9 Things To Do That Will Bring Instant Happiness Even In Depression

Updated on September 4, 2016

Feeling down from time to time is a normal part of life, but when emotions such as hopelessness and despair take hold and just won't go away, you may have depression.

When you have depression, it's more than feeling sad. Intense feelings of sadness and other symptoms, like losing interest in things you enjoy, may last for a while. Depression is a medical illness, not a sign of weakness. And it's treatable.

Depression makes it tough to function and enjoy life like you once did. Just getting through the day can be overwhelming. But no matter how hopeless you feel, you can get better.

It is very helpful to express your feelings on paper. This gives you a sense of control, because often when depressed, we have thoughts and feelings overwhelming us. Writing helps your give an honest approach, and helps you somewhat organize the most prominent and negative feelings. Next, it is helpful to analyze those feelings, and assess what the origin of that negative feeling is, finally, list ways that you can change the origin of that feeling.

Try to see the funny side of situations and you'll often be able to cope better. Humor have a way of making worries seem less important. Doing things that you enjoy is also good for your emotional well being. Doing something you're good at, such as cooking or dancing, is a good way to enjoy yourself and have a sense of achievement. Try to avoid things that seem enjoyable at the time but make you feel worse afterwards, such as drinking too much alcohol or eating junk food.

Look Through Old Photographs

Happy times can also give you joy when you are not feeling so happy. Take out your old pictures and go through them, when you are feeling sad. It will surely fill you with cherished memories, few laughs leave you feeling grateful for good times of your life.

The use of old photos, items and films can provide a way for people to feel comforted by objects that are familiar to them. This new research shows that it could also be an effective treatment for people with depression or anxiety. The act of self-soothing is an essential tool in helping people to calm down.

Read Quotes From The Greats

Purpose of the quote is to pass on the experience ans wisdom by those who have lived their lives to them who are living. There are a lot of people who like to read quotes. I mean inspiring and enlightening quotes about different topics. People like to read quotes, because these are concise sentences, expressing wisdom, and awakening motivation, inspiration and happiness.

You can find quotes on your favorite subject like sports, travel, beauty or anything else. They are drops of wisdom concentrated into one or a few sentences, which can bring light and understanding into the soul of the reader. They have the power to awaken hope, faith and inner strength, and also ambition and motivation.

As they say motivation does not last long, so does the bath. So motivate yourself as often as you can. Every day and multiple times a day.

Watch Inspiring YouTube video

Watching an inspiring video cheers up even the saddest of person. There are so many funny and inspiring videos online. You tube should be your treasure for this one. Look up for any subject you are curious about, makes you happy or just watch someone else's journey through life. You will learn how our lives are so much similar. We all face huge negative setbacks and events. But looking at some one else path through all the troubles into beautiful experiences will surely make you feel better.

When someone else shares his life story it is worth watching how people overcome negative and live life of their dreams. What better can you find than an inspiring video of World's Biggest Movie Star himself talking honestly about his life. ( He is one gem of a person and his story is not a lie trust me, you'll know it for yourself )

What Better Than Listening To Worlds Biggest Movie Star Himself

Watch Your Favorite Comedy

Watch a funny movie or spend time with someone who has a good sense of humor. Laughing releases tension and has a natural ability to heal.

Research has shown that the mere physical act of smiling, without actually feeling like it, triggers internal biological reactions that stimulate emotions and contribute to a better mood – in you and others. In other words, when you feel down, fake a big fat smile and you will lighten up automatically. But be careful, it also works the other way around, so remember to keep smiling. Set yourself up for laughing by watching a good comedy. You will eventually feel happy and light when you watch it.

Depression can leave you with little interest in anything. But sometimes when you're feeling down, there's no easier pick-me-up than a comedy. Trust me you will be addicted. ( I once stumbled into comedy video and started watching it, when it finished i started the other one. And i ended up laughing so much that i forgot even if i was sad earlier. I was but forgot everything after watching comedy videos ). Leave everything behind and laugh.

Practice Gratitude

Practice genuine gratitude on a daily basis can be the major source of healing in life. When you step back and notice everything you can be grateful for, you will see what you were missing when you choose to be sad. The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless.

People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.

And gratitude doesn't need to be reserved only for momentous occasions: Do it every day if you're feeling sad or not. It will hard wire your brain to be more positive through life in all situations positive or negative.

Talk to people from your happier times or who makes you happy/laugh

It is easy to be a recluse, and hold feeling inside while one is depressed. You must talk to people/person who you completely trust, who will make you feel comfortable and happy. Do not bottle your feelings out of fear that you would be judged if I talked about them. Even if you can not or don't want to share your actual situation or feelings then don't. But still talk to someone who truly cares about you. I’ve since learned that reaching out to a loving, understanding person is one of the best things I can do.

Get back in touch with an old friend or a family member that you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Reconnecting with people almost always will put you in a good mood and fills heart up with love.

Daydreaming, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a pleasant visionary usually wishful creation of the imagination,” and by that definition, it is proving to be like a mini-vacation that carries with it more than just a handful of scientifically proven benefits.

There are two main systems in your brain: the decision-making analytic part and the relatable empathetic part. When you get really involved in one, there isn’t much room for the other to play. Daydreaming allows for a natural and fluid, almost cyclical movement between these two parts of your brain, turning one on and the other on and off as it imagines. So off the negative and put on the positive for a while.

Take a mental vacation. Let your mind wander. Take leave from your stress worries heartbreaks and bad memories for a while. And think about what best you would like to do in life, your dreams. Imagine all good things you can think of.

While you can’t force yourself to have fun or experience pleasure, you can push yourself to do things, even when you don’t feel like doing them. You will be surprised at how much better you feel once you’re out in the world. Even if your depression doesn’t lift immediately, you’ll gradually feel more upbeat and energetic as you make time for fun activities.

Music is healing. Music is very powerful. Listen to type of music you like or check to see what works for you. A soothing version or a pumped up song. Music can heal, put you in a better mood, make you feel less alone, or take you on a mental journey. Even better watch a good movie, as it will transport you into another world away from your current situation. And who knows when you return you might feel better and more stronger than stress you are having.

Try to look at the bigger picture

Often depression arises from focusing too much on negative happenings in our life. Depression needs closed mind ( which does not see total picture of life ) and negative set of emotions to grow. Quite often knowingly or unknowingly we give that and as a result start and progress of depression takes place. Admit it or not we all have good side too in our lives. So learn to see both good and bad side instead of just brooding over negative.

Looking at the big picture of life not only balances out negative happenings in our lives but also gives us reality check to see where our strengths and weaknesses lies. So always remember every single persons life will have positive and negative happenings in life, so do you. Try to learn from negative experiences and never loose positivity and hope. Negative thinking will only add to your problems. Look around for inspiration in your relations, neighbor hood, workplace, friends life or even celebrities lives. They are also not perfect.

But everyone just picks themselves up and move forward with positivity.
