17 Cancer Fighting Foods That You Must Know About

Updated on June 4, 2014

Unfortunately everyone knows someone who has passed away from cancer, beat cancer or has just been diagnosed with cancer.

Each year nearly 8 million people world wide lose the battle to cancer. Many of these deaths can be prevented from the right diet.

There are many foods that cause cancer to thrive in the body such as white sugar which actually feeds cancer cells.

But today you are going to discover 17 powerful super foods and liquids that will fight and/or prevent cancer.

I myself have been reading a book called "The Cancer Killers" The cause is the cure by Dr. Charles Majors and Dr. Ben Lerner. This is the source from which I have been using the research cancer and what foods fight it!

So let's get started.

Green Tea is 1 of 17 cancer fighting foods/beverages
Green Tea is 1 of 17 cancer fighting foods/beverages

Cancer Fighting Food #1 - Green Tea

Among many other amazing health benefits green tea contains high levels of catechins, which research shows can block the growth of cancer.

According to Cancer Research UK;

The prevent DNA damage by mopping up free radicals, blocking the growth of tumor cells and stopping the activation of cancer-causing chemicals

So if you haven't been drinking green tea I want to encourage you to drink at least one cup a day.

The best kind to purchase would be organic green tea from your local grocery or health food store.

Do You Like Broccoli?

Cancer Fighting Food #2 - Broccoli

Some people love it and some people hate it! If I cook broccoli for supper.....guess what....I'm the only one eating it.

Unless however I sneak it into sauces, but don't tell my family that.

I do this because broccoli is a very inexpensive super food.

It is one of the BEST cancer-fighting foods on the planet. It is loaded with a wide range of substances that fight and/or inhibit cancers such as breast, prostate, skin, colon and rectal cancers.

My research from the book "The Cancer Killers" states

Broccoli can promote the production of certain enzymes that deactivate free radicals and carcinogens and enable the body to detoxify dangerous hormone metabolites. One of these compounds, known as sulforaphane, which assists the body in metabolizing hormones, directly inhibits cancer cell proliferation and is found in up to one thousand times greater concentration in the sprouts of the broccoli vs the mature plant.

Cancer Fighting Foods #3 - Cabbage and Cauliflower

Oh man do I ever like to eat mashed up cauliflower. I never really knew that I was consuming a cancer fighting food.

Just like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are members of the calciferous family and are especially good at fighting breast cancer.

The reason it is especially good for breast cancer is because they help convert cancer promoting estrogen into a more protective hormone.

One yummy way to add cauliflower into your diet is to boil in water until soft, then mash them just like you would potatoes. Add a little butter and garlic powder and enjoy!

Cancer Fighting Foods #4 - Cacao

Now before you get all excited here this doesn't mean that you can eat a bunch of sugar filled chocolate bars.

The best way to ingest this cancer fighting super food is by putting cacao powder in smoothies.

This raw form of chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that are highly absorbance from the body. Cacao has a phenomenal oxygen radical absorbance capacity.

This morning I noticed that cacao is one of the main ingredients in the breakfast shake I have every morning.

I LOVE this shake and mix it with Chocolate Almond milk for breakfast everyday

Cancer Fighting Foods #5 - Dark Leafy Greens

Kale, collards, escarole, mustard greens, romaine lettuce and swiss chard are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, cancer inhibiting carotenoids and antioxidants.

They also contain phytochemicals which boost enzymes that detoxify carcenogens and help repair DNA damage.

I absolutely love to make Kale chips. Even my 7 year old daughter likes to eat them with me. We have replaced doritos now with Kale chips!

Crispy Kale Chips

  1. I would suggest that you buy pre-cut and pre-washed Kale.
  2. Preheat oven to 250 F
  3. Pour Kale in a mixing bowl
  4. Pour on 1 Tbsp of Olive Oil
  5. Sprinkle with sea salt and mix
  6. Put Kale on baking pan and bake for 15 to 20 minutes (until crispy) Caution; keep your eye on them because they can burn easily

Is this a recipe you would try?

Cancer Fighting Foods #6 - Organic Animal Products

Yes even when it comes to meat these day you will want to purchase organic grass fed, pasture raised animal protein.

The food industry is packing our meats full of cancer causing chemicals/hormones that it really is important to eat organic meats.

Meat from wild caught fish have high levels of Omega 3 while, grass fed beef contain cancer fighting agent called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)

Now you have an even better reason to support your local farms.

Cancer Fighting Foods #10 - Seaweed

Yep good old seaweed is on the list!

I'm sure like myself you never eat seaweed and I don't blame you. After learning that seaweed contains beta carotene and cancer fighting carotenoind fucoxanthin I will be researching ways to add this to my diet and I encourage you do to the same.

Sushi is always wraped in seaweed and you can also wrap veggies in it.

There are many different varieties of mushrooms such as;

  • versicolor
  • coriolus
