20 Effective Ways to Boost Your Self Confidence

Updated on April 27, 2017

Self Confidence Boosting Steps

With social media, the constant bombardment of images promoting an unrealistic standard of beauty, and the mainstream media, more and more people are struggling with self confidence issues. In this article, we are going to outline a number of steps you can take to boost your self confidence. Remember that it takes time to build self confidence, but trust the process. Self confidence comes from within, it all starts with you.

1. Strip Bare

In order to see change, you have to strip bare. Not literally, but figuratively. You have to get to the root of the problem. Why are you struggling with your confidence? You need to identify the triggers, identify the times when you feel at your lowest. Write down the reasons you think your self confidence is low. Once you have done this, you can move on and start to turn things around for the better.

2. Get a Journal

If you don't already have one, get a journal. It can be old, an empty notepad, or it can be a brand new journal. Just get something to write in, write down your thoughts, feelings, your goals, your daily tasks. Just write.

3. Face your Fear

“Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing.” -Theodore Roosevelt.

One of the most effective ways of boosting your confidence is to face your fear. Once you start taking the steps to face your fears, you empower yourself, you free yourself from feelings of low self confidence. The magic is in the doing, so write down 10 things you are afraid of, and do them. Challenge yourself to do at least one thing each day for the next 10 days. You don't have to do anything drastic, it could be as simple as going for a jog outdoors instead of running on the treadmill. Just tick those things off your list, get them done! You will feel much more confident afterwards. Give it a try !

4. Gratitude

Be grateful, this might seem strange, how can being grateful help to boost your confidence? Well , being grateful for what you have helps to strengthen your emotions, makes you feel happier, and it boosts your self esteem. When you are constantly complaining about what you don't have, and constantly focusing on the things you don't have, rather than the things you do have, can increase feelings of overall happiness. Give gratitude a try, and write down 3 things that you feel grateful for every single day for a month, you will be surprised at how happy it makes you feel.

Powerful Ways to Boost Your Confidence

5. Positive Affirmationsn

Affirmations help to change the way you think. The more you feed positive affirmations into your mind, the more confident you will begin to feel. It won't happen overnight, just try it for a week, and witness the changes. Try some of the following affirmations, say them out loud every single day in the mirror.

  • I believe in myself wholeheartedly

  • I love myself with every fibre of my being

  • I am enough

  • I am confident, happy, and worthy

  • I can do whatever I put my mind to

  • I am uniquely made, I am love.

Kamal Ravikat stated in his book Love Yourself Like Your life depends on it, that you should write a letter to yourself. Here is an example of the letter he wrote to himself when he was on a quest to love himself more.

I vow to love you fully and completely, and deeply in every way. In all thoughts, in all actions, in all my desires, and my being. I vow to love you.

Write a letter like this to yourself, read it whenever you are feeling down, whenever you are feeling low on confidence. Just give yourself a dose of pure, unadulterated love

6. Set Some Goals

Set some goals, write them down, take steps to achieve those goals, win! You see, when you set goals and take the necessary steps to achieve those goals, you build your confidence. You prove to yourself that you can do anything that you put your mind to, you begin to soar.

Brian Tracy says: “Your level of self confidence is probably the critical factor in everything you accomplish.” When your self confidence is high, you will try almost anything. However, when your self confidence is low, you will shy away from trying new things, you will be too apprehensive to start projects and set goals. Therefore, if you want to build your self confidence, make it your mission to set some goals. They don't have to be huge goals, just set some goals, start small, get things done, improve your confidence.

7. Identify What You are Good at

If you do not already know, identify what you are good at. When you are good at something, and you carry it out, it boosts your self confidence.

When you do this, you feel more confident, more energetic, happier, healthier. Fake it to make it.
