Alternative Healing

I am an artist, designer, photographer and writer. See more of my work on cmariearts.

I've always been interested in alternative medicine and forms of healing.

I loved the aspects of spirituality and nature in alternative medicine and healing. As I got older blocked energy in my body really became a problem. I started feeling weighed down emotionally and physically from all of the blocked energy in my body. This blocked energy can lead to disease and other health problems. Stress is blocked energy so is any negative energy that is built up from traumatic events in your life. If you do not let those emotions and energy become released. They get stuck.

I was looking for different ways to help me live a better life. Then I found meditation. I was dealing with a lot of stress from school and life and my friend suggested it and bought me a CD and a book on it. At first it was difficult for me to quiet my mind and for the process to actually work. Eventually after some practice I started become good at at it and started loving it. Another friend of mine showed me breathwork which is like meditation as it uses breath to take you into a different state of mind. You use a fast pace breathing exercise of breathing in quickly and out. In the process you are releasing a lot of emotional stress and anxiety and and other blockages in your body. Different people experience different outcomes during this exercise. Some start crying, some feel great joy, others have physical symptoms of pains going away or tightness going away. It all depends on what state your body is in and how deep you go into the exercise.

I started yoga about ten years ago. I loved the peace that came to my mind when I did the poses and the release I felt. I felt like I was becoming one with my body and felt like the restlessness in me was quieted down. The point of yoga and any of these are to release blocked energy that is stuck in your body and to becoming more in tune with your body and soul. I then started learning about the different forms of yoga. Some of the more popular ones are hatha, bikram, vinyasa, tantra, kundalini, power, and hot yoga. Kundalini is supposedly one of the best forms giving you the fastest benefits of yoga. The kundalini is the energy that runs up through the chakras up from the spine. It is known as the life force and creative energy.

Recently, I also went to see my friend who is an acupuncturist. I went because I always wanted to try it and I wanted to see if it works. I was going through a lot of stress from work. I needed to release those feelings. The acupuncture always made me feel good after. She put needles in my hands, feet, face, head, legs, and arms. It really didn't hurt. A few did hurt a little at first. She said this was because of the blocked energy that was stuck and it needed to flow through. I always felt sharper, happier, and more at peace afterwards.

Now I've found reiki and have decided to study it along with yoga instruction and teaching. It is an interesting art form and healing practice. I've heard about it a lot for the past year and was really interested in learning more. Reiki is a form of healing using energy through your hands. You're body being a channel to take energy from the universe through your body and onto the person you are healing. If you rub your hands together and hold them a few inches apart you will feel a heat, coldness, or pull. That is the ki or energy. In reiki you hold your hands a few inches above the areas of the person that you are healing usually above all of the chakras. The chakras are places of swirling energy from the base of the spine up to your head. Each one has a different color and rules different aspects of who we are as human beings.

Some people don't believe in these forms of healing and practice. Maybe they aren't sensitive enough to energy or very spiritual. Whatever your beliefs are, it is always really interesting to learn. I will be writing more on chakras, reiki, and yoga in upcoming articles.

Hi Stessily, I always love your comments. They are so engaging. I agree with you that you have to be ready for meditation in order for it to work well for you and that they enhance your natural talents and abilities. I have found that I am growing in ways I never knew I would before doing them. Thank you for your wonderful comments as always. :)

carolinemd21, Meditation makes such a difference for those who are ready for it. Sitting still and stilling the mind are empowering, refreshing, regenerating. Starting the day and ending it with meditation enhance the healing which naturally occurs in humans.

Your life is flowing energetically towards full expression of your natural abilities. Meditation, yoga, and reiki are complementary and thus build reciprocally on refining our intrinsic, internal treasures --- treasures which are often trampled in the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Thank you for sharing your inspiration.

I totally believe in alternative therapies. i have been using them most of my life and have not been to a medical doctor in more years than I can remember. Even when I had my herniated disc I used all alternative therapies and remedies. Of course as I am passionate about it I became a practitioner of Holistic Health. Good Hub voted up :)

Thanks for the interesting hub. All kinds of methods like yoga, meditation, reiki and even acupuncture are great alternatives to drugging up one's body. My husband is missing his calling. He has studied the art of reiki and discovered that he had a lot of healing energies within himself but has done nothing to take this a step further however I benefit. One time I had a bad pain in my knee he heldhis hands on my foot down by my ankle and was able to lift up my leg. It stayed in the air and he gave streams of heat into my knee. No pain. He has done this with a bad migraine like headache for me etc. Wonderful to have such a healing person around me.

yeah, Caroline...i do believe you...there are people who can heal through the touch of their hand...but there's a healer in each of us if we'll just open our minds...

Caroline, I love to meditate. I started after seeing Tina Turner's life story. I believe in alternative medicine. Taking drugs only covers over the problems many times. Thank you for sharing..

I'm impressed, Caroline, not that you are learning new things (well, that too) but that you have taken it upon yourself to heal yourself. Attitude of the mind, I believe, is the most powerful of our life forces.

I have used meditation before. I heard about reiku being used on a dog that was in a lot of pain and was dying. The dog got well. I saw the video and it really happened. The woman who did it was trained. I have never tried it myself.

I notice that you have reached 200 followers. Congratulations.

Cheryl thank you for reading. Meditation can be tough because our minds work so fast it's hard to quiet them down sometimes. Maybe listening to some comforting music can help you relax more while meditating. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. :)

Hi Robwrite I'm also losing faith in doctors pushing antibiotics and other drugs to heal everything. Some don't even seem that compassionate to the patients and just want the money they feel they are entitled to.I'm glad you stopped by. Thank you for reading and your comment!

Hi Caroline; Very interesting stuff. I've been interested in alternative forms of healing for about a decade now, because I'm losing faith in the way traditional Western doctors push antibiotics.

I'm eager to read more of your hubs on alternative healing,

      Rob
