A Healthier You, In Haiku
Need to be moving?
Breakfast, first food for the day
Better than caffeine.
*******
Need a break from work?
Eat lean foods to restore you.
Lunch Breaks- Essential.
***********
Now time to relax
Workday is finally done.
Salad with supper.
******************
Why am I hungry?
I did eat a balanced meal.
***********
Gained a pound today.
I did not eat any snacks.
Must be that latte.
*********
Want to stay alert?
Reaching for that cup of Joe?
**************
Elevator's quick.
But my thighs are thicker now.
Better walk up those stairs.
**********
Seafood better than steak.
Five fruits and veggies daily
Cut down carbs and fats.

Healthier Changes Improve Lifestyle
As a nurse and a poet, this writer decided to be more creative using the poetic form of haiku to get the points across. These are simple steps to become heathier. Eating leaner meals, making sure that exercise becomes a routine, even if it means taking the stairs instead of the elevator is a major help to keep the body's organs healthy. Meal breaks are for a purpose, so eating balanced proportions, and not binging on fast foods will keep the blood sugar and the metabolism in tune.
As always, good advice is to contact your physician or health worker before any drastic changes to your daily habits occur. Starting gradually into new exercise habits helps, and giving up certain foods such as caffeine should be a weaning process as well, so not to have that crash and burn feeling.
Be an investigator when you choose your foods too. Those nutritional labels are for a reason.
Enjoy what you eat and enjoy what you do for physical fitness. And share the experience with the whole family. Children are just as prone to body fat as adults. Making exercise and food preparation a family activity makes meal time and play time more fun.
