10 things I would tell my younger self
Having just recently turned 30 I found myself looking back at the choices I made when I was younger. Now, we all know that time travel is pretty unlikely to happen, but if you could travel back in time and spend a day with your younger self, what advice would give them?
For me, here is my top 10.
Don't buy anything unless you can pay for it in cash (with the exception of property). Credit cards are evil. No matter how much you want something now or in the future, it will be worth the wait.
Learn an instrument, skateboard and draw. Do not quit! You will regret it later in life.Turn one of your hobbies into your money maker.
Do not date. Obviously I wouldn't tell her that. But be more selective of who you date, get to know the person as a friend before anything else.
If you are in a relationship and the bad times start out weighing the good then you need to make changes or get out. Never let anyone take you for granted.
Respect your family but know that you are allowed to be different and have different views/opinions.
Do not smoke!! No matter how many people are doing it.. Don't. You know it's bad for you but even though you don't care right now you really will later.
Keep playing sports, it's much harder to start again later in life if you quit now.
Keep a journal next to your bed and write in it every single day. Write about everything; your dreams, real events, feelings, thoughts & goals in life.
7. The company you keep
Do not get caught up in bitchiness. Those who talk badly about others to you will surely be doing the same thing behind your back.
Make more of an effort to stay in contact with good people, you will miss those friends further down the track.
8. Trust your instincts
Always go with your gut, if something doesn't feel/seem right, it's probably not right.
9. Learn a second language
Being fluent in more than one language is a major asset. Learn Spanish, you will wish you had.
10. Live life for you
Be yourself, don't worry about what other people think of you. Other people's opinions of you are irrelevant. Live your life by doing what makes you happy as long as you aren't being unkind to others.
What advice would you give?
I'm interested to hear what advice you would give your younger self. Please leave a comment!
