A Combination of Fish Oil and Vitamin D for a Healthy Being

Updated on June 1, 2012

It is good that one obtains nutrients from fresh food but it seems impossible with the lifestyle we have. That is the reason why dietary supplements are manufactured and being sold in the markets. Taking dose of adequate supplement is helpful for the body especially nutrients that are highly beneficial and prevent diseases which is normal to acquire with today's generation.

Two of the food supplements that are worth considering and will surely of great help for you are fish oil and vitamin D. fish oil is rich in omega-3 that is good for the heart while vitamin D is commonly known as vitamin for the skin. There were much studies conducted showing the benefits from these two nutrients. Vitamin D and fish oil with high level of omega-3 fatty acids gives nutrients that are good for the skin, bones, heart, and brain. The combination of these two nutrients is also good in preventing stroke, cancer, and heart attack.

Fish oil and vitamin D come from different sources. Fish oil can be obtained from taking fish meal such as anchovy, mackerel, and sardine or taking the said pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplement that is available in the markets. On the other hand, vitamin D comes from exposing one's self to the sun for several hours. There are five types of vitamins and these are simply known as vitamins D1 to D5. The most beneficial among these five is vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Vitamin D3 is obtained by exposing the body to the sunlight 10-15 minutes every day. Longer exposure to the sun is not ideal for it may cause skin problems.

There are lots of benefits to gain from vitamin D. Like omega-3 fatty acids, its purpose on one's health is of great important. Vitamin D is needed for sustenance of strong bones; it regulates the immune system and prevents colds especially for children; it is found out that this vitamin keeps the brain healthy and works well. Vitamin D is also good to maintain body weight. It reduces the risk of rheumatoid arthritis in women. And like those who take fish oil supplement, people who take vitamin D have low risk of developing cancer.

This only shows how essential fish oil and vitamin D are in the body. If you take good care of your heart, you should take good care of your skin and other parts of the body to have longer and healthier life.

Excellent hub. If you suffer from brittle bone disease Vitamin D and fish oil is a match made in heaven. I have used this great combination treatment for osteoporosis for the last ten years and the results are amazing.

Hi Raj...thought I was going to have to go and buy vitamin D supplements now...you´ve already got me on fish oil, but as I live in Spain there´s no need. Good advice for when I move back to the UK though. Thanks.
