Wooden Toys vs Plastic Toys

Updated on March 12, 2015

Wooden toys versus Plastic toys

I always wanted to explore this topic. Nowadays, most baby toys are made from plastic and in most definitely 90 percent of them are made in China. Many toy producers do not have strict quality guidelines and you can not be sure about the quality. What is your opinion? What kinds of toys do you buy for your children and grandchildren? Wooden or Plastic? What do you think about wooden toys? I look forward to reading your comments.

I say wooden toys, but even those can be scary if they have lead paint. Anyway, the best toys are the classics--wood blocks, wooden trains.

    No way, Monkeybrain!

Plastic toys are just as good as wooden toys in the modern day and prepare children for the modern ways of life. Parents who stick to just wooden toys are often stuck in the olden days and don't want to move forward. Wooden toys allow imagination but a lot of plastic toys also do this (Trains, Cars, Dolls etc.)

Unfair: not all wooden toys are safe and durable, not all plastic toys are toxic, not recyclable

I always feel sorry for kids that only have wooden toys. Their parents say that they promote creativity in their child but creativity doesn't come from being sheltered it comes from being exposed to new things. My kids get bored with wooden toys in fact I would say their creativity is limited by them. But when I stick some plastic toys in front of them they discover new worlds that have nothing to do with the original theme of the toys they were given. They just don't do that with wood toys.

Plastic is cheaper and has more option!

      Have more to say?

I tried to weigh in on the debate, but Squidoo's tenacles are in a bunch, so no place to leave my opinion. Although, I do like wooden toys! Great debate.
