Updated on May 12, 2011

Eat for Beauty

Good day. What a peace and relaxing Labor Day and I have the opportunity to enjoy this special day with my beloved family and friends in my hometown. Today is quite meaningful for me indeed, because, today is my birthday!!

While enjoying the birthday celebration, there was a thought suddenly appear in my mind, it said "Yes! you are getting 1 year older than yesterday.". I know it sound a bit ridicules, but I believe that aging issue is definitely one of the "headache" issues that everyone of us has to face and to fight with it.

I quickly do some researches and check through the articles that published in the recent health magazines. After doing homework, I found that the top 10 best anti-aging foods that are recommended by the health specialist are as below:

The Lycopene contain in tomatoes is an efficient natural antioxidant and free radicals fighter. It is an excellent anti-aging property. Normally the nutrition value of fruits and vegetables especially Vitamin C will easily be spoiled upon cooking, but the bioavailable of Lycopene in processed (cook/ boil/ heat etc) tomatoes is found four times richer than fresh tomatoes. Opt for cooked tomatoes instead of raw tomatoes, because Lycopene is insoluble in water, it is more easier to absorb by our body after cooked.

Broccoli is rich in antioxidant, β-Carotene and Vitamin C that help to against free-radicals and protect our brain cell. The high value of indole-3-carbinol boost up the DNA cell repairs and prevents the growth of cancer cells. One serving of Broccoli contains half amount of β-Carotene and more than two times of Vitamin C that require by our body daily.

Green Tea

Green Tea is famous of its cancers prevention, reduce level of lipids in blood and anti-aging abilities. This is because green tea is rich in Catechin which efficiently increase the expression of SOD (Superoxide Dismutase) and revenge the free-radicals.

The skins and seeds of grape are excellent sources of poly-phenols such as OPC, Resveratrol, Catechin. Those phenols are the sources of natural antioxidant that may help in anti-aging, cancers prevention, anti-virus, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, protect our cardiovascular and liver.

Oat is one of the commonly known healthy foods. It contains more soluble fiber than any other of grains. The oat and oat bran (outer casing of oat) is able to lower the level of LDL (so called "bad cholesterol“) and triglyceride, TG. Regular consumption of oat is believed to lower the risk of heart disease, promote healthier digestion system and enhance our body immune system.

Another one would be Zucchini or Summer Squash. It is believed to be an excellent anti-aging food. The anti-oxidants in it improve memory and reduce aging-related processes by up to 40%. According to a study conducted by the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, the vitamins A and E in combination with the omega-3 fatty acids encourages the absorption of fat soluble anti-oxidants and aids effective reconstruction of brain cells.
