Dandruff is actually a fungus which grows primarily due the imbalance between the growth of dead and new cells on your scalp. And that imbalance is because of that fungus called malassezia globosa that feeds on oil or fat(derived from the oil) that we use or from the oil in our body (head scalp). It is also called Pityriasis Simplex Captis in medical science field. The white flaky particles, which we generally call dandruff becomes visible when the fungus feeds on the oil or fat present on the scalp and also on the dead skin cells. It causes skin cells to grow more rapidly which results in the formation of white flake.

There could be a number of reasons for dandruff. Some of the prominent reasons for dandruff are:

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is one most commonly used beauty products that can be used in almost all remedies. Aloe vera inhibits skin proliferation. In other words, it slows down the pace of the growth of new cells formation. As we know, dandruff is caused by rapid growth and dying cells, so it brings equilibrium in the life cycle of dead and new cells. All you need, take some aloe vera gel and apply it on the scalp of your head for around 15 minutes in circular motion. Leave it for 5 minutes and then wash it with a good shampoo. Do it thrice a week to see the best results.


Camphor and Coconut Oil

We all know about coconut oil as a great nourishing agent. It gives strength to our hairs with other benefits for our skin. It can also be used in controlling dandruff. Take a half cup of coconut oil and mix a teaspoon of camphor. Keep that mixture in an air tight container for your regular use. Massage your scalp and hairs with this oil everyday before going to bed. Keep going with this remedy for a couple of weeks and see the results. When you see the dandruff under control, use it every alternate day and continue as you wish.


Fenugreek (Methi)

Fenugreek is one of the plants used as spice in Indian homes. Besides this, it also has medicinal properties including treatment for dandruff. Fenugreek seeds are rich in protein and amino acids which helps in healthy growth of hairs and keeping away those dirty white flakes. It can be used very easily at your home in the form of a paste. Take two tablespoon of fenugreek seeds and soak them overnight in a cup of water. Grind them into a fine paste next morning. Now apply the paste on the scalp and leave it for 20-25 minutes. Wash it with a good shampoo for a healthy and dandruff free hairs.


Neem Leaves

Neem leaves is also one of the commonly used natural product in Indian homes. It not only treats burns and cuts, they can be used in beauty products also due to its antifungal properties. Neem leaves are very helpful in treating dandruff also. Take some neem leaves and cup of hot water. Soak neem leaves in hot water overnight. Make a paste of the neem leaves with fresh water and apply it on the scalp. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it normal water or shampoo. You can also rinse raw neem leaves on the scalp.


Baking Soda

Baking Soda can also be a great home remedy for treating dandruff. Just take 2-3 tablespoon of baking soda and massage it over your scalp (keep your hairs and scalp wet for this). Leave it for just two minutes and then immediately wash it with a good shampoo. You may see the results are time taking for this particular part, but it ensure complete washout of dandruff.


Heena

It is an age old natural conditioner for our hairs. Heena can be seen in many hair care treatment packs. Take heena as required,tea liquor and curd in a bowl. Add some lemon juice to it and mix it properly. Now leave it for about 10 hours and then apply it over your scalp and hairs thoroughly. Leave the paste for 1-2 hours and then wash it with a little shampoo.


Tulsi and Amla

A paste of tulsi and amla powder with a little yogurt can do wonders in treating dandruff. Take some tulsi leaves and one teaspoonful of amla powder. Add some yogurt and make fine paste. Now apply this paste on your scalp and massage gently in circular motion. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it away. Continue with this remedy every alternate day for couple of weeks for desired results.


Curd and Lemon

Curd and lemon can be helpful in keeping away dandruff. Take a cup of curd and add 3-4 teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix it properly and apply it on scalp and hairs. Massage for 5 minutes and then leave it for 20 minutes. After that wash it away with normal water. It clears dandruff and gives a shining look to your hairs.
