Gastrointestinal disorders refers to the disease involving gastrointestinal tract,namely esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and some accessory organs.By the term accessory organs we mean the organs that helps in the following process( in this case digestion ) but is not the part of it( E.g; Digestive tract ).So in this case bile and liver are the accessory organs that helps in digestion but are not the part of the digestive tract.So today we will discuss about Gastroenteritis.
Gastroenteritis commonly called as Stomach Flu.It is a very common condition that causes Diarrhea and vomiting usually caused by bacterial and viral bug.It is most common in young children.The virus that causes gastroenteritis in children is rota-virus.Let's talk about rota virus.Rota virus is a genus of double stranded RNA virus.Nearly every child in the world is infected by rota virus at least once by the age of five. Noro virus are the cause in adults. Noro virus is one of the most common stomach bug in UK.It is also called the "winter vomiting bug" because it is more common in winters.
Causes of Gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis is caused by viruses(rota virus, noro virus)
Due to bacteria such as Campylobacter Bacteria
Due to parasites for example; Entameoba hystolytica etc
Other than these bacterial toxins, chemicals and certain medications.
Symptoms of Gastroenteritis
.Sudden, watery diarrhea
.Loss of appetite
symptoms appears up to day after becoming infected.They last less than a week or sometimes longer.
.The best treatment is to stay at home and rest.
.Keep yourselves hydrated.
.Take paracetamol for any fever or aches.
.If you feel like eating, try small amount of plain foods such as soups, rice etc.
.Take anti vomiting medication(by the consult of your doctor).
.Medical advice is required in severe conditions like persistent dizziness, bloody diarrhea, fever exceeding over 38 degrees, abdominal cramps etc.
