A Sense of Gratitude, A Gesture of Appreciation
Sense of Gratitude
We all know 21st September is celebrated as world gratitude day to express appreciation for those who have done a lot for our lives. Well, in a world where we are a dependent-lot, quite difficult to figure out exactly the number of persons who have favored us. Right from family to social-network, from an employer to one-time co-passenger, from a little known person to an unknown one, there are many whom we are highly indebted. In our lives there we find certain people, whose appreciation is beyond the words and material things, simply we find ourselves obscured under their favors.
What is the sense of Gratitude? I am not here to consume your precious time by explaining a known factor and a common attitude. But there is always a benefit in refreshing certain important aspect of our lives. In fact the process of refreshment sometimes rejuvenates us to realize the realities of life. Gratitude is the reflection of one’s soul, the relationship between man and his attitude of appreciation is same as the correlation between flower and its blissful fragrance, fruit and its sweetness and earth and its fertility. The sense of gratitude is human nature and gets reflected whenever a good deed is done, without any delay. What we express phrases like ‘Oh my God’, ‘by God’, ‘thanks God’, ‘praise be to God’….are just inner voices of gratitude that emerge all of a sudden. We are not sure of the origin of these phrases, but it seems they are the words of appreciation that the soul pronounces sometimes out of joy and sometimes out of concern.
There are many people who have done a lot for us, to the humanity and to the world. It is highly impossible to convey words of appreciation for all and exactly in a way that suits them. But, from bottom of our heart we express gratitude towards one and all who have done marvelous for the cause of humanity, in the past and present. My list of appreciation goes this way; I am highly indebted to these personalities who have hugely influenced my life.
My existence in the world speaks of my parents, what I am today just because of them. The intense love, sacrifices and a complete dedication, is the hallmark of their very existence. Just saying thanks mom and dad for all your love and affection, is far below their majesty. The only way of expression is an attitude of veneration, sacrifice of the belongings, providing an all-time comfort, looking always with wistful eyes and feeling a sense of pleasure in their service. Especially my mother deserves a lot, I am not aware of what pain she had gone through when I was under her womb for nine long months? There is no instrument that could measure and bring those feelings and sufferings into my notice for my gratitude to be an articulation of all that.
What is your expression of gratitude towards your parents
“Loads of reverence, plenty of love, elevated obedience and an all-pervading attitude as a gratitude to my parents, even then mom and dad, I feel, my sense of gratitude falls short to meet your majesty”
Ever since I got admitted in school, from thereon till the college life, I spend most of the time with my teachers. Some say, a student spends more time with teachers than the parents. Quite true. There are so many teachers who have influenced me and my thoughts. Every word of mine is indebted to their noble approach and effective mentoring. What strikes me about my teacher is their joy over my performance; their facial expressions always gave an impression that our good performance is a perfect compliment for their qualification. I never knew how to hold the pen, she taught me how to caught hold, I know little about the sacredness of books, would tear the pages here and there, she taught me its importance. Now other’s open my book to go through the thoughts that have been penned down by the hands that were quite unaware of its usage. She advised me to gaze the sky and look at the beautiful stars, now accolades of star brighten my carrier.
“I express, with heaps of respect and honor, just a few reverential words for my teacher, I am what you have taught, will be what you have dream”
The Power of Appreciation
Usually people think of strengthening their marital ties in view of the age-old saying “marriages are made in heaven”. There is neither evidence nor any scientific proof to strengthen the fact, but we believe. As the time passes, I realized its meaning. I got my wife harmonized with my strength and weaknesses. Every day increased her understanding of ‘me’. I feel the comfort; I prefer companionship of my wife. The way she understands my feelings, the way her love and affection binds me and make me cry and laugh and stay united, gave a sense of heavenly realization. I have realized that bonding between husband and wife must form on the basis of intense love for each other; else the bonding becomes an artificial binding. Today I am confident man not because of my strengths rather my wife has swathed my weakness with her strengths. I feel blessed in serving her, keeping her happy, putting morsel in her mouth, fulfilling her tiniest wish and of course shouldering her in house responsibilities.
“Loads of appreciation to my better half, who with her love and affection, made my life better, with her caring and sharing attitude, inspired me strive hard to realize the dreams"
My relatives are my extension; it seems as if my organs have been spread over in the form of human beings with different forms of relationships, my uncles, aunties, cousin brothers and sisters and their children. It’s a huge tree; every branch represents an elder one whereas the leaves are his offspring. All of them have played a role in my life. Some of them have hugely influenced and some were quite moderate, but when it comes to mutual love and cooperation I find most of them in the same line. What makes this relationship to be genuine is “an attitude of liberality towards kith and kin”. A family comprises of relatives must resemble a society, wherein the relatives must show kindness and generosity to their kith and kin; same as the way dwellers of society get help from the machineries. Blessed are those who have been bestowed with such relatives.
“Lots of appreciation to the relatives for their generous attitude, that helped their own-people get a dignified life and refrain from going to street.”
To me a friend in life is what a pillar to a building. Without the support of friends, the ups and downs of life are hard to tolerate. Some friends make me realize the true happiness with their company. A few friends lend their selfless support at the testing times. Some friends offer honest suggestions to meet certain expectations. With a long time meaningful camaraderie with them, now I feel my friends within me, their thoughts, their reflections, their caring concerns, and their timely advice are invaluable treasure, it’s so dearest to me; it guides me and provides me light when in darkness.
“To all my friends, a reflection of their own appreciates outstanding support and feel blessed to be a friend.”
The men and women in uniforms, miles away from family and home, guarding the borders in dust and cold, in harsh winter and scorching heat, are none but our brave soldiers. Their night vigilance helps us sleep with comfort. Their day vigilance helps in our social endeavor. Their sacrifice towards the cause of nation and country deserves a rousing salute. No matter to which country they belong, the bordering areas, the fencing and barricades are the commons that they share, the sufferings and grief of family members and a sense of absenteeism is also the same. All are humans, their deployment at an almost deserted place, gives a silent message to the entire humanity, the heart of a soldier conveys, when everyone loves peace and hates war, then why is that our numbers are growing? Why is that the expenditure on us is more than the expenditure on some of the basic needs of the citizens? Nevertheless, their existence means a lot, with a hope of comfort and peace, let us be grateful to the brave sons and daughters.
“Our deepest sense of gratitude to the soldiers, courteous appreciation for their legs for vigilant round offs, a grand tribute to their eyes for spending sleepless nights, and loads of accolades for an untiring passion to safeguard country and the countrymen”
Appreciation and Gratitude
Society is an extension of a home, the role of an elder at home is same as the role of a political leader in a society. The way father or the patron of home fulfills the need of the dwellers of home; same is expected of leader that he will put his tireless efforts to fulfill the requirements of the inhabitants, kudos to the leaders who strive hard for others as they strive for themselves, who are as selfless as for their own family members.
“Great words of appreciation for those leaders who have made the society a place to live in and fearlessly fought with all odds that threatened the peace, prosperity and progress of the society”.
I salute to the daring and dashing journo who, fight tooth and nail to bring the just news, whose efforts are white that makes the ‘yellow journalism’ shy. The advancement in electronic media doesn’t minimize the role of an honest, sensible and responsible journalist; rather ‘round the clock media’ trends have enormously increased their burden. To work tirelessly and bring out the truth out of a complex web of falsehood and conspiracies is indeed a great job. We appreciate those members of the press-community whose just efforts helped us glued to television and fasten with the news-papers and magazines.
“Regards to the journos, whose honest and sensible approach have provided our eyes with the real pictures of the world and helped form our own opinion about betterment of society”
The world gets inspiration from those who have set an example of selfless service. We know a very few of them, Mother Teresa, Florence Nightingale, Richard Cloward and Gandhiji…there are many men and women who have contributed both as a scholar and as an activist. The world pays homage to the heroes. We do appreciate and acknowledge them all for their outstanding services. Now on this occasion let us remember those unsung heroes, whose selfless service gone into the pages of history. Even today there are many more such humble persons active in their own surroundings. Their noble efforts have brought smiles on faces and wiped tears from the eyes; God knows better their actual numbers and efforts.
“Loads of appreciation for all those selfless workers of our time, undeniably their presence is like a cold breeze that helps breathless to breath, our respectful tribute to those people who have gone setting an ideal of ‘good humans for humanity”
The dust and the garbage pose constant threats to our health, being in command; we are simply unable to solve the problem. But it’s the services of a sweeper that provides respite, fresh aired premises, an office of pleasant ambience and streets neat and clean, though he earns his butter with his services, but that mean a lot to us. But sometimes this aspect gets neglected as Cynthia Ozick describes “We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude”. The reality is, had if there were no ups and downs of social strata; problems like this would have never been solved.
“We respect the profession that help earn with own hands, we appreciate their work, sweepers are not mean but a mean that let us live neat and clean”.
Being human we do need help, sometimes when among our own people and sometimes at an unknown place, be it a journey or when we lost something during a journey or when we lost our way that goes to our destination. The one time-help of an unknown person makes a lot of difference. There are people in our life who have spend millions of bucks on us, but the help of an unknown at a crucial time is above everything. The silent services of such righteous souls communicate directly that timely help builds a society of our dream.
“Loads of appreciation to the services of the unknown who made us realized the reality of dependency and inspire us to lend helping hand to those who depend on us”
Gratitude Towards the Nature
Living & Non-Living Things
George Colman once said “praise the bridge that carried you over”, so true. There are many non-living things that need our appreciation, though they have no senses to realize it, but when we appreciate them our soul gets a kind of serenity. Let us express a heartfelt appreciation to:
- the heaven for hanging as a canopy on our heads
- the sun for its precise rise and set.
- the moon for its increasing and decreasing movements.
- the mountains that provide balance for a revolving earth.
- the earth that carries us.
- the ocean that subjected for food and commerce.
- the forests that maintain ecological balance.
- the desert that helps humans, animals and the environment.
- the breeze that flows to make our lives easy.
- the soil that help our vegetation grow.
- the roof and walls of our home that make our living so pleasant.
- the trees that provide lively shadow and delicious fruits.
- the river that flows beneath our feet, from behind our resorts, from within the valley of a mountain.
- the sweet water that quench our thirst.
- the vehicle that carries us.
- the mobile and computer…that help accomplish our task.
- the pen, the book, the table and chair that facilitate us in reading and writing.
Living & Non-Living Things
“When I appreciate their presence, I feel an unexplainable relationship with them; their existence seems to be as dear to me as that of my own people. This way my mind get illuminated with a secret that loving creatures help form an enduring relationship with them and with their Creator and that set right my attitude, for me slogans like save water, save forest, save environment appears to be a reminder for my own self”
God, The Almighty
Of course, last but not the least, a deepest sense of gratitude to our Merciful Lord, who is the Creator, Sustainer and Cherisher of the worlds. He gave us sense of understanding and shower on us innumerable blessings that is hard to calculate them. He provided with eyes to reflect, ears to heed to the good and heart to understand the realities. We are overloaded with sense of gratitude. Neither our tongue nor our words are competent enough for His praise; He is as He has described Himself.
Praise be to God
“Thanks to the Almighty, who blessed us everything that needed, All praise belongs to You as much as befits Your Glory and Sublime Majesty”
Let me conclude the journey of appreciation with the words of John F Kennedy “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them”. Let us refresh the very spirit and live by the words of appreciation.
