Are you scared of applying braces to your teeth?
Smiles are a big part of our personality, how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us. A beautiful smile gives you confidence to interact socially. People with healthy teeth are treated better in social situations than those with crooked and pale colored teeth. Moreover, half crooked and unclean teeth leave a negative first impression.
Cleanliness is directly proportional to the extent of crookedness of teeth. The more uneven and crooked the teeth are, the more unclean they tend to become because the brush cannot reach every inch and corner of your teeth. So even if you keep brushing for an hour or so, you wont get the appropriate results.
This is my own story. I lived with such unclean and cooked teeth for almost 10 years. No matter how much brushing i did, the teeth never looked good. Moreover they were crooked, which never allowed me to laugh openly in front of friends or others. I always had this tension in the back of my mind that somebody will notice my teeth. The biggest threat was standing in front of the camera. I hated to get my pics clicked. I used to hide or run away at such occasions. But i couldn't help it because i was so scared of getting my teeth aligned.
Usually people like me are reluctant to get their teeth aligned because of the horror of the pain that it will produce. This is obvious after hearing the painful stories of the traditional method of teeth alignment using typical metal braces. But sooner i made up my mind to visit a doctor and she easily convinced me for the treatment. I asked her few questions and she could suffice me with nice answers:
Q1: Is the treatment painful?
A1: What can be more painful than not able to laugh publicly and hiding yourself from the camera. Moreover there are chances of getting rejected by the guy who comes to you for marriage proposal ;) But trust me, this treatment won't be much painful as we use local anesthesia while teeth extraction(if ever required). And wire tightening and other processes are also not that painful.
Q2: How long the treatment will last?
A2: Normally the duration depends on the extent of crookedness of teeth. But it wont take more than 1.5 years even if your case is worst. ( I must tell you that my case was really worst and it demanded extraction of four teeth). So for any normal treatment the duration is not more than 8-9 months which is quite reasonable.
Q3: The steel braces looks so bad as if the teeth are locked up in a prison :) I will be scared to see myself in the mirror.
A3: She replied politely , no my dear. The technology is much advanced now. I will apply ceramic braces similar to the color of your teeth. By looking from a distance, nobody will even recognize that you are wearing braces. Moreover you also wont feel uneasy after wearing them.
Q4: Will i have to stay away from my favorite food items? I have heard that in this treatment we are only allowed to eat rice, porridge and other soft stuff only.
A4: The biggest privilege is that you get to eat lots of ice cream throughout the treatment. And about your query, i will allow you to eat everything that you can mange to eat. If you face problem in eating anything then you must avoid that otherwise you are free to eat anything. Just try to reduce intake of very sweet products like chocolates and sweets. But that also is not a big problem. All you need to do is to properly brush your teeth every time you eat such stuff.
Q5: Is this treatment very costly? I mean will i need to pay you on my every visit till my treatment is complete?
A5: Well, the treatment is not very cheap but is affordable. And you needn't keep on paying me on every visit. Everything related to your treatment is included in your fees only. I will arrange everything for you. What all you need to do is to come on the assigned dates.
So after all the satisfactory answers, i asked her a single question, and the question was:
When are you starting my treatment? :)
I must say, that was one decision which changed my life. After only a few weeks, my teeth started coming in line and my confidence started building up. All you need to do during your treatment is to brush up your teeth properly at least 2 times a day.
A nice smile is not only beautiful, but promotes good health too:
- Straight and evenly spaced teeth are easier to keep clean, resulting in better oral health.
- Properly aligned teeth chew more efficiently, which may help digestion.
- Aligned teeth create a better bite, which may reduce stress, headaches, and strain on your supporting bone and tissue.
Its been 4 years now since my treatment and now i am no more scared of facing the camera or laughing publicly. Moreover, i often get compliments for my smile.
You must be having so many questions in your mind regarding the treatment. I haven't covered everything here otherwise you would have slept while reading this. But, i am sure i will be able to suffice all your queries (if any).
