5 Weird Phobias

Updated on April 15, 2015

1. Mageirocophobia: Fear Of Cooking

Most of the people who suffer from this phobia aren't afraid of the food itself. They are afraid of one or more elements or the possible outcomes of cooking the food. Including: Fear of causing illness, Fear of serving inedible food, presentation concerns and more common fear of the cooking itself and a fear of recipes. I think that every cook is nervous when they think about cutting themselves or my personal worry burning themselves. But we continue to cook anyway. People suffering from this phobia struggle to even boil water because of their fears. In some severe cases, people are even scared to go into their kitchen.

2. Catoptrophobia: Fear Of Mirrors

As a woman I have definitely avoided looking in a mirror at times. But for people suffering from this phobia can actually faint or scream and run away if they are even in the same room as a mirror.

3. Kathisophobia: Fear of Sitting Down

This is probably one of the most difficult phobias. If you think about how often we sit throughout the day, I can't imagine being scared every time. The thing about this phobia is people realize that their fears are irrational. But they still can have severe panic attacks, some people even vomit or have rapid heartbeat just at the thought of sitting down.

4. Genuphobia: Fear Of Knees

This is a very rare phobia, but it does exists. Genuphobia is mostly triggered by a negative experience. It can be caused by either you personally having an experience or seeing someone go through a dramatic experience with their knees. For some this phobia is just about seeing knees or showing their own knees. For instance in short or a bathing suit. For others they will not kneel because of fear of injuring their knees. But either way that can be a hard way to go through life.

5. Bibliophobia: Fear Of Books

This in my opinion would be one of the hardest phobias to have because we are introduced to books at a very young age. There are many different kinds of things people are afraid of so are afraid of stories and some are afraid of poems. Then there are some people who will pass out if forced to read a book. I feel for anyone with this disease, because books are a big part of life.

Do you know anyone suffering from one of these phobias?
