3 Reasons Children Can Benefit From Playing on a Swing Set and Playground Equipment

Aside from lots of fun, there are other benefits of children playing on swing sets and playground equipment.

Physical Activity:

Swings, ladders, slides and similar playground equipment is a great way to encourage physical activity to keep your child healthy and strong. All the pulling, pushing, climbing, running and walking involved with playing on a simple playground helps to build muscles, improve blood flow, maintain a healthy weight and includes many other great physical fitness benefits.

Encourage Creativity:

Whether they are blasting off in rocket ship on the swings, going through the jungle on the rope ladder or flying through the sky on the slide, their imagination can run wild and they are free to be as creative as their little minds will let them.

Encourage Play Time Away from the T.V. and Computer:

Growing up we didn't have the luxury of sitting in front of the T.V. or behind a computer screen all day. You remember what I am talking about... 'You kids go outside and play!' These days children tend to be showered with toys and activities that keep them busy inside. With a giant swing set and playhouses like the ones listed in the Top 5 Wooden Swing Sets, your child will want to be outside playing and enjoying the great outdoors. Remember, what you instill in them now, will make a difference in what they enjoy later!

5 Things to Look for When Buying a Swing Set or Playground Equipment

There is more to buying and installing a swing set or playground. As the parent and the 'buyer' of the swing set, there are a few things you should always look for.

Safety:

Always check the ratings, check for recalls and check the construction of the swing set or equipment that you are buying. Make sure the playset that you are buying goes above and beyond on providing safe equipment that is free from exposed screws that could cut or scratch your child, that nuts and bolts fit securely in place so that the system is tight and secure, and insure that the height is safe for your child. Always insure that the swing set you are purchasing has safety elements such as hand rails. Kids get excited easily, and the last thing you want is a broken arm from them running and falling off a platform 10 feet in the air.

Price:

Swing sets and other forms of playground equipment can be very costly. It's important to read the reviews and the ratings to make sure that you are getting what you pay for. Whether your equipment is wood, plastic or metal, you should get the best deal for your money. Always shop around and compare prices before making a large purchase. Internet deals are usually the best since there is more 'comparison' shopping going on online.

While you may be ready to spend $1500 on a new swing set, check for quality, warranties, ratings to ensure you are getting the best deal for the dollar!

Equipment:

This one kind of relates back to price, but you should always read the specifications and features. Looking at the picture can be quite deceiving! Most swing sets come in kits, however, some kits only contain a fraction of the swings and slides listed on the pictures. All those fancy bells and whistles may come at an additional price!

Check the Kit Contents:

Again, this one could fall under equipment, but I feel as though it is important enough to list it on it's own. Often times, as with the swings and slides the kits states that it features everything... Aside for checking for all the fun accessories, always check to make sure it includes the wood and the hardware. ALL OF IT! Some kits, usually ones found at local departments stores do not include the wood. You pay $500 for what looks like an awesome deal just to get it home and spend another $800-900, if not more, in wood to complete the swing. The good thing is, all the kits listed here contain the wood and hardware needed. All you have to do is a supply the tools, usually a drill, drill bits and a few wrenches.

Shipping:

Yes, this may seem obvious but you would be surprised at how many buyers forget to calculate the shipping costs. And trust me, they can add up quickly! Just because a swing set is $300 cheaper on one site, doesn't mean it's cheaper at checkout time. Check the shipping and compare prices with shipping included! Since wood and metal are quite heavy, especially the amount needed to build a great swing set, the shipping prices can add up quickly. Sometimes it's better to pay an extra $100 on the price and save $300 on shipping. For instance, some of the swings listed on Amazon are $50-100 more expensive than another site, however, the shipping/freight charges at the other site that ranges from $250-300 makes Amazon cheaper in the long run.

Regardless of who has what, compare prices, contents and freight charges to get the best deal!
