5 Ways to Make Extra Money

My Experience With Money

One of the biggest threats to our Quality of Life is stress over money. I am one who understands having few and having plenty. Growing up, money was the least of the problems in our household. Either way, I learned to hustle at a very young age.

Cashing in all our soda bottles to buy candy at the corner store. Selling candy bars for prizes at school. When we got older, we sometimes went around collecting cans and taking them to the recycling center for money. But I never considered our family to be poor. Just creative.

As a young adult, I would sign up for surveys at the local mall. Sometimes I would get called in to do a 4-hour survey, which included dinner and I made $200.00!

Then came my first marriage, and something completely changed. Though we both made decent money, we were always broke. We were poor. I learned that in some cases, one might have plenty of money and yet be poor in spirit. Funny thing is after said marriage ended I made less money but was never broke. At least, I have never felt broke.

Has my pocket book been challenged? Yes, I indeed. I just don't let it stress me out and I get to challenge my creativity once again!

This year, I am saving some change for my trip to Hawaii in June. I will be taking my Yoga teaching certification at an Ashram. This will take 21 days and I want to make sure I have plenty of extra cash on hand.

Below are a few creative opportunities to make extra cash.

Using Your Talents and Skills

Blogging

If you are passionate about something and like to write. Blogging is a good option. There are many options out there.

Hub Pages is about one the best opportunities out there to make money. Though keep in mind, making money is slow at first. If you are lucky, you will post a blog that goes viral. But keep realistic expectations.

Offering Unique Online Services

Fiverr.com

This is a fun sight that you can offer up just about any kind of service for $5.00 a gig. You can offer to review someone's website or send melted chocolate to someone's ex on Valentine's Day!

Affiliate Programs

If you have an active blog or website there are several affiliate programs that cater to just about every niche. You will want to make sure the programs you choose are applicable to you niche.

You will also want to do plenty of research about any company you choose to affiliate your brand with. Review their About page, Mission Statement, and Core Values.

A few women's programs I have looked into are:

Simple Beauty Minerals.com

This is a brilliant site that offers good quality mineral makeup and offers what they call "Honest Marketing". Their photos are never touched up and they use "Real" women of various size and color!

Sivana.com

Sivana offers good quality Yoga wear, accessories, and spiritual gift items.

Fabletics

Co-founded by Kate Hudson, this site offers quality active wear at affordable prices.

On-line Saving and Rebate Programs

Credit Card Rewards

If you have a credit card that offers rewards like Capital One Quicksilver, set up a budget to use this card for purchases. I include groceries, gas and other budgeted items. The key is to pay your bill in full at the end of the month. Many credit cards offer no interest charges when you pay for your expenses within the first month of purchase.

Ebates

A must have for the online shopper. Ebates has a fabulous app which will pop out and let you know if there is an opportunity to receive a percentage back from any purchases on the shopping site you are visiting! Just click on "Activate" and you are set.

You receive a percentage of each purchase on a quarterly basis. You may cash it in the form of PayPal credit, which you may then have transferred to your checking account. My usual return is about $50.00 every three months. Not too shabby. Don't forget to use your credit card that offers rewards if applicable.

Swagbucks

Swagbucks is very similar to Ebates. Though you have more options to make Swagbucks by watching videos, downloading apps, and completing surveys and questionnaires. You will also find that there are some shopping sites that Swagbucks covers and Ebates doesn't. This is why I have both apps.

The Swagbucks app is similar to the Ebates app. All you have to do is activate the offer to get your Swagbucks. You don't have to wait every quarter, however. To receive a $25.00 Pay Pal credit, all you need is 2,500 Swagbucks. You can also cash in for gift cards to stores and restaurants.

Raise.com

This website sells unused gift cards or gift cards with balances left on them at a reduced cost. For instance, you can purchase a $45.00 Shell gas card at a reduced price of $42.00.

My true story about Swagbucks, Raise, and my Capital One Quicksilver Rewards card: Swagbucks offers one Swagbuck for each dollar spent on Raise. I used my Capital One Quicksilver Rewards card to purchase a gas card, Walgreen's gift card and a Jiffy Lube card (my car was due). I paid a total of $130.00 for all three but only paid $120.00. This means I got $10 free money to spend at these stores.

In addition, I received 130 Swag bucks and 1.5% back on my Capital One Quicksilver rewards card! Creativity.

Global Test Market.com

If you love talking about yourself and giving opinions, this is a reliable site to click on without worrying about all those pop-out offers. You will have the opportunity to collect your earnings in the form of PayPal credit, department store gift cards and restaurants. This one comes in handy during the holidays.

Selling Used Designer Clothing

Not only can you save money by buying used designer clothing, there are many shops that purchase your used designer clothing and shoes.

Plato's Closet is available in many different cities and states. This is a good place to cash in those impulse buys that don't exactly work for you as originally intended.

In addition, there are many local clothing consignment shops as well as clothing exchanges. You might even host a clothing exchange party for your friends and coworkers.

Keeping Focus

One word of caution: It is easy to get caught up in the idea of saving money, causing another kind of stress and you will want to avoid this.

Keep your focus, stick to your budget and don't forget to have fun! For we complicate just about any process when we become too serious or rigid.
