Some have suggested that the phallic shape of this vegetable may have something to do with it. Asparagus does contain vitamin E which has been associated with the stimulation of sex hormones, so maybe this legend is true after all!

2. Asparagus Has Distinct Male and Female Versions

It is one of the only plants that does. Most of the hybrid varieties grown today are male. Male plants produce more spheres for harvesting. Female plants can be distinguished by their red berries.

3. Asparagus May Improve Your Mood

Asparagus is full of folic acid, and low levels of folic acid have been linked to depression. It also contains tryptophan, which supports the production of serotonin, an important brain chemical for regulating mood.

4. Asparagus Has Been Used To Improve Fertility

It is thought to increase sperm count and to strengthen the female reproductive organs. It may also help increase the milk production of nursing mothers and help to relieve menstrual cramps. Asparagus may also help to prevent birth defects.
