Diarrhea Treatment is Easy

Diarrhea occurs when stools become loose and go often without any consistency. It is an effective way to remove the unwanted substances from the body. The symptoms are vomiting, stomach pain, consistent thirst, fever, nausea or even dehydration. The results are potentially dangerous in children as well as in people older than 65 years. There is loss in fluid of the body by vomiting that needs to be replaced. Diarrhea, in most cases, is a symptom of another problem. It is caused by food poisoning due to bacteria and food allergies. It may also be caused due to the excess alcohol consumption, laxatives or caffeine.

It can be cured with the help of some natural remedies without obstructing the work of our immune system. Our body uses diarrhea to remove the bacteria or viruses that we might have taken while eating. Stopping diarrhea very soon is not a good idea. However, when it comes for several days then dehydration and loss of several important nutrients from the body can be dangerous.

Causes of Diarrhea

Diarrhea is an intestinal dysfunction that causes frequent and liquid or semi-liquid stools, and abdominal pain with loss of fluids and minerals vital to the body.

Diarrhea can be caused by:

  • Contaminated water or spoiled food
  • Virus
  • Food allergy
  • Antibiotics or other medications
  • Excess alcohol
  • Excessive use of laxatives
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Parasitic infection
  • Extreme stress
  • Organic bowel diseases (eg Crohn ulcerative colitis).

Some Precautions to be taken

Drink lots of water, as a measure of first aid to avoid dehydration due to loss of fluid and minerals.

Avoid foods such as pears, peaches, plums, beans, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, as they make the stools soft which make the diarrhea continue.

Check if you suffer from lactose intolerance If suffer from diarrhea every time you drink milk, it can be a lactose intolerance. To be certain, you should refrain completely from consuming dairy products for one to two weeks. If diarrhea stops, then use milk products gradually. If the diarrhea starts again, you can confirm lactose intolerance. In this case, you should avoid most dairy products except yogurt and some aged cheeses such as cheddar.

Check your medicines, as some can cause diarrhea. Example: Antacids, because they contain magnesium which can cause diarrhea. If you suffer from this condition, you should try antacids containing only aluminum hydroxide without magnesium. You need to consult a doctor if you suspect other drugs to be the cause.

Medical care is must in the following cases:

  • Infants and young children
  • Diarrhea that persists for more than three consecutive days.
  • A fever accompanied by diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) or extreme weakness.
  • Diarrhea that has blood, pus or mucus in stool.

Great hub! I don't know if I would boil the Raspberry leaves though...I think they would be strong enough if you just steeped them. I'm an herbalist so I have experience with the herbal remedies and the Raspberry works pretty good. Thyme is also an antibacterial so that's a great one - glad you included it! Also loved the fact that you let your readers know that diarrhea although unpleasant is also natures way of cleansing so not to interfere right away...great advice! Voted up :)

I like the idea of orange peel tea. If I ever run into this problem (no pun intended), I will try it. This is a really handy post for parents of young children.
