Benefits of Clove Oil for Tooth Ache and Skin

There are several health benefits of clove oil. Most important benefit of clove oil is to relieve tooth ache. Cloves contain a chemical compound called eugenol, which has analgesic, anesthetic and antibacterial properties. Clove oil has been primarily used to relieve toothache over hundreds of years. It also helps to cure gum inflammation and mouth ulcers. It relieves pain due to the extraction of teeth.

Cloves are grown in Zanzibar, Indonesia, India, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Clove is the bud of the flower which turns brown when it is dry. Clove oil is extracted by water distillation process from the buds, leaves and stem of the clove plant. It is a yellow to pale yellow clear liquid..


A small cotton ball dipped in the oil, can be placed in the socket where the tooth is extracted. It is also very good for bad breath. Its sweet spicy smell helps to mask bad breath. Due to these qualities it is used in the manufacture of toothpaste, mouth fresheners, gargling solutions and tooth pain killers.

Clove oil has moisturizing properties. As clove oil is a very irritating it should be mixed with a natural oil for any topical application. It can used to treat acne breakouts and scars. You can add 2-3 drops of clove oil to a tsp of olive oil, coconut oil or grape seed oil and apply it on the skin. It can also be used to treat skin sores, cuts, bruises and wounds. It is added to cosmetic products like creams and lotions. It helps to reduce the stretch marks and baggy skin. Lotions and emollients made from clove oil help to cure bruises and cuts.

Skin Irritation

If you come into contact with poison oak or poison ivy you may suffer from skin irritation. Clove oil helps to sooth skin irritation.

Blood Purifier

Clove oil is a very good blood purifier. It also helps to improve blood circulation. When applied to the forehead. It helps to boost metabolism and improve the immune system. It has antiviral properties which help to keep many diseases at bay.

Clove oil for Indigestion

Clove oil is a very good remedy of indigestion. It is used to treat other stomach related conditions like motion sickness, nausea and vomiting.

Pain Reliever

Warm clove oil when dropped into the ear helps to cure earache. Because of its analgesic properties it helps to relieve muscular pain. It can be applied topically to the affected area. It also provides relief from tension headache.

Clove oil is an aphrodisiac. It helps to increase sex drive. Some people mix it coconut oil and apply it to the hair to promote hair growth. These are some of the health benefits of clove oil.
