Approaching Fitness From a Different Angle

So, 2018 is literally around the corner (at the time of this writing) and as you look back to January of this year, you find that you're either pleasantly surprised with how well you stuck with your fitness goals or you may not want to look back to the beginning of the year. Whatsoever may be the case, fret not because this article will guide you through several strategies that you can begin implementing today in order to experience new levels of Vitality and well-being in the coming year.

Meditation gives you the opportunity to become quiet and notice the the power you have inside of you to accomplish your fitness goals.
Meditation gives you the opportunity to become quiet and notice the the power you have inside of you to accomplish your fitness goals.

Your Subconscious Mind

One of the reasons why we succeed or fail is because of our subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind ( some people refer to “it” as the unconscious mind) is the part of you that stores your memories and beliefs. It controls all of our autonomic functions, including our heart beating and breathing. This is also the part of a person to which hypnotists communicates when guiding their clients into a relaxed hypnotic state. One of the traits of this aspect of the human mind is that it is highly suggestible and impressionable. You'll learn a powerful technique shortly that will give you the ability to access this deep part of yourself and re-program it to help you achieve your fitness goals.

Accept Your Body As It Is Right Now

The key to making any changes is to first become aware that there is a necessity for this change. As such, the road to lasting physical fitness and better vitality is paved with self-acceptance. This simply means that you accept your current level of fitness not as something that needs to be changed, but simply as it is. While you may not be able to do 10 minutes of burpees straight (nor do you have to unless you're training for some kind of burpee world championship), you know that there are activities that your body allows you to do relatively easily. By bringing these activities to mind, you not only engage in a simple accept of acceptance; you also tap into your natural ability to express gratitude. When we experience gratitude, a whole slew of positive hormonal changes are triggered with us.

Your Body Is A Work Of Art In The Making

Our bodies are changing every moment of everyday; you're at least half an inch or shorter in the evening than you were in the morning for the simple fact that as you engage in the activities of your day, gravity constantly pulls on your joints, compressing them to a degree. Your spine is not immune to this force and it too becomes compressed, causing you to shrink. Your face changes in response to your emotional reactions, consciously and unconsciously. The most obvious change we experience is the aging process.
Scientific research has proven that we literally have a new body about every 7 years. On a smaller scale, your liver is constantly regenerating itself. What's even more fascinating is that research has proven that our thoughts and attitudes actually shape our bodies, partly by shaping our actions. So how does all of this information help you experience the body you truly desire? Simple: instead of thinking of your body as a static thing that is only destined to end up as a pile of dust, think instead of your body as a fluid wonderful creation that has a near limitless capacity to change and grow and realize that you have the ability to control the shape of that growth by adopting the proper beliefs.
One effective way to install new positive beliefs into your mind and body is to use affirmations. Affirmations are statements one speaks that they wish to become true. On a deeper level, affirmations are ideals that a person stores in their subconscious minds in order to use it as a reference point to deal with the daily demands of reality.
A simple affirmation such as “I am flexible and adapt to all circumstances happily” is a great belief to create and install in your mind and body. Having a belief such as this upon which to rely will help you to focus on the positive aspects of your body-changing program.

Know The Body You Want To Experience

A wise man once said that “if you can conceive it, you can achieve it…”, and no one could have been more correct. In order for you to quickly materialize the body you desire, you must begin by creating this body in your mind. Fear not because this is easier than you think; in fact, we engage in this process of creation on minute-by-minute basis. Anytime you've decided what you're having for dinner, planned a movie night with friends, or paid a decided to reach out to long lost friends, you've formulated a plan and taken action on it; the act of designing your new body is exactly the same, only with some minor differences in the execution.
In order to begin the process of communicating with your subconscious mind in order to create your future body, the best way to do so is to write down exactly what type of body and vitality you wish to manifest. The trick to doing so effectively is to write these details down in the present tense, AS IF they are already fact. In a sense, they are already there; they are simply waiting for you to “meet” them. This approach is necessary because of the way in which the subconscious mind processes time, namely thinking that all things that you want are happening in the present. By speaking to your subconscious mind in a language that it understands, it will pay attention to you and help you achieve what you wish.

Live In Your Future Body

By taking advantage of mental rehearsal, you can “try on” your new body and fitness level before you experience in reality. Muhammed Ali was know to engage in mental rehearsal before many of his fights and he would often “prophesy” how exactly he was going to defeat his opponents, many of these prophecies materializing much to the surprise of his fans.

Mentally rehearsing actions before you actually perform them is a form of self-hypnosis. We all mentally rehearse meetings and conversations before we actually encounter the situation but this is mostly done unconsciously. The simple process you're about to learn can be done anytime you can find a little privacy. The best times to perform this technique is in the morning just after waking up as you're laying in bed or as you're laying in bed at night preparing to fall asleep. It's during these two times that our minds are most impressionable. Proceed so follows:

1. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to relax your mind and body a bit deeper.
2. In this relaxed state, bring to mind your perfect body. Imagine yourself as already living life with this body you want. It helps if you can imagine a specific date in the future, such as summertime.
3. As you pretend that you're experiencing a particular day with your new body, fully bathe in the emotional energy generated by this practice. As you go shopping in your mind in your new body, notice how easily you move and how easily you can carry the groceries to your car. Experience this moment with all of your senses.
4. Spend only as much time in this future state as it feels good to do so. The subconscious mind gets bored easily and when you extend mental rehearsal longer than it feels good to do so, you start to lose the attention of your hidden self and consequently it becomes harder to reprogram yourself.

Believe it or not, this practice will only require a few minutes of your morning or night. As you engage in mental rehearsal, you will let a sense as to how often you should practice. Some people find that practicing once a day is effective to reprogram their inner minds while others find that it works more powerfully when they perform the mental rehearsal technique several times a day.

Dream And Plan

While mental rehearsal is a powerful technique to have in your manifestation toolbox, you'll need to take action to put all the ideas and enthusiasm you're experiencing to good use. Break your mission down into small chunks of strategies that you can easily handle. There are many templates that you can use in order to rocket towards success. One of the most popular and effective templates is the S.M.A.R.T. Template. The letters represent the following aspects of the method:

S. = Specific – Who? What? When? Where? Why? These are important questions to ask yourself in order to gain clarity and insight into your goal. Knowing what you want is only half the battle; knowing where you want it, why you do, and when you want it is another aspect. You'll use the following parameters to get very specific so that you have a clear at which you can aim all of your energy.

M. = Measurable – How will you know when you've attained the level of fitness and the physique you desire? This is important because if you don't have a measurement of success for your goal, you may stop just before you attain it or could even expend undue energy reaching for something that you may already have achieved.

A. = Achievable – This is a tricky area to navigate. it's good to set goals that activate your inner adventurer and cause you to grow and stretch spiritually and physically in the process of achieving it; however, it's also a good idea to pick a goal that is just slightly our of reach, meaning that you only have to stretch yourself just a teeny bit more to actualize it.
In the context of body-shaping, losing 1-2 pounds per week is a safe guideline to follow.

R = Realistic – Setting a realistic goal is important because unrealistic goals can evoke a feeling of frustration and ultimately disappointment when they aren't reached. Losing 4 pounds in 30 days is realistic while losing 10 pounds a week is not.

T. = Timed – This is perhaps this most important aspect of the goals setting process because it takes your ephemeral idea from the concept stage to the materialization phases. When you attach a reasonable time frame to your goal, you add a level of intensity that you normally don’t experience were you to not add this crucial component.

Adding More Power To The Goal Setting Method

One simple way to boost the effectiveness of the s.m.a.r.t. method is to come up with as many reasons as possible to reach your goal. Reasons are like tiny batteries of emotional energy, energy that you can tap into and direct toward the achievement of your desire. The more reasons you have to accomplish goals, the less likely you are to not strive toward them.

Losing Pounds Does Not Mean Gaining Energy

It's easy to believe that the more weight a person can drop, the better they will feel and move. While there are individuals who would experience greater energy and mobility by losing excess weight, this is not necessarily the case with everyone. Each one of us is a unique biological ecosystem into his own and we all have a weight set point, a certain pound range within which we experience the highest possible level of vitality; when a person attempts to go beyond that range, they experience a roadblock in the form of their metabolism rebounding wildly in order to ensure that the body maintains that healthy range.

In order to get the best results from your body-changing program, it is best to focus on how you will be feeling and moving when you reach your desired level of fitness. The numbers on the scale are actually not as important as the level of vitality you experience.

The body of your dreams starts in your mind. Before you can materialize, you have to conceptualize it. Once this is done, it's just a matter of being consistent and staying focused on your reasons for success.

Make Sure To Have Fun!

However you decide to set out upon your journey, make sure that you have fun along the way. It sounds crazy, but your subconscious mind loves to have fun and it learns new skills much quicker in high-energy and exciting environments. Choose a playlist of energizing music, turn your fitness journey into a game and you'll reach your goals much faster.
