Aloe vera is the most popular plant used in hair products. It has dominated the hair industry for many ages. This is no coincidence. It is found to be a natural hair rejuvenator. Aloe vera for hair treatment is added to numerous products in order to soothe the scalp and leave the hair with a lustrous shine.
The aloe vera gel also has the ability to strengthen hair follicles that have been previously damaged by hair products or lack of care. It contains all the necessary nutrients that are needed to replenish strands of hair. Aloe vera is used for numerous hair treatments, some of which we will examine below.
Aloe Vera Plant for Hair Growth

One of the reasons that hair growth is retarded is due to the production of too much sebum at the root of the hair. The sebum then mixes with dirt and blocks up the root of the hair impeding the growth process. Aloe vera helps to remove the excess sebum and prevents the sebaceous gland from producing too much sebum.

Scientific Evidence of Aloe Vera
Sometimes there is a non-threatening bacterial or fungal infection that affects the scalp. This can be the main reason why so much sebum is produced. The aloe vera gel from the plant possesses very strong antibacterial and antiseptic properties which neutralizes the affected area. Hence, leading to accelerated hair growth. Aloe vera plant for hair growth is the best option compared to other hair growth options.
Aloe and Hair Loss
Aloe and hair loss prevention is a very well debated topic. There are even claims of aloe leading to hair rejuvenation. If the hair loss is caused by bacterial and fungal infections, it is a very good idea to treat your hair with 100% organic aloe vera gel. They are many people who can testify that the aloe vera plant did help them to realize hair regrowth in areas that they were previously bald.
If the hair loss is due to genetic disposition, then it is very unlikely that the use of aloe vera can result in regrowth of hair. However, it is a known fact that the aloe vera gel will help to slow the progression of hair loss. This is because the gel from the aloe plant will provide the nutrients that are needed to support the structural integrity of the hair follicle as long as possible.
Aloe Vera and Dandruff
Dandruff is caused by a mild fungal infection that causes the excessive build up and flaking of dead skin cells. Therefore, most medical treatments for dandruff will contain aloe vera because of its ant-fungal properties. The aloe plant is often used with Eucalyptus and tea tree oil as a natural remedy for dandruff.
How to Apply Aloe Vera on Hair
In order to obtain the medicinal benefits of aloe vera, it is best to massage the gel unto the scalp for several minutes. This should be done after washing your hair with a mild aloe vera shampoo.
I personally use the plant directly. To use the plant directly, remove the thick skin and jagged edges then blend the pulp into a slimy gel. If there is no access to the plant, then it is okay to use 100% organic aloe vera gel.
After applying the aloe gel to your hair let it stay in for several more minutes. You can then rinse with luke warm water for another couple of minutes. Do not use any other hair products after this application. Apply the gel three times a week for a month until progress is evident. (If not, consult dermatologist)
Some dermatologists recommend using aloe vera oil instead of the gel to better treat dandruff.
