is a miniature version of the original mini cooper! I recently watched a movie, The Italian Job, that featured mini coopers as the getaway vehicles. Not your normal "escape" auto when you think high speed car chases in the movies right?

There were three mini coopers featured in this film, they were red, white and blue, ran full speed through a railway tunnel and out into the culverts in Los Angeles used for channeling rain water.

While your child isn't likely to be careening through traffic or water channels in real life with their Kids Trax Mini Cooper, a small version of the real thing can let them pretend to enjoy the fun of racing their very own mini mini cooper.

I think this is such a fun and cute car! Geared towards those youngsters who are in the three year range and under 50 pounds. They will only be able to ride one at a time but for the price it is a good deal.

The urban force has arrived with this fun camo quad. Your little soldier or hunter in training (3 years and up) will LOVE this larger sized battery operated quad that runs up to 5 mph over rugged terrain.

Power Wheels Cadillac Escalade Kids Ride On Car

Power Wheels Cadillac Escalade Kids Ride on Car

This adult model Cadillac Escalade is a hybrid vehicle! See what I mean about moving back toward electric cars?

Escalade is an old military term from the middle ages and is used to describe an army advancing towards a castle and taking it by force. The Power Wheel Cadillac Escalade lives up to this reputation of being a powerful little electric kids car for climbing hills in the backyard and racing around the neighborhood or cul de sac.

This signature Cadillac Escalade is the top of the line when it comes to electric cars for kids. It is big enough for kids as old as 9 or 10 (if they are smaller sized) to operate. Seats two children at a time. Powerful 12volt battery will run this car for hours at its max speed of 5mph while your children enjoy a music from the real FM radio! (does require 4 C batteries to operate) The doors function, see through glass and chrome accents.

As a ride on toy, the car offers two seats, has lots of power, and tops out at five miles per hour, which is plenty of speed for your child as they enjoy the adventure of exploring in style.

Realistic VW Bug ride on car, in pink, for your favorite Barbie fan. This seats one younger child, in the 2-4 year range. People have commented that it isn't among the largest of electric cars but it isn't in the smaller category either. This VW Bug goes 2.5 mph and goes both forward and backward at that speed.

Ride On Police Cars - for playing cops and robbers

We used to love to play cops and robbers as a kid. This video captures the essence of fun with realistic police chargerand fast "getaway" cars like this Power Wheels Mustang

What little country kids wouldn't enjoy practicing like "daddy" on his or her very own John Deere tractor? Even city kids like to image their yards are the huge outback to be farmed. What better tool for them to imagine with than these ride on tractors?

They will have hours of fun moving their "stuff" around in the tractor or digging for treasure in the sandbox with their very own John Deere Green tractor with farm tractor wheels and a trailer or front loader.

Power Wheel Mud Racing - good clean fun in the mud

Love this video, mostly I think because I like the music :) Dune Buggies, trucks and jeeps seem to do the best when it comes to getting traction in the mud.

Electric Ride On Toy Power Wheels Corvette - That has shiny chrome wheels too

Source

I'm thinking that if my husband's parents had bought him one of these while he was young, just maybe I wouldn't have had to purchase him one as an adult. The corvette he has now is not real practical for country living, dirt roads and snow...not too mention the fact that there is no storage space in the 1998 C4 Corvette.

Yet, like most kids with fast cars, he loves his corvette. You could inspire in your young person a love for beautiful cars early with this lovely red corvette. Who knows they could be the next Jay Leno. Jay is famous for his car collection. He even has an electric car for the 1900's that still works. He also thinks that electric cars will be the future for automotive transportation.

Did you ever have an electric kids car when you were a youngster?
