31 Phobias: #12 the Fear of Satan
The Devil
Satanophobia: the Fear of Satan
Don't Most of Us Fear Satan...?
I can understand someone suffering from Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia being it's the specific fear of the number "666", which represents the "mark of the beast", in other words -- it's Satan's symbol. People have feared this number since it was written in the Bible in the Book of Revelation 13:18.
I can understand (somewhat) Daemonophobia being it's the fear of demons. Demons come from Hell and that's where Satan resides. Demons are considered also as "Hell's Angels" because they do Satan's bidding.
Now, to be downright terrified of Satan that it affects your daily life becomes Satanophobia: the fear of Satan.
There are very, very few cases where a person suffers from more than one phobia that are all associated with Satan and Hell.
Stygiophobia
The Fear of Hell
Actually, we should all fear Hell more than we do, but there are those who take it a little more seriously than most other God fearing Christians. These people are considered to be Stygiophobiacs.
Stygiophobia is an extreme and irrational fear of Hell. Most sufferers also fear Satan and his demons, but not to the extreme fear they have to Hell.
Stygiophobia doesn't just affect Christians, other religions as well have believers that have an extreme and irrational fear of Hell.
Daemonophobia
The Fear of Demons
Daemonophobia is the extreme and irrational fear of demons. Many daemonophobics believe (and fear) in Hell and in Satan, but believe that demons actually walk among us in disguise. Because Hell contains so many demons, it's only obvious that Satan would allow a select few to walk among us totally unnoticeable.
Satan and his demons are here on Earth to tempt mankind to fall away from God and to join them in Hell. There are Daemonophobics that take that very, very seriously.
There are Daemonophobics that will avoid places they consider unholy. They're usually very cautious about meeting new people for fear that they may be a demon in disguise. Experts have stated that there have been a few cases where a Daemonophobic starts hallucinating and will start seeing demons in their true form.
