3 Reasons Blueberries Are Super Good For You!

Updated on April 20, 2013

1. Blueberries Are Great For Your Brain!

Blueberries have been nicknamed "brainberries" for good reason! Studies suggest that blueberries may act like a fountain of youth for your brain. They may help brain neurons communicate more effectively, improve memory, and reduce the effects of age related diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia.

2. Blueberries Are Very High In Antioxidants!

Tests have shown that blueberries have one of the highest ORAC values of any food in the world. ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity and is a way of rating antioxidant power. It takes into account not just the number of antioxidants in a food but how well the different antioxidants work together. Antioxidants slow the aging process and help protect the body against many diseases including cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's.

3. Blueberries Are Good For Your Heart!

In addition to being high in antioxidants and fiber, which are both great for your heart, blueberries may also help to improve your cholesterol levels. A compound in blueberries called pterostilbene may help prevent plaque buildup in your arteries and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

I love blueberries. They are on my list of good brain foods: https://hubpages.com/health/good-brain-foods...

I try to get organic blueberries whenever they are in season. And I get the frozen organic blueberries when they are not in season.
