11 Homeopathic Medicines to Keep at Home for Children

Updated on October 19, 2011

Children tend to fall ill very often in their initial years. It is probably the way they develop immunity to external infections at a later date, but they can be quite taxing for the young parents.

Many parents are worried about giving their children antibiotics and strong medication repeatedly. This has led them to explore alternative medicine systems such as homeopathy.

Personally I have great faith in the small sugar pills laced with medicine. My child has always reacted well to these medicines and has never had any side effect to them.

Here I share a set of 11 medicines that I have used with him and still do. I also give you the basic signs and symptoms that I use the medicines for.

I hope you understand that I am not a doctor. I am just a parent who has found that these homeopathic medicines have helped treat her child and would like to share this information.

What you need in the first aid box

These are the basic medicines that you need at home. You can look up other homeopathic bio combination medicines in another hub I wrote. Those medicines deal with specific ailments that are explained in the hub there.

Here I give the name of the medicine, the number after the name is the potency in which the medicine must be given to the child. A list of symptoms that warrant the medicine are given in the following line.

1. Podophylum 30

Loose motion - watery gushing, yellow, frothy

2. Ipecac 30

Vomiting, cough, green motions, change in weather

3. Chammomila 30

Teething, irritation, salivation, grinding of jaws, green motion, restlessness, colic, stomach ache

4. Cina 30

Frothy white motion, rubbing of nose and ears, stomach ache

5. Antimcrud 30

Bloated stomach, loose motion, belching, burping, white coating of tongue, indigestion, flatulence, colic

6. Gelsium 30

Has fever but with no cold and cough

7. Arsenic alba 30

Has fever and also has cold and cough

8. Aconite nap 30

Has pain in throat, just beginning cold

9. Nux Vomica 30

Feeling uneasy during change of season, cold

10. Calcaria Carb 30

Indigestion, flatulence, bloated feeling, overeating

11. Arnica 30

For healing faster after being cut, after hard fall, for open wound that bleeds

Dosage for the medicine is 4 pills taken three times a day. Is it imperative to note that the medicines must be taken at least half an hour before or after eating food. In case the infant is too small for the pills to be swallowed, you can dissolve them in a couple of spoons of water and feed it to the child.
