Aging – Looking Younger, while Growing Older

Updated on February 6, 2011

Goldie Hawn - 64

We all want to grow old without looking old, don’t we? Well, most people do.

10 Quick Tips

Good sense of Humour – They say “laughter is good medicine for the heart”. Laughing keeps you young. Make an observation of people who are bitter about life and hardly smile – they always look much older than their age.

A little exercise – Something as simple as walking, Gardening, Swimming. Exercises that don’t strain the body.

Moisturise – Even the men are getting in on this. Moisturising the face and body with a good Moisturiser.

Jackie Chan - 55

Change of Routine – don’t do the same thing everyday. Bring variety to your life. Stimulate yourself, otherwise you’d get bored and then worn out. Have you noticed how sometimes when you are bored you get tired, but the minute you find something interesting to do – you are suddenly bubbling with energy.

Eat healthy – include organic fruit and vegetable in your diet. Oils which are rich in Vitamin E also help to give supple joints.

Samuel L Jackson - 61

A new hobby. Take up a new hobby or just enjoy the ones you have for now. Writing, Swimming, gardening, fishing, dancing – maybe Salsa classes?

A Makeover. Consider a Makeover. How many years have you had that hairstyle? Are you still wearing the same clothes you’ve had for some years?

Pamper yourself. Do this often. Simple things like a Manicure/pedicure, facial and other beauty treatments.

Jane Fonda - 72

Green Tea – The Chinese drink a lot of Green Tea, which has Flavunoids. Have you ever seen a Chinese person who looked their age? They always look younger than their age. Well, this is one of the secrets.

Get Fruity - Make masks, lotions and creams out of Fruits by blending them. These have lots of Benefits.

      Hi Suzette

I love the way you put it. Perfectly.

It's how we feel and I have noticed a lot of people who smile and laugh a lot (with warm personalities) tend to look younger than their ages.

      Glad you stopped by.

Age is mostly attitude. If you are young at heart you will come across as young and feel young. Yes, mosturize, mosturize, mosturize. But, beauty is only skin deep. True beauty comes from within.

Lol Suni, I think you look lovely the way you are. Men tend to look better the older they get. The lovely Bollywood Actor Amitabh is proof of that. :)

      Best Wishes.

Nice tips. Of course laughing is just great - if someone has laughter lines on their face - no matter what the age, they will look great in my opinion.

Lady_E, I love your outlook on life. It's seems simple when you read it - especially as it is so well written.

I'm a firm believer in laughter, a little exercise for the body (just a little mind you), and lots of exercise for the mind.

But I especially liked your suggestion that we pamper ourselves - often. I'm off to do just that! Thanks for giving me an excuse!

Aaaah Bless you. I wondered why I hadn't heard from you for a while. Sorry to hear you've been in hospital. Hope you are much better now. You must be on a lot of liquid and soups til your throat is soothed.

Nice to hear from you. May God keep you strong and provide the rent. I look forward to reading your Hub but take your time. Make sure you get plenty of rest.

      Luv, Elena.

Hi My friend, Missed checking in with you. I went to Hospital 5 days. Obstruction in intestine. Surgery was an option, but I said no. A Tube went down the throat, very painful. The obstruction disappeared. Praise the Lord. It was the 'Great Physician that healed me. No doubt.

I re-wrote 'Holy Spirit' It is Much better, check it out for me OK. Please pray for me. Rent is short again. I know he will 'provide.' His 'children' never have to beg bread. (James) Do you need prayer? You are a darlin friend.

My next hub is on fine hair and hair loss. I LOVE your hub, very nice. I enjoy info like this. You will get lots of readers.Technology is so advanced wrinkles will be a choice for the must part. lol.

Thought for the day. Rise n Shine The Day Awaits YOUR Presence. You are a light in a fallen world. Hugs [:

Cheers June and Fastfreta. Always nice to read from you both. I agree June, Money can make you look good too but a youthful state of mind is also healthier.

Fastfreta, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I personally, don't like to do "same old, same old" thing every time. E.g I do different things for lunch - sometimes "window shopping", sometimes lunch in a park, sometimes lunch with friends in the staff canteen, sometimes even work for half a day and have lunch at home.... Regards, E.

Thanks Nancy. Very interesting comments. Volunteering at something is really nice. It keeps one occupied and energetic. Also, gives one a nice feeling as they know they are doing something really good. Wish I added that to the Hub.... lol. Lovely to hear from you. :)

Excellent article and the two important items you mentioned for looking good and staying young are a sense of humor, and developing a new hobby. Take classes, be a volunteer, spend time with your grandchildren and travel. The women and men of today have two key elements on their side, good health care and great plastic surgeons! LOL…

    • Lady_E profile image

Elena 8 years ago from London, UK

I know loveofknight, but I believe people can look younger without plastic surgery - besides after a few years the plastic surgery falls to bits anyway. Those who have their faces stretched back, tend to look weird a couple of years down the line.... :)

Deborrah, always a pleasure to read from you. Blessings to you too. :)

Andromida, I agree with you - I love to laugh a lot. Even when I teach, the students learn with lots of laughter and no one ever believes how old I am. :)

Thanks Dohn, so you are naturally a happy, easy-going person. It's a lovely attitude to life. :)

Thanks Pete, actually you do have a point. Money can make you look super young as you can hire chef's, trainers etc. Some of these celebs fly their Chefs with them when they travel. I've also tried not to put pics of anyone whose had surgery - to the best of my knowledge. lol.

Thanks Philipo - I've noticed people in Africa don't tend to look their age. My Dad doesn't look his age at all.

Ladyeagle - "you the lady". Your cool too. Thanks for stopping. :)

I find that people who don't look their age (in a good way) tend to be happy and energetic. Your hub backs up that allegation! I've been told many times that I don't look my age either and am sometimes embarrassed by it in a good-natured way. Thanks, Lady_E! Great hub.

I agree with all of those ideas but the people in the pictures have the best looks that money can buy. For those people health comes in the form of personal trainers, chefs, and doctors, and maybe a nip and a tuck here and there.
