Wild Lettuce

Wild lettuce is also called opium lettuce, bitter lettuce, green endive, and lettuce opium. Lactuca virosa (Latin name), commonly called wild lettuce or opium lettuce, is a plant with mild psychoactive effects. Wild lettuce can be found growing freely in various regions of the world including Australia, America, Southern Europe and India.

It is said that it causes an effect similar to opium but much milder and without any of the side effects. Some use it and it has no effects which may explain why it is completely legal. It is said that induces a hypnotic state marked by strange dreams.

But if you are familiar with the placebo effect you know that different people are affected to different extents by suggestion. First I will start with something that is said by webmd.com. Their articles are looked over by MDs. They say:

Wild lettuce is a plant. The leaves, sap (latex), and seed are used to make medicine.

Wild lettuce is used for whooping cough, asthma, urinary tract problems, cough, trouble sleeping (insomnia), restlessness, excitability in children, painful menstrual periods, excessive sex drive in women (nymphomania), muscular or joint pains, poor circulation, swollen genitals in men (priapism), and as an opium substitute in cough preparations.

The seed oil is used for “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis) and as a substitute for wheat germ oil.

Wild lettuce has calming, relaxing, and pain relieving effects.

Some say it is effective for calming restlessness and reducing anxiety, especially in teenagers. It may help restless legs syndrome. It helps with sleep and insomnia. It has powerful sedative properties. You can combine wild lettuce with valerian, another sedating herb to enhance its tranquilizing properties.

It has a diuretic effect. When it comes to a diuretic effect from fruits and vegetables, the effect comes from consuming more potassium and less sodium and so the body can release some of the salt or sodium it is holding. In fact the only foods that have salt in them are processed foods because man adds salt to them. Salt and sodium are not the same thing. I say this because people talk about them as if they are the same. There is sodium and there is salt that is sodium chloride.

Arthritis

Wild lettuce can also help with arthritis or any type of muscle or joint pain. a good thing to do is to drink wild lettuce tea before going to sleep. Then it can help your muscles and joints while helping you to sleep better. Note that you buy this at amazon to try it out. Different varieties and different places that it is grown have different effects on you.

You can also watch videos about this herb and learn what it looks like and what to watch out for to get the best quality plant. Have fun but be very careful in finding plants to ingest.

Asthma and Coughs

It is very good for the throat and also things that can cause you to get coughs and asthma. It helps to loosen and expel phlegm from the respiratory tract.

Heal Migraine Headaches

They do not know what cause migraine headaches. This woman that I knew would get migraine headaches. Later it was found that she had a brain tumor. They removed it from her and she still got migraine headaches. So apparently the brain tumors were not causing the headaches.

But I can see where anxiety would have an effect on migraine headaches and how it would also affect one's health in general and one's quality of life. Anxiety is one of the things that wild lettuce helps to reduce. Sleep and insomnia is something that this herb helps with and they can affect migraine headaches, your immune system and how long you live. Also sleep has a great effect on whether you get dementia or not. People tend to not think about this but when you are sleeping, you are also fasting.
