Amy Winehouse Found Dead - My Tribute

Updated on September 7, 2011

I was shocked to hear the news that today, 23rd July 2011, Miss Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home. The cause of death as yet is unknown. I saw her perform live several years ago and was spellbound by her singing. She was 27 years old, which seems such a waste of one of the most talented singers that Britain has ever produced.

Amy was famed for her beehive hair-do, revealing clothes, and her many tattoos, but first and foremost she was a very successful and talented singer. Her debut album "Frank" was released in 2003, and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. In 2006, she released her second album entitled "Back to Black" which won her five Grammy Awards and made her into the top female soul artist of her time. Her style of music was very varied and included R&B, soul and jazz. On Valentines Day 2007 she won a Brit Award for best British Female Artist.

Amy had a huge list of hits, most of which were about drugs, sadness, loss and failure. Some of her most famous songs are:

Back to Black

Tears dry on their own

Love is a losing game

Just friends

I told you I was trouble

Stronger than me

You know I'm no good

Amy's Personal Life

Sadly Amy had become known for her mental health problems, along with her drug and alcohol abuse. In Miami on 18th May 2007, Amy married Blake Fielder-Civil, but their marriage was very rocky and abusive. She was reported in the press as having an eating disorder around this time because of the obvious weight loss. Blake was imprisoned from 21st July 2008 until 25th February 2009 for assaulting a pub landlord and trying to pervert the course of justice. During this time, Amy struggled with drink and drugs and became very depressed. Her worried father made an appeal to her fans not to buy her music, this was in an attempt to try to shock her from taking any more drugs. After his release from prison, he filed for divorce and this was finalised on 28th August 2009. Amy's life has been troubled and traumatic and at times very lonely. She was reported to have checked-in at the world famous Priory Clinic in May of this year, but stayed only a week.

On 18th June 2011, Amy was in Belgrade performing live and was drunk and disorientated on stage. She forgot the lyrics to her songs and could not remember where she was. It became apparent that she was not in a fit state to continue touring, and cancelled the rest of her tours.

My tribute

You were troubled, but now are at peace.

You can rest and will never hurt again.

For a while you lost your way, but can see clearly now.

No one really knew your pain, but now it has gone.

Let Him wrap you in his arms and take you into Heaven.

You will be sadly missed, but never forgotton.

Sleep peacefully in the knowledge that we'll smile when we think of you.

Amy's life was tragically cut short, and I hope than she is remembered for her music and achievements, and not for the demons that haunted her. Unfortunately she was a victim of her own circumstances which has left the world a poorer place without her.

Hi Jackie, I know what you mean. I really don't see the big attraction in trying drugs, especially when you see what it has done to so many celebrities. It's so sad that so many talented and promising artists have died in this way. Thanks for reading.

I wrote a poem just a couple weeks or so ago about so many in Fame (just being famous)who end up dead and they never learn looking at the ones before them, so hard to believe and I just can't see the draw alcohol and drugs have on them when they have so much talent and love.

      Very nice tribute.

Hi .josh, there were quite a few to get through while I was at work! Done now though. I will check your hub out in a mo. I saw the comment on Amy Winehouse in the questions section, and left a message of my own. lol.

Well done on the responses - those were a lot to get to!

It really is very sad - I have a post of my own on the topic, though focused more on responding to all the negativity that's been circulating since Winehouse passed away. Appears there might be some lively debate in the comments section... :)

@ rajiv - it is true, so many people hit the big time and cannot seem to get out of the devastating downward spiral of drugs and alcohol.

@ kikkibabes - she was so talented. Makes you wonder if she didn't have her life cut short, how well she would have done. She had plans for a 3rd album and some live tours lined up.

@ Nell Rose - Hi Nell. I, too was shocked when the newsflash came on tv, but it wasn't a total surprise, especially the way her last tour in Belgrade ended. She was so troubled bless her.

@ jenniferbenson - Yes, she was very talented and I think she could have been brilliant if she could have just got off the drugs and drink. It's happened to so many talented singers. Seems such a waste of a life at 27.

@ Phil Plasma - What you say is very true. Her songs were all about depression, dying and drugs. It makes you think that without the lifestyle she led, there may not have been the success.

@ .josh - Thanks for reading and commenting. No matter how low a point we reach in our lives, theres always a solution. Poor Amy. So talented and so young, she could have had so many successful years ahead of her.

@ Movie Master - Thanks for reading my hub. I loved her voice and the lyrics were so close to the life she led. Sad news indeed.

@ Les Trois Chenes - Thanks so much for your comment. Such a shame she didn't realise just how her life could have turned out. Sad news.

You bring together her career so nicely. I didn't know much about her before but always admired her style and music. Such a shame.

Well done, a very nice tribute. It really is such a tragedy - she had more raw talent than any other musician of her generation, and who knows what she could achieved if she could have overcome her addiction. Being about three months younger than her, I just can't imagine what kind of place someone would have to be in to do that to themselves.

And certainly, Phil has a good point - it can't be a coincidence that the most talented artists are so often troubled by depression and addiction. Very sad, indeed.

I heard an analyst on the radio saying that it is the greatest artists that often walk a fine line of drugs, alcohol and depression and amazing performances. It could very well be the demons Amy had that made her so resonating and talented. A sad loss, for sure.

Poor girl, she was a talented singer. I got to see her once in London and she struggled remembering lyrics to her songs. Thats the problem these days. Young talented folks are not living long enough to finish their job on earth. May she rest in peace.

Hi, I saw this on the feed and nearly dropped in shock! then I scrambled with the TV remote! wow! mind you, I can't say that I am surprised, it seems that these days young people get fame so quickly they don't know what to do with all the money and panic, what a shame though she had such a brilliant voice, cheers nell

It's very unfortunate that people cannot control their temperament when they rise high in life. This leads to drugs and death.
