ARTHRITIS ! NEW DRUG APPROVED TO EASE THE PAIN Young sufferers set to benefit.

Updated on January 13, 2014

NO RESPESCTOR OF RACE, COLOUR, CREED, OR AGE.

Arthrtiis is so commonly known that it is easy to forget just what a crippling disease it is and how it blights the lives of so many all over the world.

Medical research has striven for years to locate both cause and cure for the condition. Arthritis is often, and incorrectly identified by laymen as a disease which is associated with older age. Indeed, many seem to regard it as an inevitable event as age advances which must simply be endured.

Even today, as research advances at great rates for ALL medical conditions, the view continues to be held that Arthritis is to just be a "grin and bear it" condition. However, even that view wobbles when the young are involved !

There is something in the human condition which identifies with medical problems in the young as being an emotional tug over and beyond the problem itself. The most reasonable explanation for this is the fact that the young have their lives in front of them and they should not have the burden with them through life of a debilitating condition such as Arthritis.

My Hub on the discovery by a sufferer, that relief could be obtained by inserting pure copper coins in the insoles of his shoes generated much interest, and continues to do so, but essentially in relation to older or shall we say, more mature sufferers. Until recently, I was unaware of any particular aid for child sufferers, though that does not mean that there has been no advances in this area of course.

THE IDENTIFICATION OF ARTHRITIS AS A CONDITION CAUSING CRIPPLING INFLAMATORY JOINT CONDITIONS IS LONG STANDING AND AS SUCH MANY EFFORTS TO PROVIDE A CURE OR EASE OF SYMPTOMS AT LEAST HAVE BEEN, AND CONTINUE TO BE, UNDERTAKEN WORLDWIDE.

JUVENILE ARTHRITIS.

The stark reality of Juvenile Arthritis is revealed in simple statistics ! In the UK alone over 2,500 children are crippled by it and as a result over 650 need replacement joints as early as possible.

We are talking here of children who find themselves suddenly subject to the condition which can affect 5 or even more of their body joints. Swelling, stiffness and restriction of movement are the manifestations of the condition which sadly sees many restricted at their tender yound ages, to the confines of a wheelchair.

Until now, little or no hope for these children ever living normal lives could be extended. Normal play, access and involvement is an impossibilty for young sufferers and as a result they become marginalised and unable to join in with their peers in many normal aspects of juvenile life and development.

Set against that stark picture, news of a new Drug to alleviate symptoms is indeed more than welcome, especially as it can be freelly obtained via the local GP.

GROUND BREAKING DRUG NOW AVAILABLE.

Ro Actemra ,{remember that name }. is the new Drug on this particular block. Recent triails have shown that over two thirds of sufferers between the ages of 2 and 16 years of age given the drug made up to 70 % improvement as a result !

TOCILIZUMAB {the name also to remember as it is Ro Actemra with another name} is a drug that has previously given relief to Rheumatoid Arthritis IN ADULTS, is now eligible to help juvenile sufferers. The drug blocks a messenger to the immune system of the body. This messenger, IL-6 ,as it is known ,blocks inflammation and fever in the joints. This is now proven to assist in alleviating the symptoms of juvenile idiopatic arthritis {pJIA} and affords the young sufferers the chance to develop in a much more normal manner than previously

HOPE ! WHEN ALL ELSE IS LOST HOPE IS THE LAST REFUGE.

This new discovery is an important step along the way, but it is far from being a conclusion in the search for a cure for Arthritis. The drug assists in alieviating symptoms but the root causes are yet to be fully discovered and treated. So, the search goes on but this new drug in one word provides the link that young sufferers and their parents have prayed for for many years. It gives HOPE and that above all is why this discovery is such an important one.
