7 Benefits Of Practicing Yoga

Updated on July 25, 2015

Yoga is a mental and physical practice that has been taught for many centuries, originating in India and later spread to other cultures around the world. There are great advantages that come from doing yoga on a regular basis! Listed below are 7 benefits that come from practicing yoga.

Weight Loss

Practicing yoga can surely help you with weight loss, beacause it is a workout. The aerobics involved are responsible for burning calories. Going on a long run or doing a heavy crossfit workout may be a better way to lose pounds in a quicker way, but yoga may seem like a more relaxing and less stressful way to lose weight for you.

Flexibility

Doing yoga on a regular basis can help gain flexibility. There are a variety of yoga poses that can help you increase your flexibility in time because of the stretching and aerobics that are performed. Just know that if you are trying to gain flexability from yoga, you will not get results from doing one practice. Seeing results in flexability may take weeks.

Respiration

Another great advantage that comes from yoga is that it strengthens your respiritory system. There are a variety of yoga excercises that require certain breathing patterns that may strengthen the heart and lungs. Some use it to help provide asthma relief.

Builds Muscle

Yoga can help you gain more muscle. Doing the aerobics in yoga exercises make the muscles work in a way that is not too stressful, but you are still gaining strength from practicing it.

Relaxation

In most cases of practicing yoga, you will feel more relaxed. Your heart rate become slightly lower and your blood flow increases at a healthy rate from doing the aerobics, which may lead to an increase in relaxation.

Better Sleep

Yoga may help decrease anxiety that you may have from events that are stressful in your life, and it may help you have a better sleep during the night. You will wake up and feel more refreshed and full of energy from having a peaceful rest.

Better Posture

Practicing yoga that involves positions where your head is balanced well over your spine can help you have a better posture. Having a good posture is important because if you have a bad posture, you may be at risk of having back, neck and muscle problems in the future. If you are struggling with your posture, yoga is a good solution, but do not expect results overnight. Getting a perfect posture will take time depending on your body and the posture you are currently maintaining.

Yoga is a great practice that everyone should try at some point because of the benefits that come with it. I hope you found this article helpful and interesting. Please leave any questions or comments you may have below!
