A list of Recumbent exercise bike for weight loss

Updated on April 5, 2015

Why a recumbent exercise bike?

A stationary recumbent bike is the best way to lose some weight while indoors. When the winter season comes is nearly impossible to go out for a run or even for a simple walk. During this time many people tend to subscribe to gyms, do some yoga or do exercises at home. One of the best and fastest ways to keep fit while indoors is of course is the exercise bike. But, I personally do not like the ordinary stationary upright bike.

That kind of bicycle has its strong points but is not compared to a recumbent bike regarding comfort. Below I have included a list of the best recumbent exercise bike that in my opinion are the best in terms of price, comfort, space usage and performance. The recumbent exercise bike is one of the most comfortable stationary bikes for indoor riding. It is broadly used by seniors with spinal issues or for therapeutic reasons. But, it can be used only for the strong reason of maintaining healthy posture while exercising.

Turning a ten minutes bicycle ride into a hardcore painful torture is probably not the right way to have a healthy lifestyle. A recumbent bike is an ergonomically designed bike that offers comfort while training. I have to state that the strongest point of it is the comfort. But, this not the only strong point. In fact it can make you shed some extra weight in the same way that an upright bike does. Of course, with comfort and performance usually comes a high price to pay. Generally a recumbent bike costs from $200 to more than $800. Usually this kind of bike is meant for people with medical conditions. That is the reason why the sitting chair looks like the most comfortable "throne" in the world.

A lot of people think that they do not need a recumbent bike. Why to pay a high a price for a cycling machine that might help with weight loss? In fact you can find an ordinary one for the half of the price but you cannot find a comfortable one. This is what a recumbent bike does it relaxes the body and relieves stress from the bottom of the spinal cord to the neck.

Exerpeutic 2000 programmable magnetic

Exerpeutic is the first brand of recumbent bike that I have listed in this article. Exerpeutic has a long story of training bicycles for indoor riding that involve high comfort and happy costumers. The best model is the exerpeutic 2000 with an affordable price of $299 and particularly comfortable and soft seat. The seat of the bike is designed by the Air soft seat made of soft material and it has individual air chambers that look like honeycomb to disperse weight. This bike can easily hold and disperse up to 300 lbs of body weight. And it is adjustable for any kind of body weight and height.

What I like more about this bike is the easy to use program pad. It has only four buttons and a screen. How much easier can it get? It has in total 6 preset workout programs for a more targeted training goal. It can track heart rate thanks to its pulse trackers which are situated in each handlebar. Also, it has a very high capacity magnetic cycle motor that enables different levels of difficulty. There are 8 levels of magnetic tension difficulty on this recumbent bicycle, but you do not have to go up to the eighth. The eighth level is for very advanced workout sessions. Personal trainers suggest to go up to the fourth or fifth level of difficulty if you are an absolute beginner.

The exerpeutic 2000 comes with pre installed parts. This means that you do not have to be an "engineer" to be able to properly install it. But installation is not only the fun and simple part. The program set pad has a special place for holding a smartphone or tablet. So you can exercise while working or browsing the internet. This recumbent bike requires a small space of your room to be operative. It has 54 inches large, 22 inches wide, 34 inches height with a total weight of 63 lbs.

Schwinn A20 recumbent exercise bike

While exerpeutic 2000 is focused on comfort and body muscles relaxation the Schwinn recumbent bike is focused on high performance. The Schwinn A20 is manufactured with a very durable metal frame in order to make it nearly impossible to be damaged. I think that this is the reason why the manufacturers have given a 2 years warranty for the bike frame. With this being said, the weight that this east can take is definitely more than 300 lbs of total capacity.

The Schwinn recumbent bike has eight different levels of magnetic resistance. And 7 workout programs that can be programmed through a particularly large front LCD monitor. At first might be a little bit confusing to use because it can track nearly anything. It can track speed, distance, time, heart rate, calories burned. The A20 has a very wide pair of cycling pedals that makes it impossible for your feet to slip out while workout. And all these features come with a decent price of $249.

Even though it is the strongest recumbent exercise bike that you might find on the market it is not the most comfortable. In fact the seat has no special cushions whatsoever. But I have to say that it is ergonomically designed to support a lot of weight. After some minutes of exercising you will not feel any discomfort except for the obvious loss of weight. Also, the Schwinn A20 exercise stationary bike has two rotating wheels that make it easy to move around the house. I am saying "easy" because it has a total body weight of 70 pounds. Even if you do not have much space you can use a small corner of your room utilizing only 50" x 64" of space.

Velocity exercise magnetic resistance

From the price point of view the Velocity exercise magnetic recumbent bike is probably the least expensive. Even though it contains pretty much anything a recumbent bike needs it costs $149.99. But, the low price is not the only reason I have listed it in this article. This bike has comes with a five year warranty and technical support. A hazardous decision from the velocity manufacturers I might say. Since the velocity exercising bike manufacturers have at least 30 years of successful history I think that they can permit themselves to give that kind of warranty.

As I said the velocity bike has every single feature of an ordinary one. The eight levels of preset resistance are the possible to a magnetic type functioning cycle motor. It has various tracking possibilities. This implies that it can track time, hand pulse, distance calories burned and ODO. All the tracked date is displayed in real time on a LCD display monitor which is easy to read and operate. The body of the Velocity exercise bike has a total weight 63 pounds and it comes in black and silver grey colors.

Incorporated in the body of this machine there are to small wheels that make it easier to lift and relocate the bike. Being a particularly small bicycle it needs a small space of the room. In fact, it is 38 inches large, 53 inches wide, 24 inches height. The only thing that I would love this bike to have is a proper adjustable seat, which is more comfortable to seat on. In the end that is what a recumbent bike is all about, comfort. But, at this price you cannot have everything you want.

Nautilus R614 recumbent bike

The Nautilus recumbent exercise bike has the most unique built in programs. With a dual LCD monitor it enables you to keep track in real time of the body functionality. This monitor has an integrated fan with 3 speed levels and two built in acoustic speakers. A dual LCD monitor is not the only great thing about this bike. In fact, from the moment you purchase it you will notice the high tech and ergonomically designed body structure of the R614. This bike is made of very durable parts that guarantee stability and comfort while training.

This bike used to be very expensive and a privilege that you could find only in fitness programs or gyms. But, now the price has gone way down, it costs $399.99 instead of $699 if it is ordered online. It has a special charging USB port that lets the user connect with the application in order to keep track of the workout goals. In terms of comfort I have to say that the vented type seat back and bottom will make you feel like you are flying. This bike has in total 22 programs of training from light pedaling to heavy the "rolling hills". Also, it has 20 different resistance levels that help with weight loss on the desired pace. This bike can be used and keep track of calories burned, heart rate, time of two different user profiles.

The nautilus R614 supports a body weight of up to 300 lbs. It has an adjustable seat that can be changed at any time for a comfortable indoor bike ride. What I like about this recumbent bike is the fact that it is very compatible and it is very easy to exercise and watch TV at the same time. This is so because the monitor does not block the sight. The R614 has a total weight of 98 pounds which in my opinion is a little bit heavy, but it can be moved around the house easily thanks to its incorporated wheels.

How to Adjust a Recumbent Exercise Bike to Work Different Muscle Groups : Indoor Cycling

Diamondback 510SR fitness

The 510SR model of diamondback offers the option of performance, comfort and liability at particularly fair price. The 510SR costs about $799 if you order it online. But, do not be discouraged about the price because it is worth it. The most impressive thing about this recumbent bike is that it has a limited lifetime warranty for every single part of the bike. The technical support of diamondback will be at your doorstep for every single issue.

This bike has a very strong body structure almost looking like a workout "monster packed with steroids" ready to go. But it offers a very smooth ride at the same time. In fact it is so silent that you will not even notice that you are riding a recumbent bike. Everything about it inspires stability for long hours of training without being disturbed. It has 20 workout programs with 16 different levels of resistance. It can track various body functions and give real time feedback through it LCD display monitor. The monitor is equipped with pre installed apps for a quick start riding, has mp3 connectivity with speaker and cooling fan.

Also the 510SR has an adjustable sculptured seat and body for every type of body height. The thing that I love about diamondback is the fact that they design very easy to use fitness bikes. This means that you do not have to lift your leg in order to seat. I guess that this is very good news for anyone that has movement issues. This bike can take a total weight of 350 lbs and can be easily adjusted for someone from 6'5" and below.

Marcy recumbent magnetic cycle

The Marcy brand is probably the least complicated to use recumbent exercise bike that you might find on the market. There is not so much to discover about this magnetic cycling machine in terms of functions. If you have a look at the picture on the side you will see that the monitor is very small and has only one yellow button with four keys. Maybe this is why you have to pay only $175 to get it. Do not be fooled by the low price because Marcy recumbent bike has the primary features that an average person needs for steady weight loss.

The screen works with AA batteries and enables you to keep track of speed, time, calories burned and odometer. It has eight preset levels of magnetic resistance. It is very easy to use and two start the workout sessions thanks to its step through frame design. The seat and back are comfortable enough to deliver a proper sensation of relaxation. So the back does not hurt during or after the exercise. The only thing that I do not like about the seat is the fact that it is not adjustable.

The only adjustable thing about the Marcy recumbent bike is the part below the feet paddles. This way it is possible for anyone to exercise being them tall or short. Marcy recumbent bike brand offers a two year manufactures warranty that involves technical support for the frame and body of the bike.

I like the recumbent bikes, but I still prefer the elliptical.
