A Hangover cure that really works.

Updated on April 5, 2011

Everyone has been there at least once. Have you ever drank one too many the night before? And now you have a hangover so bad that you think you might die. Or better yet, it would be better all together if you did die. Your head feels like it's spiting open, mouth is dry, you feel week, hot, chilled, your sweating, and you are spinning so bad that you don't even think you will be able to get water down.

Lets face it, when we feel like this it shows on the outside too. And if you ever been in this position, I bet people have come up to you with their hangover cures. They could range from good old common sense to off the wall weirdness you don't think you would ever try. Well have no fear, the real Hangover cure is here.

1. Take Ibuprofen or a painkiller with a big glass of water before hitting the hay.

You might not always remember this step. But it really gets a head start on killing the dreaded hangover. If your hangover is bad enough sometimes you will not be able to even drink any water in the morning without having it come right back up. So remember to hydrate the night before. Maybe if you are going to a celebration/party where you know there is going to be a lot of drinking (wedding, new year's etc.) write yourself a note. Make sure to put it in plan sight where you wont miss it. Or even set up the glass of water and pain killers. This is especially true for those that don't drink as often. If you feel it might be one of those nights is better to be prepared.

2. Sleep a full 8-9 hours if you can.

Your body needs to rest even more then usual if you have been drinking. Sleeping is the time that your body takes to recalibrate, refresh and heal. And you really need all three.

3. Take a shower right when you get up.

Taking a shower will refresh you. It will also relax muscles that are tense from dehydration. You will also feel and smell a lot better. Even tho this might seem so routine and mundane, it is a very important step. If you feel, look and smell better on the outside you will feel better on the inside too.

4. Take the holy trinity; vitamin water Revive, 5 hour energy, and Ibuprofen (or another painkiller)

It may sound kind of like a commercial advertisement, but don't knock it. I stumbled across this combination and they work really well together. The vitamin water Revive will rehydrate you and give you much needed electrolytes. 5 hour energy is all the other vitamins you need to give you a boost plus a little caffeine. Just enough caffeine to help with the headache but not enough to upset your stomach. Plus liquid vitamins go right into your system replenishing everything your body needs after the beating you gave it. The pain killers are just as important in the morning as at night. The ones you took last night may have good head start on kicking your hangovers butt, but believe me if you are hungover, you will still have a killer headache.

5. Eat something as soon as you get any hunger pang.

You might not think you are able to keep anything down, but your body knows better. If it is sending a hungry single, provide sustenance. Its best to go with something starchy. However if nothing starchy looks good, go with your gut. Not only pregnant people get cravings. Cravings are there for a reason. Your body is telling you that it needs one of the main ingredients badly. So If you use cravings wisely they can actually help you.

Next time you go out drinking. Remember this article. Try it out. I am sure that you will be glad that you did. And remember to drink responsibly. Please always have a designated driver. And if you need this remedy more then once a week you might want to slow down.

Happy drinking!

Great Hub! The "Holy Trinity" idea is a good one. I don't drink hard liquor so I don't get a hangover if I have a beer here and there. Good idea though!

It was almost 15 years now since I last got wasted (i'm not planning on having a relapse though). I usually take lots of liquid and fruit shakes to replenish lost liquid, vitamins and minerals. Sleeping also works.

Thank you kittythedreamer. I was sure that a lot of people would know about hydrating. The real key is to do every step. If every step in the article is taken your hangover should be very slight and should be non-existent by the time you are done eating. If I use the cure, I usually have my hangover gone right after the holy trinity. Thank you for commenting!

didn't know about the holy trinity of revive, 5 hour energy, and ibuprofen. sounds like a winning combination so i might have to try it out next time i have a hangover. the water suggestion is a BIG one. i have found that if i choose to drink water in between drinks the night before, i have way less of a hangover the next day. it's the whole hydration thing...if your body is dehydrated, you will get a headache. thanks for sharing!
