Hoarseness Dyshonia and Aphonia

Hoarseness of voice or dysphonia is a term that refers difficulty in making sounds when you try to speak. Aphonia is a more severe condition where you cannot produce sound. Hoarseness is generally caused by an inflammation of the larynx, pharynx or tonsillitis

It occurs most often among smokers and among alcoholics, as well as people who use high voice. (Announcers, singers, teachers, speakers, etc.).

The possible causes are:

  • Accidental factors
  • Alcohol
  • Speaking loudly for a period
  • Scarring of the larynx due to trauma, surgery or caustic injuries
  • Injury from a tracheotomy
  • Goiter
  • Nerve paralysis acting on the vocal cords
  • Diphtheria

Home remedies for Dysphonia

Onion and Honey Mix

Using blender, grind one onion and then add two tablespoons honey. Strain the mixture and drink about three tablespoons daily of this preparation.

Lemon Juice

Boil a cup of water, let cool and add lemon juice (1 lemon). Then gargle twice a day.

Pineapple

Eat slices of pineapple or drink its juice for the recovery of hoarseness, since their ingredients revitalize tissue of the vocal cords.

Salt Water

Gargle a cup of salt water several times a day.

Steam Inhaler

Boil a pot of water. Hold your head over the pot and breathe slowly through your mouth. Or buy a steam inhaler to make the process easy.

Leeks

Chop 2 large leeks and boil it in a liter of water for 20 minutes. Then strain the broth and intake throughout the day.

Lemon and Baking Soda

Wash and halve a lemon. Extract its juice and mix with half a glass of water and half a teaspoon of baking soda. Take this once daily.

Keep this in mind!

Avoid smoking because the smoke may worsen the condition.

Keep clean the nasal passages, because breathing through the nose does not irritate the vocal cords.

Keep the voice low. Even after you get your voice back, be careful not to force the vocal cords so that the problem does not return again. It is best to talk quietly and not scream.

Carrot

Boil 200g of carrots in one liter of water for 10 minutes. After that, cut it into slices and squeeze. Mix the juice with 1 teaspoon honey and take daily until you can speak well.

Rosemary tea

Pour 1 tablespoon rosemary in a cup of boiling water. Cover and let cool. Gargle several times a day.

Eucalyptus Leaves

Make an infusion with 1 tablespoon eucalyptus leaves in a cup of boiling water. Cover and let cool. Strain and gargle several times to get faster relief.

Cloves with Lemon and Honey

Boil a handful of cloves in a liter of water for 10 minutes; add 3 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon honey. Drink a warm cup of the mixture before bedtime.

Barley and Honey

Boil 1 tablespoon of barley in 1/2 liter of water for 15 minutes. Then drain and add 1 tablespoon honey. Gargle using this preparation several times a day.

Cabbage salad

Wash several sheets of raw cabbage and prepare a salad by adding lemon, olive oil and a pinch of salt. Eat three times a day to feel better

Apple cider vinegar

Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar heated to about 50 °, in a glass of warm water. Take a big sip and make gargling. Then take another sip, but this time swallowing, so that the preparation reaches every area of the throat. Repeat this procedure once every hour till you feel better.

Cabbage and Celery

Wash and chop 2 stalks celery and half a cabbage. Put it in blender, add little water and blend for a few minutes. Take this juice 2 times a day on an empty stomach in the morning and at noon

Plum leaves

Boil 2 tablespoons plum leaves in a pint of water for 5 minutes. Let stand until cool. Perform swish and gargle to get better.

The juice extracted from the berries with hot water and honey is an excellent remedy against diseases of the vocal cords, hoarseness and sore throats

Black Currant Leaves

Boil 20 gr black currant leaves in a liter of water for 10 minutes and leave in a teapot well covered for 8 minutes. It not only relieves hoarseness but also an excellent remedy to cure cases of convulsive and spasmodic cough, sore throat and swollen glands.

The Flower Mix

Boil 1 liter of water in a pan, add the mixture of 100 g of marshmallow flowers, 50 g of dill flowers and 100 g of chamomile flowers. Cook three minutes. After that time, strain and store in a dark place. Drinking two cups daily will ease your throat.

Erisimo Flowers

Boil 40 g of inflorescences of ERISIMO in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes. Allow to stand and strain. Perform various gargles a day.

Fennel Fruits

Pour a few fennel fruits in a cup of warm milk for 10 minutes; sweeten with few drops of honey. Taken several times a day

Visit doctor especially if:

Chronic Aphonia. If you are unable to talk at all, visit a doctor immediately.

Aphonia comes in a child (under four years), which may indicate the likelihood of a serious health problem. In a small child, the air passage is so narrow that if the tissues under the larynx are inflamed, the conduit can be blocked with mucus making breathing difficult.
