xbox 360 "slim"

Updated on July 13, 2010

Microsoft has decided to bring out a new version of the old version xbox 360 consoles. Now the xbox was unveiled at Microsoft's annual E3 conference on Monday, and they have decided to release it by the end of the week. The name for the xbox is still the xbox, but fans call it the xbox slim. Now the price for the new xbox slim is going to stay around the same price range as the other xbox's, around $300. The arcade xbox is around $200 and the elite is $300 so it's going to fall in place as the others. You'd figure a new thing reduces the price of the older ones and that's true, the arcade will drop to $150, and the elite $250 so only a 50 buck drop. There's not much of a difference between the new xbox and the other xbox's out there, only that the slim dosnet have HD cables, but I'll go over what this xbox packs in.

The new Xbox 360 Slim

Xbox "Slim"

There's not much of a difference but here's a list of the new features in this new xbox "slim".

  • Little smaller
  • suppose to be quieter
  • Built in wireless networking
  • 250 GB internal hard drive that you can remove, it's different than the other hard drives, but you can transfer data from it to the newer one. They plan on making a data transfer kit into it being a retail, for about 20 bucks.
  • Connector for the new upcoming Kinect motion control system
  • 5 USB ports
  • Lighter power adaptor
  • No HD cables

It's got a slimer look to it but not much. It still weighs about the same, and it has touch button's for the power button, and the tray button(to open the tray). It has a 3 openings for air flow, one on top, bottom, and side. They say it's not as fast as the other models, and that they didn't change much beside the cover, the sound, and look. If you already have an xbox 360, then i really wouldn't bother since there isn't that much of a difference performance wise, but if you have 300 laying around than by all means go out and buy, it'll be released by the end of the week.

The "Slim"
The "Slim"

Is it worth it?

If you are a big fan with money, then ya, but if you all ready have an xbox 360 that works fine then don't bother. Right now i doubt that many people have money to spend on things like a new xbox 360, rather than groccerices for a month(walmart). But i'm sure there are people just like the ones with the new Ipad dieing for the new xbox 360 slim , and they'll be the first in line to buy it with about $315 plus tax in their pockets. Not me, because not all of us have $315 to spend on a thing that most already have, since it's the same thing!!! Most people already boughtthe wifi adaptor, the 250 GB had drive, and the cooling fan for their xbox 360, so why go out and buy the same thing? Oh ya cause this xbox has everything built in already, and it's in Black, quieter, and a bit slimmer. If someone were to give me $315 I'd probably buy something else, but that's just me.

Which is better?

PS3- Sounds and looks way better than the new and old Xboxes that Microsoft have released in the past. Even though they came out with a new xbox it still can't match with the PS3. What the PS3 has that the xbox 360 doesn't is that it has Blue-ray player, better graphics, and it's just a very powerful video game console, than the xbox 360.

Xbox 360's- The only great part of the xbox would be it's cheap in price, you get the latest game download add on's, like modern warfare 2, and it has gotten quieter. The new one looks cooler than the PS3, that's what most say, and it has a lot more memory space than the PS3 for a smaller value. Other than that there really isn't much of a difference, I'd choise the PS3, buy i already have an Xbox 360.

Would you buy it?

You say the ps3 has better graphics , but I think your wrong. The ps3 has better resolution. Blu Ray discs give it this advantage. But the graphics are dependant on the game itself. This is one of the reasons games can come to xbox quicker , because it is easier to work with the CPU/ gpu and to provide the more basic resolution, ps3 has a more CPU which supports the blu Ray , and devs find it more difficult to work with. I own the new xbox and have previously owned the ps3 slim , it broke on me so I converted , but not before I researched the 2 consoles which is were I learnt this info! I think the xbox is great , much better online , even though you havta pay, and after copying games to the hdd , its quieter too!

I believe the Xbox 360 online community is far better than the PS3 community. By better I mean more "serious" gamers I guess and more mics too lol. Nice hub.

Nick- Great comment, i like to know that there are people out there that actually take the time to write good and long comments like this one.

You're correct, i don't have all 3 systems, and i don't even see the reason in having 3 systems unless you have a well paying job, or you don't have any kids to support. Why have 3 systems laying around your house, you got your PS3 for entertainment, xbox 360 for gaming, and then the xbox slim, for what purpose? It's just another 300 dollar waste, unless you have nothing else to buy then by all means. There's just no reason into having 3 systems in your house, get rid of the xbox 360 you don't need it, you want it, keep the slim it has everything built in. I bet you have all the systems that have ome out so far, and plan on buying the new DS 3D.

I think you write great, you should take a look into making an account with hubpages, i like to see more about what you think about the DS systems, and the new DS 3D, Great comment one for the books.

you clearly dont own one to even have an opinion or a review so just stop right there and on top of it yur ps3 comparison was totally bias. due to the fact that ps3s only may be free but it sux, 3/4s of its populace only bought it for a cheap blu-ray player and its community is complete garbo filled with kids who can afford the mics because sony is to cheap to put thyem with the consoles and 40 year old men who use the voice changer to sound like aliens and as for the graphics i dont no were you've been but the xbox 360 elites first launch gave xbox a boost to its hd ability just enough so that it ties the ps3 on almost all games. as a matter of fact Call of Duty:MW 2 was compared on xbox and ps3 and geuss who one the better looking award? Xbox 360. Xbox is a better console sure you have a motion controller that bombed on day one cuz it sux so bad sure you have an internet browser - so does my phone? and which my phone can actually download stuff off the internet sure you've got a shiny piece of plastic that is actually smaller inside but the body is just air and gets covered in finger prints 24/7 you may have better exclusives but xbox makes up for it plenty with halo gears and fable all on its own. so please dont be bias cuz your system is not a gaming system its an entertainment system the xbox is actually built for the sole purpose of gaming its not sum fancy dvd play slash pc wannabe hybrid! o and by the way unlike you i actually own all three consoles to have an opinion yur just a fanboy who sticks to one sole console keep being close minded just shows how much sony fans fail when it comes to knowing shit about the gaming world. also the elite stoped including hd cables around its march edition no just on the slim, the wifi built in isnt just some wifi its the fast wifi on any console to date in fact the xbox 360 slim has a better processor to make up for the kinects lack of one so its not slower but faster then the older models and the ps3. on ya and finally the kinect compared to the move lets think logically the ps move is the wii mot without a wire between the nav contoller and the motion unit and a glowing ball on top o ya and its black my bad. its still just as glitchy as the wii mote as apparent from its demostrations at e3 and its soley built for just gameing. the kinect is expensive hardware that connects to all aspects of entertainment includeing video chat that reqiures no hands and the ability of the cam to follow yu 360 degrees and watch movies, tv, news, and listen to music together with 8 people. its extremely sensitive to motion and its something brand new and it still has game?!!! O ya! so you just rember Sony is only good for there pc's tht run Microsoft operating systems and the sound and tv systems thx :]

Penningl- Thanks for the comment, and it will only have HDMI cables, i think it does support it, but the cables don't come with it, i'll check out the new medal of honor. I have most of the series and plan to buy the new as well, if money allows it.

Nice hub Eddy, it does look pretty cool but I'm a PS3 man myself and the slim's not going to change my mind. Didn't know they were coming out with one though, that is pretty interesting. One question, by 'no HD cables' do you mean it will only support HDMI and not have a component cable hook up? It has to atleast support one or the other right? Nice hub once again, your hubs are always good reads.

Medal of Honor Multiplayer Beta is releasing today privately to bf2 players and to everyone on the 21st. Don't know if I'm going to buy the game but I'm definitely going to shell out the 5 dollars to pre order it and get the beta for a few months. Check out the multiplayer video on it looks pretty sweet(I know your a FPS fan like myself).
