10 weeks pregnant – Symptoms, Pictures, Ultrasound Scan

After ten weeks of pregnancy the baby is almost the size of a prune. It has tiny growths on the legs which later become the ankles and knees. The tiny arms also consist of elbows which are curved. Small baby teeth buds form within the mouth below the gums, and the kidneys and stomach just about begin functioning, making urine and digestive juices. The testes start producing testosterone if the baby is a boy.

The mother experiences a lot of pregnancy-related problems after being 10 weeks pregnant. The muscles of the large intestine become lethargic, thereby causing constipation. Mothers need to intake lots of water, veggies, and whole grains, as well as exercise regularly to alleviate the constipation symptoms. Also, the veins tend to become easily visible and headaches become a common occurrence.

Symptoms after 10 weeks pregnant

  • Vomiting and nausea: It is one of the most and common incapacitating symptoms of pregnancy. Avoid skipping a meal to quell such queasiness as it will only worsen the nausea. Mothers may opt for seasickness or acupressure bands, if intake of any kind of food causes an upset stomach. Ginger ale drinks and ginger candies also help.

  • Ache in lower abdomen: “Round ligament pain,” or increasing pain that affects the ever growing belly is another usual pregnancy symptom, which mothers often find surprising. It arises due to thinning and excessive stretching of the belly supporting ligaments. When the belly becomes larger and heavier, the ligaments need to bear the excess weight which then causes dull or sharp pain. Getting off your feet and relaxing is the best remedy.

  • Fatigue: It is another hassle of pregnancy. However, you can be rest assured that fatigue will be a non-issue after the passage of about one month. At 10 weeks of pregnancy, mothers need to start taking care of themselves, take sufficient rest, ask others to help around, and get some exercise whenever possible. Walking around for some time will not only help alleviate the fatigue, but will also result in better sleep.

  • Food aversions and cravings: The queasiness can cause food aversions while the wants of the growing baby will result in food cravings. It is however important to avoid indulging yourself without self-control. The needs of the growing baby are minimal at this point. Mothers can go for a piece of brownie or chocolate; but that should be the end. In case your cravings cannot be satiated, then divert your mind by reading a book or meeting a friend, etc.

  • Flatulence: It is one of the most embarrassing symptoms of pregnancy. After 10 weeks pregnant all the muscles continue to relax due to the hormones, including the gastrointestinal muscles. This results in increased indigestion and increased intestinal gas production. Expectant mothers can decrease flatulence by keeping a track of the foods consumed, and avoiding the gas-causing foods. In case you do not know the gas-causing foods, then check which foods cause gas, and later avoid them; or warn others about flatulence after eating such foods.

  • Indigestion and heartburn: It is possible to prevent heartburn by taking certain precautions. You should not eat while lying down. Also, avoid going to bed or lying down just after a meal. Prop up your head with the help of pillows, by at least 6 inches, when going to sleep. This will aid in keeping down the varied intestinal juices.

  • Elevated vaginal discharge: The additional amounts of pregnancy hormone estrogen and increased production of mucus to avoid infections result in increased flow of blood to the pelvic region. This causes a milky-white, thin discharge from the vagina. It is harmless and not a cause for worry. Avoid using special washes or wipes as it can imbalance the fragile functioning of the genital tract and result in irritation.

  • Occasional dizziness or fainting: At 10 weeks pregnant, the body is still getting used to the increased blood flow throughout the body. It is therefore possible to occasionally experience dizziness. It is important to sit down during such episodes, so as to prevent fainting or falling down. Besides keeping hydrated, you may also intake healthy snacks for that rapid boost to the blood-sugar levels.

  • Occasional headaches: The distinct headaches accompanying pregnancy can be associated to the additional hormones, as well as other factors like hunger, fatigue, and stress. Consult a doctor for getting medications to alleviate these headaches. If you want to avoid taking drugs, then application of cold compresses on the neck and face, as well as a fresh-air walk at a park can help.

  • Increased visibility of veins on the body: The elevated supply of blood across the body also causes increased visibility of veins that crisscross through the breasts and belly. 10 weeks pregnant – what does the ultrasound show?

You will probably see a larger head compared to the rest of the body. The skull begins to form, with bone development. The baby is the size of the peanut and you can see the neck being developed. You may not be able to feel it, but you can see the baby move in the ultrasound.
