5 Product Free Anti Ageing Tips for Youthful Skin
Anti ageing creams, serums, lotions and potions, they all promise us the same thing; to turn back the hands of time and visible reduce the signs of ageing skin. Can we turn back those hands of time without the beauty products? Women are always on the look out for that next must have anti-ageing product, but I do believe there are anti-ageing secrets to be found beyond the beauty aisle.
Here’s a few quick and simple tips you can act on today for brighter, more youthful looking skin!
What kind of sleeper are you?
We all know getting enough sleep is important, but how we sleep can have some fantastic anti-ageing benefits too!
- Silk Pillowcases – more than just a luxury item, silk pillowcases are kinder to our skin, reducing pull on the skin as we toss and turn throughout the night. Invest in a good silk pillowcase; even if it does not match the rest of your bedding, you are only pulling it out to sleep on! Be sure to wash it at least once a week to reduce the amount of dirt, sweat and dead skin cells you are sleeping on each night!
Did you know? Silk pillowcases are also great for happy, healthy, shiny hair!
- On your back – When you sleep on your side with your face all squished up, you are going to cause the skin on that side to wrinkle prematurely. These tend to be called ‘sleep lines’ and you are most likely to have more on one side of your face than the other. Sleeping on your back reduces these ‘sleep lines’ and gravity will give you a natural face lift as you sleep too! Silk pillowcases and special ‘beauty pillows’ can help reduce ‘sleep lines’ for side sleepers. The beauty pillows will reduce the pressure put on the face as you sleep if you really must sleep on your side!
2. You are what you eat
What we put into our bodies shows on the outside, so a diet filled with rich anti-ageing foods will give your skin a more youthful, glowing appearance, as well as a super health boost to your insides! Most anti-ageing foods are high in antioxidants, zinc, and vitamin E which all love our skin. Collagen boosting foods like turkey keep our faces looking fuller and the humble avocado has been hailed a skin-hero for hundreds of years!

- Knowing what to eat is a great place to start, but so is knowing what not to eat! Foods high in sugars and saturated fats play havoc with our skin, causing excess oil build up, acne and inflammation of the blood vessels. Cut down on any excess and unnecessary naughty foods (you know what I am talking about!) and boost your intake of water, fruits and veggies!
- Foods high in processed sugars have been proven to weaken collagen and reduce the development of new collagen cells. Collagen is what keeps your cheeks plump, without it, your skin will sag and fold!
3. It's all in the neck
Did you know the skin on your neck could age your look more than the skin on your face? What is the point in a perfectly smooth, youthful face if the skin on your neck is sagging and wrinkled? Though I am going to talk about product – I am talking about using what you have already got, not buying something new! The next time you are moisturizing your face, day and night, apply the same product to your neck too! Starting at the collarbones, work in upwards strokes back to your chin. Always upwards and outwards!
Top Tip – use a daily moisturizer with added spf! Sun damage instantly ages your skin, and the skin on your neck is quite thin and delicate, making it more susceptible to sun damage!
4. Squint no more
When was the last time you had an eye test? Ideally, you should be having one at least every 2 years. If you find yourself having to squint to see what bus is coming up the road, or because you are loosing focus when reading this article, chances are you might need glasses. Repetitive squinting stretches the skin around the eyes, causing those dreaded lines and crows’ feet. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest on the face and the first to show signs of ageing.
Be sure to not only get your eyes tested, but have a great pair of sunglasses to hand too! Even those with perfect vision will squint in the summer sun if you do not pop on a pair of sunnies! Make sure you sunglasses have UVA/UVB filter to keep out harmful rays and prevent sun damage around the eyes!
5. Less really is more
If you’ve already developed some lines and wrinkles on your face, layering make up on top of them isn’t going to cover them up, only make them all the more noticeable. Liquid foundations especially, will sit in the lines, cracking and creasing over the wrinkled skin and making the lines appear darker and more prominent!
Most beauty experts would suggest skipping liquid foundations altogether, opting for a lightly tinted moisturizer or powder foundation. Clever highlighting and contouring can distract from the lines too! Always go for the less is more approach, and reduce the amount of make up you wear as you age.
Wrinkles and lines will come to us all, even if we start taking anti-ageing steps from a young age. These lines are nothing to be ashamed of and should be worn with pride! Ageing gracefully and adapting our diet and skin care accordingly.
